    I got a plastic tub/bucket, the type that 1Kg feta comes in. Cut a rectangle piece out of the bottom of that, and drilled some holes in it. Works great!
    It's Polypropylene (PP), and heat resistant.

    Thanks for the idea! I just used the lids off of sour cream or what ever containers I empty with flat lids! Then use a paper punch to punch holes :D Cost $0.00

    thank you!!! replacement basket for our dishwasher would be $40 and it's otherwise in good condition minus some of those larger holes on the bottom. This is perfect!

    I bought the same cutting boards but decided they were too nice to chop up. The Joseph Joseph boards are now on food prep deployment. Instead, I went to the local hardware store and got some aluminum window screen material (bulk off the roll and at no charge- I didn’t need very much.) I cut a couple of pieces (easy to cut with scissors) and fit and placed them in the bottom of the basket over the damaged grids. So far so good. No food particles caught in the screen, but I’ll keep an eye on that. It was important to use aluminum material to tolerate the heat of the dishwasher washing and especially drying temperatures. Again, so far so good and so inexpensive.

      I used plastic canvas and it melted. I happen to have an extra window screen, cut it in place. Hopefully that'll solve the problem.

    Pretty good idea but drill the holes bigger to allow more water from the washing arm to come up and adequately clean the utensils. They don't really get cleaned from the side.

    This is a good idea; however, my problem is that the tableware and utensils fall through the sides due to my drainer being a very nice commercial stainless steel brand. Any ideas?

    I used pieces of welded stainless steel mesh, cut from an air brick cover that I bought on Ebay. I cut the pieces about an inch bigger than required and bent the edges upwards to make small baskets. We tried solid pieces of plastic with the previous dishwasher, but they would sometimes tip up into the holes underneath. Because of the upstand on the wire baskets, they don’t do that.

      Can you provide a link to where you found it on eBay for people that are looking for it?

    • @markk9731
      @markk9731 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@bundysgarage Certainly. It's on Ebay UK, but basically it's just a piece of welded stainless steel wire mesh:
      www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rodent-Rat-Mouse-Air-Brick-Cover-Stainless-Steel-Welded-Wire-Mesh-A4-Size/273795863698
      It has to be the welded type as the woven mesh will just fall apart. A sheet that size was enough to repair a basket with eight compartments. I paid a similar amount for a replacement basket, but it was just a cheap copy and within a few months that one had started failing as well. The mesh has been in there about three years now and it should outlive the dishwasher.

    • @markk9731
      @markk9731 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@frankterbeek6287 Yes, it should work as long it's not a woven mesh. Next time I do one, I was thinking I'd cannibalize a wire mesh bird feeder. There should be enough mesh in one to fix a basket and they're available for less than the cost of a new piece from Ebay.

    I used cross-stitch plastic canvas, so it already had holes. 99 cents at your local craft store.

      @@bethgork7332 I'm glad you replied! I couldn't remember where I'd left my comment after mine too melted after a few cycles. So sorry! I replaced it with mesh used to keep leaves out of roof gutters. I figured if it could withstand summer sun and heat it would work. It's been a few months now and it's fine. No signs of melt at all.

    Sounds like a good idea. But heat is the eneny of plastic. And one trip through a was cycle and the heated silverware melted the plastic. Fail.

    • @bundysgarage
      @bundysgarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The plastic used for the cutting board is NOT like a plastic bad. Had over 100 wash cycles with it in place, the silverware never melted and plastic.
