Great band! Amazing singer by the late great Ray Gillen. No one came close to his vocal skill. Jake and the rest of the band were incredible. saw them in New York City at the Ritz in 1991. There are vids on youtube from that show. RIP Ray Gillen.
Thanks for spotlighting these guys. All incredible musicians. Just fyi, the photo you showed of Jeff Martin is the JM of The Tea Party, not JM of Racer-X/Badlands.
Great retro review John! I've known about Badlands for some time now, what interested me about them is the fact Jake E. Lee is the guitarist in the band, and I love his playing! He's such an underrated guitarist. I definitely need to check them out. Sad how they fizzled out in the end, but I know Jake went on to make more music after Badlands. I'll give them a listen though! 😊🤘🏻
In 2010, Sanctuary Records released a two-disc, deluxe version of Black Sabbath's Eternal idol with disc two being the tracks with Ray's original vocals.
Hi J.C : - a fellow appreciator of this short-lived but **truly awesome** band in the U.K here..... Good effort on the upload, it caught my eye in the right hand "recommendations" column while I had We Are The Road Crew blasting out. My P.C is connected to a monster Hi-Fi.... Like yourself, good memories of seeing them live, albeit only once : - in around late '91 or maybe even '92? (a lot of good hash going round then in England - not good for a pinpoint memory!), at a smallish rock nightclub called Maximes in Wigan, a working class town in N.W England. The Best Bit ?? (although me and my half dozen mates had gone specifically to see 'em) = None or at least most of the fellow rockers in attendance had just gone there for a Saturday night hang out, and, had ANY idea who they were..... I'll never forget it : - They just came on and absolutely slayed!. It was truly truly special to be standing about 10-12 feet away from Jake E Lee - it was a small stage, shredding with class like he did (and, probably still does?). Within about 2 songs, the rest of the crowd/patrons realised that there was a brilliant band on stage - and, finally filled the floor. My "crew" used to go on stoner weekends away in the British countryside camping, and, Voodoo Highway was regularly in one of our car cassette players...... Many-a-time we'd drain the car battery completely and have to "bump-start" our cars to keep on moving - And, cranking it out of course. (!). The VERY good 'ol days of being young + free, and, not really giving a toss about anything else other than living a "rock + roll" existence. Ohh To Be Young Again??!!. Cheers Buddy, Nick - Preston, England.
Hi John!!! Yes, to me Badlands was an awesome band and their debut and second album are two cool records..... with a tragic history and the main (legal) issue, the impediment to reissue the first and second album. cheers and be well
I think this was Jakes best band. Voodoo Highway is a great hard rock blues album. Hate the way everything turned out, sucks that those 2 albums aren't on spotify.
I believe Ray was originally going to be the singer for Blue Murder (John Sykes' band), but apparently sounded too close to David Coverdale. Had so bad luck, to say the least.
Not forgotten with me, I listen weekly.
That's awesome
Awesome band. Badlands is legendary and those who know, know.
Yes a great band and one of the best bands with a two album run

That's cool I was looking for videos of the Poughkeepsie show I was at but I couldn't find them
That first album is flawless.
Yeah it's a great album

Okay thanks for the correction sometimes it's hard finding images of these people
I was lucky enough to see them touring for Voodoo Highway at Baltimore's legendary Hammerjacks back in the day. It was a memorable night. What a show!
Yeah, they are a great live band.
NEVER FORGOTTEN !!!!
Definitely not
I saw Eric Singer three times with Kiss. On the last two times, Eric played piano and sang on "Beth".
I saw Kiss once in 1990 so I think Eric Carr was still in the band.

Yes, Jake E Lee has a band called Red Dragon Cartel. They are still active I believe and they have 2 albums.
@jcrockandmetalreviews Ahh yeah, that's right! Pretty cool name for a band. Nice that's cool, I need to check them out too! Cheers 😁🤘🏻

That's awesome I never knew that I'll have to look out for it.

Cool story. I remember when I saw the band the venue was not very big so we had a good view of the stage.
I’m a big badlands fan and especially Jake I own the first 2 on vinyl and love them. 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻 nice review
Thanks
Jake E. Lee! Badlands was a good band! I dig them! I haven't forgotten about them. Nice video, John! Cheers! 🤘🏼🍻
Thanks. I know they were awesome
Jakes last record Red Dragon Cartel - Patina is excellent. Like modern classic rock. It’s perfect.
That's cool I don't think I've ever heard it
Their second album, Voodoo Highway is a masterpiece.
Yes that's a really good one

Yeah, I used to listen to this band all the time.
Badlands was awesome. Discovered them on the Voodoo Highway album. Great video. Awesome you got to see them live 🤘Sharon Osbourne is a POS.
Yeah, I was lucky to see them as my first concert.
There is a lot more history. Especially as to Ray Gillan and the fact that their albums are never in print!!!! Can you talk about that please
I'll look into it for a possible follow up
I think this was Jakes best band. Voodoo Highway is a great hard rock blues album. Hate the way everything turned out, sucks that those 2 albums aren't on spotify.
Yeah, they were both great albums. You can find them on TH-cam but the audio quality is not great.

Yes, that is true. That was another good band from back then.
I loved this album. Loved Jake E Lee too.
Yes, it was such a great album.
