Horses came out in 1975....i was 15....my friend had the record and it blew my mind...i was stunned she would talk in the middle of songs...didn't understand but years later realized it was so unique and pure poetry.....
So visibly difficult for her to discuss Fred so soon after he passed. This is one of the only interviews I’ve seen that Charlie Rose did not constantly interrupt. She is so refreshing to listen to. Is on Substack too.
Space-time and time travel. I finally got to attend one of your concerts at the Askena Rock Festival, and I did travel through time and space, to a space and time, I know not where or when, but there I was travelling, floating along the sound waves with loved ones and friends present, absent.... past and passed on. All together with the vibe. Do NOT listen to those who would have you believe that people don't wannna read literature and poems and hear songs and music on issues and concerns. these are no more than devils in disguise who would suck the soul out of any artist for a fistful of corporate dollars. The so called "Protest" music or what I prefer to denominate as Culture Lyric, socially aware music from socially aware artists will always have an audience, and will always resonate through out time. How much poetry and music still rings true today as it did when written? From Aristotle to Peaches and beyond. No.... take no notice of these corporate cogs and never stop giving the people what they want and need to fill their souls and help them along their journey through life. Thank YOU from the bottom of the heart and the depths of my soul for you have given me the will to carry on.
Love, Patti Smith...not Charlie Rose...I always tried to understand the mindset of Patti Smith...Me, being a traditionalist... and I am constantly being surprised that she is not so "way out" as I thought. She's a warm, sensitive, unique, individual who just gets more talented and "better" with age.
I bought Horses strictly by seeing the album advertised in Rolling Stone magazine. "Jesus died for somebody's sins, but not mine".....I was fucking hooked.....
Love to read patties book ,,,quite scary about we are all going to die,,, bit like child birth,,,,,when I die ,,, hope it is ,,,,pain free,,,,,,,love 💚
"Here great woman, talk about men to met y'know, the people who Really matter." Patti is impressively unaffected and took herself seriously, something that is difficult when constantly belittled and undermined by competitive men who would prefer you remain a passive object of pleasure. We women must master the art of Not Caring in order to persevere.
Tough to watch the paternalising manner of the interviewer. And this in 1997! She just takes it in a stride. Amazing person. He even draws back a bit in his chair facing the other one’s calm and no nonsense. How beautifully she shares about the death of his friend to us all.
Why is the photo filtered...? On the original pic her armpits are hairy! /not very much , she's not a hairy person, but anyway....unshaved!/ I don't think this is O.K.!
I noticed that too. Was it censored or something? How the hell is female body hair offensive or even worthy of censorship? That's just crazy to me. I'm an actress, poet and performance artist, and I don't shave or wear make-up, I've never been censored. Different times, I guess. But even still, that's no excuse. xx
Patti Smith is my spirit animal. Just love her. Blessed to have experienced her in person x3. Even this year, as for Charlie Rose, he may be a piece of shit, but his interviews have always been some of my favorite.
Meghan Markle (et al) could learn a thing or two about feminism from the the likes of THIS WOMAN. This woman, imho, is a feminist…with an uppercase F! Intelligent, sensitive, articulate, impassioned, creative, and her history tells us that she’s a compassionate humanist. She ‘burnt the bra’ decades ago, and as a true 1960s feminist, strives for peace and EQUALITY - not SUPERIORITY - the state of being that, imo, 4th wave (+) feminists militantly aspire to. There’s no ‘prettying’ herself up, there’s no need to bare cleavage, no bright red nail polish, no artificial eyelashes, no ‘blonde’ hair, no hair extensions, no nose job, no ultra white teeth, no flash of a stilletoed leg…AKA - no pretence, no contrived ‘sexuality’. There’s no ‘conveniently’ marrying into a high profile family to finally ‘make it’ on the world stage, and standing in front of the camera, posing every which way, to garner some sort of attention - ANY sort of attention. With Patti Smith it’s just pure ‘over the kitchen table’ conversation, whenever she’s interviewed. Not an egoic display of all her latest political and philanthropic accomplishments. Refreshing. Still refreshing at 75!
People are different, women are different, feminists are different. I love her natural style, but that doesn't mean women having a different style couldn't be feminists. There is still a wide range of stupid prejudices about women, so we still need a wide range of feminism against it.
Patti remains a shining light. Mr. Rose seems cowed and bewildered by her.
Patti Smith is a perfect example of doing what you love and not being concerned with appearance or trying to fit into a box. She is art itself
Well her appearance" is that of a traveler' maybe in some ways time' her beauty shines through her simplicity. X
I just love her, she is without vanity and real, very rare person.
I respect this woman so much' she speaks from a truly gentle and yet vibrant and awake viewpoint! Yes' I love her spirit. X
I bet you wouldn’t think that way about her if she was a lesbian.
2020!!!! Such a fierce artist!!! Love Patti Smith!!
I just love Patti. Ever since the 70's. While we may not agree on everything, I admire her greatly ❤
Patti is such an amazing beautiful women inside and out, she shines.

A TRUE AMERICAN HERO! PATTI SMITH'S MUSIC NEVER AGES.....TIMELESS
She is a realist a prophet of rock and a great spokesperson for us baby boomers
Yeah... and for the children of baby boomers (like me) it's always interesting to listen to her. Great intellect and insight! -groetuitholland☮🧡
if I had one wish I would wish to have a convo with Patti while eating some good dinner.
I admire her so much
when she talks about Fred...it is everything. She is the very best. Followed her since 1975.
Same here! She is ageless and a shining light. Beautiful inside and out.❤
Patty feels very deeply about things.

Love that art form, writers are ridiculous. I’m the Velveteen Rabbit, at least for now. Thank you, to you and your band.

Even if she were, that's not ok to photoshop people
@@eliaol4231 True!
great reflection on materialistic oriented music
0:06 did they Photoshop-shave her??!! WTF?!!!!!!,
When she listed issues she mentioned, “ Heaven’s Gate”, and I doubt she meant the infamous western film. Anyone know what she meant?
0:01 Why was her armpit hair photoshopped out?! :D
