I always wondered that... So surveyors are still out there using these things!? First time I'd ever seen one was when a surveyor was tearing through our thicket down here in SETX. In the 80's, it blew my mind and my dad instantly said, *"NOPE!"* Dirt bikes, yep... I assume he imagined that maintenance in the design and kids! Heck, he could tell from the way I watched certain things in an instant and without me saying a word, he would spontaneously say, *"NOPE!"* Dozers, chainsaws, and everything in-between... Chainsaw for a 6 year old, I was an enterprising young boy! I'd love to have had your job, but from what I recall in the 80's... It's not always easy as it looks!
I have seen alot of Argo videos, but had not asked - how much fuel it consumes in hour (normal driving on road and offroad)? Thank You already before for shining light on this question. :)
They are not that bad on fuel. I own a 90s model and read in the manual that they can last up to 8 hours with the throttle wide open on a full tank. Obviously you would never run it wide open constantly like that for that long. Different engines would vary though.
Looks like the weakest point of these things is the low centre of gravity. Multiple videos of those getting high centered in the wet snow. The tracks need to be longer with a second row of wheels underneath the existing ones to bring the vehicle higher off the ground.
They look like they can get high centred easily but it is actually very rare because of there design. And the newer ones such as the one in this video have an even better design to prevent this. Now at the end of the day snow can be snow and depending on the conditions it can be tricky for anything.

the number one failure with these machines is lack of ground clearance. They really need to find a way to put bigger tires on them or something. I think they need to find a way to raise the gunwale but still keep the vehicles accesable. The design is just not keeping up with the times.
You are forgetting with the bush tracks ground clearance is not an issue, the machine floats on mud and the tracks will keep it moving in the softest mud, the bush tracks will swim(slowly) In mud or water,it's very difficult to stick one of these machines with tracks , and I can tell you they walk through holes that will stick EVERY THING With WHEELS
beaver dam tracks are heavy, require huge wheel spacers, and use thin low grade plastic, thin rubber, and metal hinges that wear out. HD Alaska Bush Tracks all the way with Double Hinge (for half track mode), swim paddles, and ice cleats. Same spacing requirements as the flat factory tracks and extra performance where factory flat tracks fail.

We already had full blown Spring with temps as hig as 25°c,but now again rain and barely 10 celsius. SMH

Take that junk factory track (hard on bearings and chains) and put the Alaska bush tracks back on and your Argo will glide through that same hole
