    Integra upgrades and differences from US Civic
    I traded my Civic Si (2020) for a 2024 6-speed Integra. Below are the differences between the 2024 Integra 6-speed and the Civic Si that helped sway my decision. As you can see below, there are way more differences (at least 50) than are spoken of in any TH-cam videos. Hope this helps those of you trying figure out the differences. BTW, as a former Si driver, I have ZERO regrets. The Integra retains the fun-factor of my Si, but also gives me all the premium upgrades I was missing-such a great real-world daily driver.

    The Integra is more in line with the Civic Touring I think, and if you look at the market prices for those, they're relatively the same price as what dealers are asking for the Integra. I don't think it's fair to say it's so much more expensive than the Civic, when the Civics are so marked up it's not even worth it to get one.

    Tedward, you mentioned the base Camry from the 90's. That 1990-94 generation Camry was a beige creation that was at every mall and community college. A decent number of those old Camrys are still going. Granted that 30 year old cars will have wear and tear that is combated by regular maintenance. But mechanically speaking, the beige base 1992 Camry will never die. Toyota made them "too well."

      I drive a 1999 Toyota corolla VE also known as "Value Edition" . it has a 1.8L 4cyl mated to a 5 speed manual transmission. yes a 90s corolla with a manual trans. 0-60 in 6 seconds with 310,000 miles on the odometer. yes that's right 310k miles and still runs like a top. yes as mr. tedward mentioned, I do have to use a key to lock and unlock the doors. I do have to reach across to unlock and lock other doors, as well as roll up and down crank windows. The only way to open the trunk is with a key, no latch on the inside to open it. the wipers have 3 speeds low med and high, the list goes on. That thing has been my daily for 5 years now and has given me no issues over the 130k miles I've put on it so far. bought it 2nd hand from an older gentleman who bought it new for 9k in July of 1999. he handed me a folder of all the maintenance that was ever done to the car. it was all fluid changes with the exception of all 4 new wheel bearings not long before I bought it. I bought the car for 700 bucks because the clutch was starting to fade. got home after a 3 hour drive and swapped a new clutch kit in, a new rear main seal while I'm there and she was ready to be back on the road 3 days later. I keep adding to that vanilla folder as the previous owner did. however I do my own work so its just notebook paper with logs of what I've done.(all fluid changes, air filters, tires and a clutch job.)

    Great review! I think the "not a fast car" depends on what you are coming from. You regularly drive 3-400 HP cars so your perspective MAY differ from someone looking to upgrade from a 5 speed Manual 2009 Civic with 230K miles and 140 HP. I've driven it for 13 years. I'm looking for manual Trans, improved performance. I was considering the Si but being late in middle age might appreciate the adaptive dampers. :-) I'm considering the BMW 228 as a stretch purchase. I want LTD or AWD. I bought the 86 Integra liftback new- with its amazing 113 HP! The 90 I bought had 130 but was NOT as fun to drive. Looks like this IS fun to drive and more comfortable for long drives! Not enough power? Got me looking at VW alternatives-but they are rated much lower in reliability. So back to the Integra-OR a 2020 Si? BTW: I saw the Topher's night drive video in his new Type R. NIIIICE. I'd love to drive one-but I don't ever expect to push such a beast to its limits!
    I AM hung up on 6 second Zero to 60 though. I guess there's tuning, putting in a beefier clutch etc.

While I am tempted by the nicer and apparently quieter Acura interior and the adjustable suspension, I'll stick with our Si. Those advantages and the heads up display are nice, but they aren't enough to justify the Integra's higher price, given that our Si has virtually all of the other features you mention as potentially justifying the cost difference vis a vis the US model (e.g.fog lights, parking sensors, turn signals in the mirrors, fully digital instrument display, shift lights, rain sensing wipers, auto-dimming lights, auto-dimming mirror, remote garage door opener and remote home security buttons on the mirror, sunglasses holder, dual zone climate control, heated front AND rear seats, heated steering wheel, navigation system, wireless connectivity and charging for cell phones in the front, two USB jacks for those in the back seats, and a spare tire with jack).

    Nothing wrong with a fancier Civic Si, people! The MSRP gap is really wide, but in reality, a non-marked up Si is hard to come by, and if you can get an Integra for MSRP, the extras might feel like more of a good deal when you're talking a $3-4K gap (as opposed to, say, $9K). Of course, your mileage may vary -- maybe you're one of the lucky ones who has a line on an Si without a dealer markup. ;)
    For better or for worse, if a Canadian-spec Si were available to us, we might be having a much different conversation -- heated seats, wireless charging, shift lights, full digital display would all be available, and suddenly, an Integra doesn't seem to offer a ton more (at least on paper). Sadly though, that's not the case for U.S. buyers. Ultimately, I think you gotta figure out what is or isn't important to you, and what you can get a reasonable deal on, and go from there. Both seem like pretty fantastic cars to me.

      It's just like the current generation WRX: not much wrong with it, but nothing particularly spectacular to my eyes either (but hey, at least the WRX has AWD). When you consider that this price segment is already highly competitive and there are plenty of other options out there that have better offerings (in my opinion), it's a legitimate concern to have for the future of this lineup in terms of sales. Add to the fact that Honda/Acura is pretty much self-cannibalizing either way when the Si already exists. I wouldn't deter anyone from getting this car though if they can get one and want one; it doesn't seem like a bad car overall.

    Great review.
    As someone who owns a civic hatch sport touring I’d say that is the car to compare to the technology integra if I’m completely honest. The tech in both cars is very similar, integra has an advantage with the dampers, a usb c (which no one mentions), hud, and more seat adjustments.
    The interior in my opinion is nicer in the Honda, I feel like the vents in the Acura were a shortcut to make it different from the Honda, just doesn’t look right to me how it’s broken up. Also the leather seats on the Honda don’t hold as much heat on hot days as the leather/micro suede combo which is notorious for being hot, and personally I think the Honda seats look better overall.
    The question you have to ask yourself, is the integra a spec technology worth the extra money compared to the civic ST? I may be biased but I don’t think those extras justify the price. I paid 34k for my civic after taxes with a few minor accessories added (all season mats, cargo tray, cargo net, seat back protector, and protection film). I’d imagine the top of the line integra is close to if not 40k.
    Another factor is gas. Everyone has different needs but better mpgs on the civic and regular gasoline vs premium for the integra. With gas prices now, who would want to jump into a premium fuel car right now? I sold my WRX because personally, it was too much.
    It really boils down to what you value, the Honda is an excellent value for the money, the integra is a head turner beauty of a car, the Honda is a little more reserved but still nice looking compared to competitors in the segment. Based on looks alone I’d place it third in the affordable hatch category behind the Mazda 3 hatch and integra. But again it’s all personal preference. Can’t go wrong with either car honestly and if you can afford the top of the line integra go for it, it’s just not the better value in my opinion.

      How has the Civic HB ST been treating you? I have a deposit down for a 2023 manual due at the end of February (currently leasing a 2020 Civic Sport HB manual). I'm pretty much set on the Civic but couldn't help peeking over at the Integra A-SPEC and just saw a used 2023 one in my area for a used one with under 100 miles with a price comparable to a new Civic - perhaps I shouldn't compared new to used though....
      In any case, wondering how you experience has been with the Civic. One thing I see people talking about as a difference is the better noise dampening of the Integra, which is to be expected. How is the sound dampening in your Civic? I feel I don't mind my current Civic's road noise too much and probably will just tune out the new one's road noise as well, but still wondering how the new one performs.
      Also, how has the overall fit and finish been with the Civic - any issues?

    • @fdurdenc
      @fdurdenc ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@ThunderShoe I’ve loved every minute of it so far. With now 7k on the odometer I haven’t had any problems with the car. It has enough power and great mpgs, I’ve been averaging 34 city 38-40 hwy. There’s never been a situation where I said to myself “I wish this thing had more pickup” and I drive in congested areas of southern NY where traffic and merging can be a nightmare. My routine service has been a breeze at the dealership too, something I can’t say about the Subaru dealership I used to go to.
      As far as road noise is concerned, I came from a 2012 WRX, so the civic is a huge improvement. From what I’ve read in articles and on forums, it seems the new civic is a little quieter than last gens, but I cannot confirm. What could help is new tires in the future. The continentals that come with the car aren’t the smoothest riding tires, so once you get your mileage out of them I would do some research for quieter tires on tire rack or something.
      As far as fit and finish, I haven’t had any major issues. Most of them are nitpicks if anything. The most concerning of them was the drivers door wasn’t flush by like half a centimeter with the rear drivers. I fixed it by adjusting the door catch (two phillips head screws) and now it’s perfect. There are a few moldings on the bottom of the windows that don’t line up perfectly, and some uneven hood gap along the front bumper, and panel gap along the sides of the hood, but again, it’s more nitpicks than anything. The hood gap I was able to fix by adjusting (turning) the the rubber stoppers along the engine bay. There have been no issues inside the car, a few creaks and squeaks near the infotainment display, but they have stopped with what I assume to be a break-in period, everything seems to have settled and expanded where I don’t hear anything anymore.
      All in all the car has been amazing. Don’t let my nitpicks deter you from your purchase. I’m anal and go looking for issues, I’m sure 98% of people wouldn’t even notice those things. There are times I wish I would have gotten a manual, but with a new baby and my wife with no experience driving standard in the event she has to drive, I went with the cvt. Still great, but the manual will probably be an even better experience for you.
      If you’re still undecided, this video pretty much sealed the deal for me!

      @@fdurdenc I super appreciate your insights and the experiences you've shared - I'll stick with the Civic! I drive in eastern MA and the traffic patterns I typically encounter seem similar to those you experience. I also have a similar situation with a baby on the way and a wife with no manual transmission driving experience. Actually, she has no driving experience, but we are planning for her to learn beggining in the next year or so. She's willing to take a shot at learning to drive stick, but whether or not that works out, we'll probably look to add a second car that's an auto/CVT. I'm thinking of the new Civic as potentially the last manual I'll have for a long long time. Makes me sad that they're becoming so rare, especially in the more affordable segment of the car market.
      One more somewhat subjective question: Do you happen to have a spoiler/wing and/or window visors on your Civic? If so, what's your experience with them been like? Re: the spoiler, I like the look of the HPD version but not sure my wife would appreciate going that aggressive, so I'm considering an aftermarket one that's more subtle. As for the visors, I like the look but am also wondering whether they are worth the investment.

      I didn’t opt for the HPD package, personally I didn’t like the style or placement of the wing, the molded in lip on the hatch lid is sporty enough imo. Also, the front lip is just two gloss black covers that go over the bottom corners of the bumper, it’s not a true lip. These covers also cover the paint under the fog light housing which makes the bumper look sloppy to me.
      I don’t have window visors either, the only thing I did to the car in that respect is a chrome delete overlay on the chrome trim above the windows. The purposely made it so the car has to shift to 3rd in a 0 to 60 killing it to 7 second when its really is a low 6 second car. This also hurts it in the 1/4 mile. Remember the new Si and Integra now have vtec for exhaust that 2017 to 2020 1.5t models didn't have except in the Accord causing moisture to build up in the oil. Now with a simple hondata stock tune you can add only 4 hp but 28 lbs of torque making this a 260 hp and 280 lbs of torque at the crank car. The Si can't make the same hp or especially torque anything over 250lbs at the crank with stock clutch. So something different with the Integra just people only see the basic info Honda supplied. If you watch a review on the Canadian Si, it is annoying what got left off the US model. I'd be curious to know if that was an intentional marketing ploy to further separate the Si from the Integra, or due to the chip shortage. (Would be interesting to see if there is a Canadian version of the Integra, and if/how it differs.) Good review. Looks like a lot of extras packed onto the Integra, but not sure it is $ 8k worth. I faced that decision to a lesser degree when I bought my /17 BRZ - Limited vs Premium. I was able to option the dimming mirrors and home link (garage door opener in my rearview mirror), and you can do that on either. However the Performance Pack that year was only available on the Limited. I happened to find one with Performance Pack (a bargain - wider wheels, Brembo brakes, Sachs dampers for $ 1200). Probably the biggest difference for daily use is Limited has push button start and the entry system where you can leave the key in your pocket. With the current car shortage and dealer mark-ups, I'm happy to not be in the market right now, but enjoy following current offerings. I wonder how hard it would be for folks to buy a Si in Canada? It's only a half day drive from where I live, and I see Tedward is in New England.

      Definitely not the chip shortage as the loaded and more heavily produced Civic Touring lost zero features and came with only a very modest price increase. Si lost a lot of features and gained a 2000+ price increase. Hard to understand.

    “Luxury” branded civic that not only does not have heated rear seats but doesn’t even have rear seat a.c. vents. CHEAP! One seat pocket. This integra does not come off like an entry level “luxury” car. You said it correctly, premium civic. That’s all it is. Not a bad car, obviously, but not enough of a difference to make one pony up the extra balloons. Subjective, of course.

    The passenger mirror goes down because it is selected on the driver door. If you put the switch in the middle it won't go down. At least, that's how it worked on my 2019 Ridgeline. Not sure if that will work on the Si, though.

    I went to buy a civic si 4 months ago and they said the wait was about 8 months and after everything it was like 35k….. so misleading from the 27k lol might as well just get the integra unless the markups have gone down since then

    I just bought a ‘24 Si - I thoroughly researched both cars, test drove both cars and the integra doesn’t come close to offering a good value proposition for the extra $8-10k.
    People say the integra is just a civic with slightly nicer features…bc it’s true.
    The ONLY objective advantage the integra has over the Si is that it comes with a hatchback.
    The Bose sound system isn’t as good as the ELS system in the integra, but it’s not that big of a deal, especially for the price premium.
    The Si feels straight up better from a driving experience, somehow to me the integra feels very large when driving and the steering is lighter and not nearly as connected as the Si.
    The “luxury” features in the integra just aren’t anywhere near worth an extra $8-10k. In fact the Si has better seats since they’re both cloth anyway, just with some lame faux leather inserts which actually makes it look cheaper.
    Dealer markups are pretty much a thing of the past now in spring / summer ‘24, interesting the Acura dealer was indicated much more willingness to discount the car - the dealership offered $1500 off MSRP, and Acura themselves added another $1000 discount - but even at a $6-7k price premium over the Si I still couldn’t see the justification. The Si is just an overall better car for its purpose. If you’re going to pay nearly $40k for a car how can you possibly justify a 1.5L Turbo making 200HP??? With cloth seats, the same civic platform, just slightly better sound system (marginally better) heated seats (only in front!) a heads up display which mainly only shows MPH, wireless charging (who cares) and auto dimming rear view mirror. Heated seats are probably the only thing people really care about and would pay for.
    Also - the fact that the Acura dealerships are discounting the integra, tells you everything you need to know, they aren’t selling.

    So just like the Si we get features in Canada that it looks like are not available in the states. We get rear heated seats on the manual top trim integra as well as heated steering wheel(unless the button just wasnt visible in this video)

    The more I look at the Integra, the more I like the styling. The initial reveal soured it for me but it fits with the rest of the current lineup while having some fun elements like the rear hatch. I wonder what a modern Integra coupe would look like.

    All I can say is the SI is a kids car at a lower price and the integra is a adult car for those that can afford a little more luxury and I believe looks way better than the si. I still love the 10th Gen si and sold it because I wanted a more powerful 2.0 turbo but with the world the way it is I'll take the fuel economy right now and an upgraded Acura compared to the honda

    Great video as you always do! I am in search of a daily car, 4-door, manual, with better interior (NVH) and softer suspension (i.e., adaptive damper) compare to my '21 WRX. Doesn't have to be AWD, and that comes to '23 Acura Integra or MK8 GTI-autobahn around 38 - 40k price range. Could you please comment on the NVH and suspension stiff/soft difference between the Integra and the GTI? Or even make a video to compare these two. I think they are, as hot hatches, pretty comparable in terms of daily driving.

    I would really like to have been a fly on the wall at Acura when the decision to go with a CVT was made. "Well ladies and gentlemen, it's time to decide on which transmission to fit to our glorious ressurection of the legendary Integra" *engineer speaks up* "sir we have our dual clutch that was used in the previous ILX and other models available, or our excellent corporate 10 speed conventional auto, its going to be tough to deci.." *chairman cuts him off* "So CVT it is then! any objections?" *crickets*🙈🙈

    • @bossplayerunit4563
      @bossplayerunit4563 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      a dual clutch doesnt exist for the 1.5L engine and it would have been too costly to develop one

    • @jbm0866
      @jbm0866 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@bossplayerunit4563 If only Honda was a large car company with engineers who could adapt their own transmissions to work with their own engines. There is nothing magical about a DCT, it is essentially a manual transmission with 2 computer controlled clutches. But ok, lets say the DCT would be too costly to adapt to the 1.5 for reasons of it not being strong enough for the torque a turbo engine makes (or whatever), what about the 10 speed auto used by the Accord (and other Acura products) with the 2.0 turbo making more hp/tq than the 1.5t of the Integra?

    The canadian Si also gets an LCD display just like the integra! Not the hybrid analog/digital one from the american one! Other than the leather interior, hatchback, there really isn't much to drive canadians to buy the integra over the Si
