All I gotta say is this is such a great video. I took the time and watched this video twice and successfully completed my first stucco repair. Got all the right tools, the same material (with exception for getting steel lath instead of diamond wire) and did my best to stick to this routine. Turned out great and i appreciate all the information. Not only do I have another skill set under my belt but also earned me some money on the side! Great vid! Thanks!

Here's a old school dude that knows his trade ,I admire TF out of people like him..As an old school elevator mechanic myself it's nice to see people who give AF about their work..I'm the same way. I know my trade inside out because I was taught by the old schoolers before me and take my work seriously...Workmanship pride is a fading standard.
Did anyone else just feel like they were back in junior high or high school shop because this was one heck of a class. Yes I’m dating myself lol, middle school and high school late 70’s to early 80’s, I have yet to see a teaching DIY video like this one. Thanks for all the tips that I just learned. 😎

Then after watching your video, I understand how much work it takes to do the job. With that being said, this 66-year-old gal is going to give this a try. Excellent video! I was looking for video with a large hole similar to the one I'm repairing and this filled the bill. When I found it, I had already installed the barrier, foam board and wire. He does a great job of explaining the mixing of the stucco, desired consistency for both coats and the techniques for applying the material to the wall. Thanks!
Learned some extra skills today. You took it to the next level for me -- placing the forms, being patient with the setup times, doing the extra fine tuning -- cleaning the tools as you go. Just fantastic craftsmanship Thank you !
Ah yes a painting. A wall mural perhaps. Stucco on studs. You know no one ever gave me an award for stucco. So I went to college and learned how to paint pictures. Now my walls are decorated with watercolors, acrylics, oils and awards. Thank you for spending your time on my channel tonight. Ken

I worked flat concrete for years but never stucco. I've got a patch to do a little bit bigger than this one plus it has a brick pattern to it. Feeling pretty confident about it after watching this. Thanks
Great thorough repair done with pride not rushed by an employee . I'm doing a repair on eifs but still chose to use metal mesh and I liquid nailed under the sides then put screws in to hold it tight ill take screws out tomorrow and continue I wasn't completely sure how to get the heavy sand finish but see a green sponge float is what I need I'll pick one up tomorrow. Only other guy I really appreciate is Kurt Giordano he's in cali too he's really cool and takes pride as well. Thanks I learned alot today

What a pain in the butt these small repairs can be , very good work 👍👌 for a project that small I would recommend a bag of eisenwall stucco mix, stuff works great and sets fast .. just a thought , you know what you are doing regardless 🙏
This is a good video and you actually make it look moderately easy however you have tons of experience that someone doing this would not and they would not get the same result
@@AbersonPlastering To a point ya… but showing someone how to assemble/replace a p-trap under their sink is pretty easy. They can probably do it based on the video. Or for example changing out a single pole light switch. Even some simple drywall patching. Stucco patching is more involved than those things. At least to make it look good. I guess anyone could just mix up a batch of rapid set from Home Depot and just smear two or three coats on there.

Past away 11 years ago RIP. He was 10 years almost exactly my senior that would make him 73 right now in 2024. But I gotta tell you Fred you sound just like him. He was always guiding me and correcting me. I gotta talk more about him in tomorrow’s video. He went by Jeff for many years ‘‘twas his middle name. Until later in life he demanded more respect from everyone because he knew his shit. I started working for him back in 86. 7 years later I had my own business and he came and worked for me.
Use Lowe’s fast set in the summer. Use Home Depot mortar mix rapid set in the winter. Lowe’s is slower where Home Depot’s is faster. Cold weather will prevent the material to go off to fast. Do you follow me?
Thanks and oh I know, I have three daughters. And I’ve come to realize the value of a woman at work. Most don’t fool around. I just wish I could find a woman that was interested in doing the work here. Women tend to have more pride in their work. Trouble is everything in this trade is heavy, even too heavy for me. Why do they have to make the bags of stucco so heavy? I don’t know. But they do. Hey good luck, hopefully it’s a smaller task that you have to do. You can do it. Your hardest part will be the handling of the bagged material. Be smart about it. And if you are going to use any type of fast setting material, I recommend not being to over confident with it. Keep an eye on it and don’t be over confident about it. Expect the patch to dry faster than you think. Be ready to level it off fast. Not trying to scare you. As long as you don’t walk away you will be fine. You can gently add more water if the material in the bucket is starting to get hard, but from my experience, it will take longer for it to dry on the wall and in the bucket which isn’t a horrible thing.
I wish more of you guys are in NY. I reached out to half dozen contractors and none were interested in repair jobs and never return calls. They all want to tear to whole wall, change to eifs from traditional for the guarantee.
Ken, do you recommend EIFS resurfacing over traditional stucco for water leak caused by an expansion joint going across a window? There will be no foam. The water is entering the interior of window. Thank you!!
Hi user, the black paper can be called Fortifiber, Plaster kraft, 10 D and 60 minute black paper. It also can be purchased as double or single ply. Double usually goes over solid shear wall and single over open stud, but thats not written in stone.
Absolutely. If it a small job. When you use this formula you could go to lunch come back and paint it. If for some reason it fails just paint it again. But I would only risk it on a smaller patch not a big job. On a side note I’ve never had a paint job fail, but I’m long gone by the time it would fail. I’ve never heard anything negative. I’ve helped people by painting it fast because sometimes they are selling and need it done yesterday
There is more to it than what meets the eye by the use of Fortifiber paper made specifically for stucco and/or masonry installations especially 60 minute paper.
No it’s solid and in good condition see how hard the wood is at 6:29. All of the wood is good. It looks like that copper plumbing will need to be replaced soon. Perhaps it would be better to build a hatch to access the plumbing at a later time., instead of permanently sealing the access here What do you think phdez09?
it is recommended. Over the years I have let it go by the wayside because the hot stuff sticks to the paint really well. Not so much the regular stucco

Get 60 minute building paper if you can. There is also regular grade D. But it won’t say what minute it is. If you can’t find the paper use roofing paper. Good luck Jerry

Hi user, the black paper can be called Fortifiber, Plaster kraft, 10 D and 60 minute black paper. It also can be purchased as double or single ply. Double usually goes over solid shear wall and single over open stud, but thats not written in stone.

Absolutely. If it a small job. When you use this formula you could go to lunch come back and paint it. If for some reason it fails just paint it again. But I would only risk it on a smaller patch not a big job. On a side note I’ve never had a paint job fail, but I’m long gone by the time it would fail. I’ve never heard anything negative. I’ve helped people by painting it fast because sometimes they are selling and need it done yesterday

Wow! Paper is your vapor barrier. Stucco accepts water. Paper is your best defense.
There is more to it than what meets the eye by the use of Fortifiber paper made specifically for stucco and/or masonry installations especially 60 minute paper.

No it’s solid and in good condition see how hard the wood is at 6:29. All of the wood is good. It looks like that copper plumbing will need to be replaced soon. Perhaps it would be better to build a hatch to access the plumbing at a later time., instead of permanently sealing the access here What do you think phdez09?

Are you supposed to paint on some bonding paint for the perimeter of the patch? It won’t stick to the paint will it?
it is recommended. Over the years I have let it go by the wayside because the hot stuff sticks to the paint really well. Not so much the regular stucco

Get 60 minute building paper if you can. There is also regular grade D. But it won’t say what minute it is. If you can’t find the paper use roofing paper. Good luck Jerry
