I have an audiophile vinyl disk called" The Essential Gene Krupa" with what is arguably the greatest studio version of this classic. It brings tears when I play it.
Heard this on the radio in the 80's with Benny's intro of the girl group. Great concert, and a "rare" opportunity to hear a gal group of my generation sing the song. Wish this were on disc.
I think this is a brilliant version of this number. As a drummer i think John Markam does an amazing job of the solo . Not as animated as Gene was but technically perfect. I also like the scat . Clever way of filling the brass section.
Jazz is something you feel , Everyone experiences it differently because of their hearing, I play piano, but not the same as any other person, If there was perfect pitch then everyone would sound the same, Without the pauses in music it would sound like one long tone ,so what we pay attention to are the pauses in the middle of the tone, this is also scientific
Benny Goodman was severe to the drummer. I think that this drummer"John Markham" is the drummer who was excellent although it was of little note. in fact, there will be Benny and association from the second half of the 1950s He was a drummer.
This has to be one of the most depressing things I've seen on TH-cam. Having heard various versions, including the 1938 Carnegie Hall version, this is by far and away the worst.... To see 3 singers try to emulate the entire BG orchestra.. I'm at a loss for words.
The purpose of this song....was to make quiet a racket and shake the floor but here it's too quiet. The thing about swing is to make you get on your feet and start dancing!
I agree with malthus... it just doesn't have the intensity without the whole band. It's great that they were doing a new interpretation, but it just doesn't give you that rock'n roll feeling that this piece is so famous for.
No, this is not my thing. I like the music and Benny Goodman, but I don't like this version with a vocal group. It isn't the same thing, and when a bigband plays that piece. Who was the trumpet player? Who was the bass player? I tried to sound a little bit to Slam Stewart, but I know, that Slam was black. The drummer is good, but have no shomansship for the peace. Benny have problems to hit the high note at the end from his solo. This was the first time, that I heard missing the note.....
Great drummer! Shame we don't have his name. Very tight and precise. So rare these days. Showmanship? who needs it? It's what usually replaces lack of talent.
@1chevellelover haha are you kidding? As notes get higher on a clarinet, the problem actually becomes playing quietly :) still a good job though. I play clarinet.
blinzeromega you should count yourself lucky because ive never met anyone in my entire existance that has perfect pitch . . . . because its a myth not fact
I do not understand the inclusion of a bowed bass solo? I enjoyed the drummer - what a change from those who try their own version of Krupa. Benny's clarinet showed his age.

Swing music is great and Benny Goodman was THE MAN!! I grew up listening to my WWII era parents play this music at home. Great stuff!!
he was amazing....this song is one of my favorite song... i love jazz i love every single jazz musician like him...
Benny really enjoyed seeing his guest having fun. Here is a musician smiling with the crowd at age 76 and looking healthy.
I love every and any interpretation to this song!
I really luv this song...bravo Benny Goodman!
Superb, including the vocals. Swing, swing, swing!
Long live Benny and Gene! - Hat's off - pant's off. Doesn't get better than this!!!!!
71 is not at all 80, but I still agree with you. :)

Que lindas voces de Rare Sillk para interpretar este emblemático tema del gran Benny Goodman,
I stand corrected and thanx
Absolutely incedible, first I heardthis one!
Love the vocals
John Markham, one of Benny's best drummers.
this man is amazing!
So he was 71 when this was filmed? Impressive!
Heard this on the radio in the 80's with Benny's intro of the girl group. Great concert, and a "rare" opportunity to hear a gal group of my generation sing the song. Wish this were on disc.
AWESOME
F5cking awesome!!! Louis Prima would love this!!
Brilliant!!!
Love that double bass player's crooked eye and crooked smile
Maravilloso...!
tony terran studio trumpeter on many tv shows over the years. john markham well known drummer from san francisco.
Excellent drummer. John Markham may not have been as showy as Krupa, but he was precise which is more important than showmanship.
nice song
Il se bat avec le contre sol , est magnifique. Bravo Benny.
I think this is a brilliant version of this number. As a drummer i think John Markam does an amazing job of the solo . Not as animated as Gene was but technically perfect. I also like the scat . Clever way of filling the brass section.
I think it was great it was our music at the time
totally agree
just listen and appreciate
Not when it comes to critiqueing a shabby imitation of a great piece... You're right.
I like the instrumental version more, but this touch is also really nice
I like the bass solo!
Великолепное ансамблевое звучание, браво!
Wasn't 80 years old he was 71 at that time, but hell yeah he colud teach some things from his 14
これが、ジャングルトーン、いいですね。
Wish I had lived in the era of this music instead of the shit you get now
Flashback
This was a live interpretation of a classic , to be enjoyed for what it is .
IN CONCERT,
if you don't like it . switch off and let others enjoy
Singing into hairbrushes is quite fun, they must have practiced countless hours in the shower for this concert!
Makes me.. happy... dont know like singing in the rain it just have something jajaja
RIP "King of Swing"
All muscians and singers make this tune swing!!

sono una potenza!!!
Words and music was written by Louis Prima.
I find it kind of charming TBH,
Benny Goodman was severe to the drummer.
I think that this drummer"John Markham" is the drummer who was excellent although it was of little note.
in fact, there will be Benny and association from the second half of the 1950s He was a drummer.
Esta es música para levantar muertos. Y las vocalistas son extraordinarias.
Now i hear the worded version of the famous instrumental
Fantastic!!! But I miss Gene... This song will never be the same without Gene Krupa.
Sing with a swing..yes
I'm guessing Tony real name was Terranova. Terran is an unusual name, and Italians used to shorten their names.
+rdangelo or Terrano.

En este video alguien sabe la abrazadera que utiliza Goodman¿??¿
Podría ser una abrazadera bonade inverted??
The guy on bass reminds me of that munchkin guard from the Emerald City in The Wizard of Oz
I agree with malthus... it just doesn't have the intensity without the whole band.
It's great that they were doing a new interpretation, but it just doesn't give you that rock'n roll feeling that this piece is so famous for.
double bass🐻🐻🐻
クラ吹きなんで
死ぬまでに吹きたい
good version but listen to the one on here of butch miles absolutely incredible

I have some feeling that Sing Sang Sung got something from this
I thought benny goodman went missing in ww2
No that was glen miller

this is the original by louis prima with benny goodman covering it later on
Great drummer! Shame we don't have his name. Very tight and precise.

@1chevellelover haha are you kidding? As notes get higher on a clarinet, the problem actually becomes playing quietly :) still a good job though. I play clarinet.
mp3 rocket. type in under song name: sing sing sing. then for artist put: benny goodman
This drummer has no feeling or life when he plays this.
That was Glenn Miller.
blinzeromega you should count yourself lucky because ive never met anyone in my entire existance that has perfect pitch . . . . because its a myth not fact
just like in the 30's benny improvised and made up as he went with the flow
You managed to whinge for an entire paragraph. You're certainly at no loss when it comes to complaining.
Just a littlel Louie Prima tune
kyoto tachibana shs from japan
@angusthescribe Mi piace, mi piace ... altro che se mi piace!
Nem existia rock esses caras botavam quebrar 🎹🎻🎸🎤🎶🎵
@baldyoldfart Well, then it's a pity that that's not Gene.
what a disgrace to such a purely beautiful song. keep those traps shut!
@1chevellelover haha are you kidding? As notes get higher on a clarinet
I do not understand the inclusion of a bowed bass solo? I enjoyed the drummer - what a change from those who try their own version of Krupa. Benny's clarinet showed his age.
>I do not understand the inclusion of a bowed bass solo
Because it's awesome
The singing ruins it
They are also missing 4 minutes. But at this point it's ok.
nope
let me guess, you're the type of person who said Ragtime was vulgar when it first came out😂
@@PinacoladaMatthew I'm not THAT old! Almost but not quite. 😱
The lyrics were good, but I don't like sing sing sing having them
@angusthescribe
@loron91423 DUDE who cares
drummer should be more free
NOT BENNY GOODMAN!!!!😠😠😢😢😡😡😤😤😣😣😰
You are incorrect. This is a video of Benny Goodman, albeit not at his best.
Top notes not the real Benny quality, Best ever recording of this is the 1939 Carnegie Hall one...
the eighties are by far the most styleless decade of last century...those dresses are simply desperately styleless
