    Sweet Scanner! Wonderful vintage technology. Didn’t know such stuff existed then!

      Shortwave has been around for 100 years and WWV just turned 100 not long ago. By the time this radio was made, the technology was pretty much perfected.

    I always used to love tuning in to WWV on my Heathkit shortwave in Oak Ridge in the late 1960s. I DO have a Zenith 12S232 in perfect condition now

    I've never heard of these strange stations that made a ticking noise and told the time. I would like to know more about them.

      Google "WWV" and "WWVH"

    I always wondered how the Walton's afforded such an expensive radio. They were always short on cash.

      And, it was a 1938 model. I think it was round a hundred bucks, also. John Boy graduated in 1934.

      I sold the radio a year and a half ago. Fetched quite a bit of money on eBay!

      I have a Zenith 12-s-232 radio (same model as this one) that needs restored if you are interested in buying one still. Mouse chewed up some wires, but still a very valuable radio if you are interested.

    I would like a bucking transformer for my 9S-232. Did you make yours?

    So is that a bucking transx? Why does it need that?

    • @crooner2007
      @crooner2007  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It needs it because the power transformer is a tad undersized for the large 12 tube chassis and tends to run hot at today's line voltages. Running it between 105 to 110V will help it run cooler and performance is hardly affected as you can see in the video. It still pulls in many DX stations with ease.

      @@richardraymond5535 the 12 tube version? These are the finest tube radios ever made in my humble opinion. I re-stuffed all the caps so it would look original. I wish I still had it. Enjoy!

      @@crooner2007 The 835 was a better radio than the 12 tubes, the 15's were nice too though.
