- In 1931 Philco Commissioned Edward Coombs to design their iconic cabinet that has become synonymous with Antique Radios in general. This model was picked up locally. While I wasn't sure of the condition, I did discover a past restoration so just some minor work was done to bring it up to operation. The old dial scale was in fair condition, so a replacement was ordered and installed. This video will brush on the history of the radio, identifying the variation of this model, and making sure it is fully operational.
Good work keeping this gem alive.
the model 90 cost $69.50 according to the 1931 brochure. Adjusted for inflation in todays money that would be $1,428.10. CRAZY! Beautiful radio my friend. I got a pristine example of a model 90 just today. I love it.
That was great. I enjoyed it very much.
Really good thanks!
Very cool!
Hello. For tjhe more technically interested guys, is this already a superheterodyne receiver ?
What is the IF ? Long time ago they used 110 Khz. Four varable tuning cap's ? Why ?
Some detailed explanation using the schematic would reveil a lot to the technique, used in those days.
Most kindly, from an old technician in Belgium.
Have a philco with an electric clock 4tube its a tomestone radio early 30s have couple of cathedrals one a trf other superhet they work .👍. I dont recap have parts radios just filters added
An easy one.
Do you have any details on your AM antenna build that you would be willing to share? I need one and yours looks pretty impressive.
I just received some Litz wire so I'll be building one for the channel, but I just took info that I got from David Schmarder on this page:
www.iw5edi.com/ham-radio/5909/daves-homemade-loop-antennas
I added a 360pf variable capacitor to it and added a switch that shorts around it, so I can use it with the variable capacitor or without.
Thanks William, I'm looking forward to seeing the video.@@antiqueradioarcheology-wil8878
