Java: Some say Swords, some say Axes

So is java. Most of java players uses 1.8 to get rid of combat cooldown. You can the pro PvP players. Combat is combat
Patrick led Clicking is not everything you can easily beat someone even if they have a higher clicking speed. Seems like one of the most common excuses yet you can probably beat more than 95% of players with a lower clicking speed. I hate these excuses

Y u Do This? But the clicking speed is only half of the battle. If you just stand there, clicking, not hitting any of you clicks, while the other is strafing, you will lose instantaneously
Dave Arias I also hate it. People don’t even bother looking at why they lost and just blame it on the cps. Most of these people would lose even if they had an autoclicker because they don’t know how to pvp.
I like axe because I can go from chopping trees to ending someone's whole career.

Btw the wooden axe literally does the same attack damage as a diamond sword
Also the netherite axe does a whole 10 points of damage without sharpness 5

Edit: On bedrock, the strongest weapon you can get in survival is a multishot crossbow with harming 2 arrows. Fire this at close range and you can one shot a full netherite.

Axes lose 2 points of durability when attacking instead of 1. This means they will only last half as long as a sword when used as a weapon.
Yeah but it does practically twice the amount of damage early on and is superb vs shields which swords cant do anything about, just get a iron or diamond axe, at least iron is very abundant so you can have a dedicated tree axe and a combat axe

@@comradejojo8412 Technically but like i stated in another reply, if you read the combat test 5 update you will see that weapons and tools will get reworked in many different aspects, ranging from damage, swing speed, reach and even enchantments, minecraft.gamepedia.com/Java_Edition_Combat_Tests read here and you will be surprised just how buffed axes will get.

Axe with efficiency has a chance to disable shields for a good amount of time, axes also break armor faster if I remember correctly
Yup, but with the new combat the efficiency thing doesn't work now and there is a seperate enchantment for it called chopping

@Dead Archer the axe does a lot less damage in bedrock and also breaks a lot faster in bedrock I think. Tough they are extremely powerfull in java.
What? Efficiency doesn’t affect axes disabling shields. Axes always disable shields, as long as the opponent is holding up their shield.
The summary:(in bedrock)
Swords are better for PvP
Axes are good for killing passive mobs and breaking armour
In java:
Axes can 'break' a shield block so its better.
Swords are good for better enchants.
nah axes are better. My friend and i did a test with iron gear and shield and i was using axe while he was using sword. i won 9 out of 10
Axes can cooldown a shield, so if your pvp opponent has a shield, an axe is your only option.
Si So you only use axe and your friend only use sword without switching? That would make whoever has a better skillset win no matter what.

Hope dual wielding is fully implemented so we can tactically use both but I guess scrolling works fine aswell so.

in 1.16, ive bound F to switch between my main and offhand, when I PVP I duel wield a sword and an axe, my first strike is a crit with the axe and then I switch off the sword immediately to inflict knockback and flame. Its kinda how I counter the shield spam and people get terrified of duel wielders its kinda funny

Use both axe and sword at same time for PVP. Axe for initial hit / chases, then instantly switch to sword after that for easier better combos

Hello. Here are some calculations for the diamond axe and diamond sword. I hope this is helpful.
*Without Critical Hit*
Axe
1) 1 attack speed Damage: 9
2) 2 attack speed Damage: 18
3) 3 attack speed Damage: 27
Sword
1) 1.6 attack speed Damage: 7
2) 3.2 attack speed Damage: 14
3) 4.8 attack speed Damage: 21
Conclusion: The sword would be better when it comes to speed but the axe would be stronger if your opponent will be constantly backing up or running away. It also deals 6 more damage than the sword. Besides that, they have the same amount of hits to kill a player.
*With Critical Hit*
Axe
1) 1 attack speed Damage: 13
2) 2 attack speed Damage: 26
Sword
1) 1.6 attack speed Damage: 10
2) 3.2 attack speed Damage: 20
Conclusion: This is the same as the first.
Swords are better for rushing and axe are better for attacking. Simple!

Who else is frustrated that a wooden axe does the same amount of damage as a DIAMOND SWORD, and a stone axe (which is so easy to make) does MORE damage than a diamond sword, this is just very confusing.
But axes have slower recharge time than swords, so it kinda balances it out
Also don't forget a wooden axe will break very quickly. It breaks even quicker fighting than chopping wood, because it's programmed as a tool, and not a weapon, so it wastes double the durability with each attack.
Do not worry, swords still have a use, sweep attacks, dps, and enchants
They break twice as fast as a sword and are slower

Just use both, go for a crit hit with the axe then swap to the sword for the rest of the duel. And switch back to the axe to disable your opponents shield which should give you enough time to go for another crit or pull out your sword

“Knock back’s good against large groups of mobs”. If you’ve ever been against tons of skeletons at once you would know how annoying this enchantment can be 😂.
That’s why I do Knockback 1; that way it DOES Knockback, but not a lot.

Both are good in their own way a good idea is just to have both then use the axe for a hard crit and to disable the shield and then use the sword while the axe is cooling down so you win cuz you have a deadly duo combo boom just saved you time

ahh My favorite thing about this video is that he did choose a winner because both weapons have their own strengths and weaknesses, so Mojang did a FANTASTIC Job balancing these weapons! Personally Im more used to the attack speed of the sword because im so used to it that I dont need to look at the attack indicator I just know when to attack and I can do it perfectly every time, but axes im not so used to. But both weapons are Good!
Sword because you have fire aspect and the attack speed is faster so if you fo the math it does more damage per second, but always keep an axe to break Shields

edit: I think I'm gonna stop making swords and axes, I only play single player, as I'm not good at PvP in the first place, so I'm probably just gonna make the axe.
Use knockback 2 + enchanted trident, in PvE.
Axes take 2 durability to hit.
Currently, you lose Looting from Axes and Fortune from Swords, so you still need to have both in PvE. But it has been rumored that all Enchantment restrictions will be lifted, and you will freely be able to apply all weapon Enchantments to both Swords and Axes alike. If implemented, that will make the only differences between the two being Base Damage, Weapon Speed and Material Cost.
Looting in off hand doesn't work.
But what about shield and axe? If you are protecting with a shield and your enemy hits you with an axe, your shield has a weakness. Am I right?
on java tbh axes are better for when you started because you can use it for multiple purposes and also attack and you don't have to spend resources making a sword, thought when you are op, enchantments with axes aren't that good so when you are at endgame, swords are better

Bedrock? Swords are better for bedrock edition. A sharpness 5 diamond or netherite sword can 1 hit crit
Diamond Axe with Smite enchantment works great in the Nether taking out Zombie Pigman with a single blow.

I like switching between the two when fighting
While I usually play bedrock where swords do more damage (thus are definitively superior in combat) I always use an axe because overall it’s just more useful. I do plan to get back into Java though so this is helpful.

personally i play java and i use a sweeping edge 3 and smite 5 and knockback 2 on my diamond sword along with sharpness 5 on my diamond axe. Works perfectly for me

Wait you forgot somting that the axe have. And it is when you atack a player with a sword who have a shild your damage is block but with an axe it have a 25% chace to disable the shild for 5 second.

I’ve been playing this cool version that plays Java on Quest 2, and I’ve been finding swords nice for moments when I get surrounded by several enemies. The faster attack speed makes it a lot easier to keep them all at bay.

In my survival world, (bedrock), I'm obsessed with makin my diamond sword as strong as powerful. It currently has sharpness 3 and knockback 2. I don't care about looting, or mending, just damage. Any tips?
In one of the snapshots a while back, not sure if it got reverted, but axes won’t be able to get sharp anymore, but they disable shields longer

looting it to more easily get trident and wither skeleton skull and to get multiple items if successful Killing mobs doesn't lead to damage
When pvping with a player use axe in the first hit then sword to reload faster, but if u ran away after doing a hit use axe again so when you turn around you can jumpscare your enemy and crit with an axe then come back to sword when they shield themself.

If you are in early game you should use the axe because it is multi use. But later in the game you should use sword I think.

1)The sweep attack from swords that hits multiple enemies
2) Axes disable shields
3) The axe uses 2x durability as a weapon

One other advantage of the axe is that higher damage per hit makes it more efficient against armor.
