My first ever gig at Swansea uni, and I ended up sitting on the speakers on stage because I was so small I getting crushed down the front. The drummer gave me his drumsticks! Brilliant
It got to number 21 in February 1985,so a lot of people did buy it in an era when you needed to shift a substantial amount of copies to have a major hit.
@@rjjcms1 Exactly right. It is a great song and I remember Peter Powell of Radio 1 backing it. He was a genuine music fan. Met him outside the Hop Poles in Hammersmith in 1994 and stupidly asked him if he had a piece of paper to sign his autograph on. Not surprisingly he did not but he was nice about talking to an idiot!

I've been looking for this one in ages! =D Thanks for uploading it! I've had it on my parent's old cassettes with rare 80's stuff but couldnt find anything by lyrics. So, you're a life saver! o.o
Saw them at Hammersmith Palais in the mid 80's - good band, thought Julie had a great voice. I heard she ended up working in a supermarket up in North London - is that true? :-(
Came here out of 80s nostalgia having not heard this song since then, just realised that she might well have been in some of my classes at junior school; I remember her bob of dark hair,a bit longer back then,if I'm right and the girl I remember isn't a namesake (I think not). She used to walk a similar route there to me,down part of a lane-like street called Lady's Close. Looked at her LinkedIn,etc. profile and she produced some solo music in 2013.
I used to drink in The Laurie Arms next door to the Palais in the early/ mid nineties. Both are no longer there now- the pub followed the closure of the Palais after a few years. Julie Hadwen made an album about ten years ago which was well received by the critics who reviewed it. I cannot fathom why her vocal talent was allowed to go to waste in the eighties and nineties as she should have gone on to much greater success. Such a shame.
The affable, astute Monday to Thursday night time DJ from Capital Radio? I listened to his show often around 1985-86,mostly music that was current-ish but also including a weekly phone-in,sometimes on a more serious topic but mostly lighter stuff. Some callers made good points and had amusing things to say but there were some right fools too.
@@rjjcms1 So I'm not the only one who remembers Dicken? He played this a lot when it came out, and his 1am - 4am shows were a good mix of music. Really miss it. I tried listening to Capital recently and...oh dear. :-(
@@bobrew461 Yes. I haven't heard Capital much since the 90s really, largely because I moved a bit further out from the London catchment area twice towards the end of that decade. I dread to think what it's like now with the autotune pop pap of now.
Anyone still listening to this in 2025??
I was 16 when this came out. Still love the song too this day.

The fact that somebody dislikes this makes me profoundly ashamed of the human race.
SeventiesMania give me their name and they will rue the day!
