Massive underwater canyon carved by ancient course of the Santa Ana River when sea level was much lower funnels SSE hurricane swells straight onto Newport Point. A few miles away, much smaller or even flat. A natural wonder.
This wave is something else when it’s on, I’ve scored it only a few times but I did get down there for the hurricane Marie swell thank god, it was gnarly
@BradJacobson, you're the man ❣️ I appreciate you brother. This vlog is probably some of your best work. The soundtrack was on point. I like the tune for the closeouts. Which artist was that? Lastly, can you film the Booger's too? I bet this swell was Disneyland for the bodyboarder's ? Awesome session ❣️🏄🌴🔥🎯
At 15:48 and 16:07 (both are the end of the wave where the guy falls, not the start of the wave, bear this in mind please) are 2 waves where he nearly almost made it.
@@Surfdronesd Oh yeah, no doubt. Just meant to say it's not unusual for SD to miss a summer swell that hits OC, this due the way CA coastline is shaped. And during the winter it's the other way around, SD pumps and OC is lucky to get enough of west in a swell for its breaks to start working, otherwise to much WNW and it hits OC beaches sideways.
Ocean beach jetties down in San Diego were firing early morning Friday. Like people were catching some crazy ass waves that looked picturesque with the barrels that were forming.
Great clips brad. It would be cool to see the beach sand relative to the surf break. Im always curious how far out the break is. If its more or less a beach break or its out quite a bit. I like to understand the paddle out and and how deep the water is where it might be breaking. gives me some perspective.
We caught none of this up here in Morro Bay, but it was a nice shape at 4ft. No big sharks today, like the last two sessions. I gotta say it was a good day
I used to surf free Zuma pretty often. That had a tendency to get big and immediately close out so my friend and I developed this straight down the face, get in front of the foam, yaaaahooo style. (If you could call it a style). 😂 But it was fun. Just plain fun. Some dude asked why we don’t try to shoot the barrel more. I said what barrel? This is Zuma. But please, don’t let us stop you from being you. 😂 No wetsuits either. I guess we had higher internal temperatures lol
There used to be a huge left peak and a smaller right near the pier. The affluent have dredged the harbor. There is no third point peak at Malibu any more too.
Just the lucky angle/ swell window other areas just nothing 2 or 3 spots similar. Newport is one Swami's maybe 2 & near north Carlsbad where the beach curves maybe 3rd

it was soo short period and slamming right on the sandbar. you had to hope you rode out cause if you got caught inside you were getting a beatdown. Broke my leash before I got a barrel and left with my tail between my legs hehe
@@Hibbard1986 Miss those days! Recently went to Clearwater Florida and at the beach, there were very few zero bodyfat girls. Disgusting! Also, the Gulf of Mexico water was very salty!
What the heck? I see one person out not wearing a wetsuit. Its summer! When I was a kid surfing during the summer here in Orange County it was taboo wearing a wetsuit past June. Wearing a wetsuit during the summer was like kissing your sister. I think it as mid 80s when I saw one guy (I knew) out in a full wetsuit. It was at Trestles. It was nearly bizarro seeing some guy middle of summer on a blistering hot day putting on a full wetsuit. True the water in California doesn’t get so warm, but water temps past 67F? Cmon. True I use a vest or spring suit in the summers. But I still skin-it occasionally. Cool vid tho. Been since the 90s I’ve been out at Newport Point. Thanks
Wetsuits are for the wind add boyancy and protection from the dangers of big surf. Keep current my man. Plus people's body temperature are lower now due to general inactivity.
@@ReeveMcNall I was seeing these videos and thinking they were old. Nothing here. Nothing in the surf report. I remember a long time ago reading in a surf magazine about Shaun Tomson in Socal. No action at the Wedge? Maybe the jetty disrupted the swell coming from a southerly direction?

Excellent - if this is the wedge, we were just on the other side of the Jetty there on Friday in our boat cruising along in good semi calm seas 😅
Definitely not the wedge. The wedge has, well a giant wedge because the swell rebounds off the jetty.
