I first went to OT 1956 omg that makes me very old, I spent my life in the construction business, there is only so much you can do when you refurbish a building it still has it's flaws, It's time to move on so it's a new stadium for me, the whole area redeveloped is the way to go, I can see the vision just hope I live long enough to see it completed, "United Center" we can have the Biggest Bar in the world,

Quality, informative reporting. Thank you, Andy. Greatly received. I was an eight or nine-year-old boy in the Stretford end in the 70's. I do wish they could fathom a way to bring back that great wall of noise maybe even standing but with inherent safety. Some way of making that end as formidable as it is possible to be.

Heart says upgrade old stadium, but head says build new stadium and improve the immediate area. The talk of lord Foster being the design architect for the new stadium is interesting as he designed the gherkin in London but more so he designed the Mclaren Technology centre in Woking which is probably about 20 years old or so now but still is impressive and feels modern. Sad but also exciting time to be a Manchester Utd fan.

Old Trafford is a magical place and there is no feeling that comes close after a goal’s been scored. My biggest fear is for that magic to disappear. Also the shape of the stadium and the architectural style makes it stand out. I’d hate it if they turned it into a Panini toaster like Madrid did. I feel like any new stadium should really feel intimidating and overwhelming to visit for opponents instead of the American stadium designs where they look impressive on the outside but too corporate and clean on the inside.

    • @languageoffootball
      @languageoffootball หลายเดือนก่อน

If a new stadium is built current Old Trafford must be retained in some capacity. Club shop, cafe, museum could all stay and be added with more day to day club functions, the ultimate fan zone. As for funding the new stadium £50-£100million a season could help .

I never remember my dreams, but one stands out from about 3 or 4 years ago, where I was standing on terraces in an "immersive experience room" opposite the East Stand, but watching, on a huge screen, a live game which was going on at O.T. At the time I interpreted it as being for those who preferred to stand or alternatively couldn't get tickets for the sold out game next door. Weird how something vaguely similar could be in the offing.

The redevelopment options of a Old Trafford HAS to be the first priority, I got my email and took part in the form. I’m not against a new stadium by any means but when you think of how many generations of fans, legends who have been born on that very pitch, trophies won, countless emotions, memories, history, victories and the list can go on, there’s just too much at old Trafford for it to be abandoned. We’ve been through the worst period over this past decade, but old Trafford and the fans have been the heartbeat of it all and I want nothing more to continue lifting trophies there. I fear moving to a new stadium and it being lifeless and unsettling. I don’t have doubt in our fans as we have the best energy but will a new stadium be home? I’m not easily convinced with there...

  • @IAmConorr

I’d personally like a new stadium, but only on the promise it won’t be a SOFI’esq bowl. Even something that resembled the Lucas Oil stadium would be better with the red brick exterior. The stadium is a home, but as Andy mentioned, no matter the outcome and plan, it needs to serve a purpose to the local community.

I’m for refurbishment personally. For me you can feel the history on every visit to Old Trafford. And just look at the Bernabéu, engineering in-place, can be done!
As fans though, we shouldn’t be taken in by the promise of something shinny and new. There will be a cost, and 100% we will pay for it in increased ticket costs, food and drink etc. They are trying to follow that American NFL model, where the costs to attend are high and dynamic pricing. Went to my first game at Old Trafford in 1954, been to games after each new renovation and love that it's grown with the club through the decades. If the club demollish Old Trafford so be it but I think there's still life left in the old girl yet. Barca and Real are renovating their stadiums and both their stadiums instead of building new ones. And both those stadiums are older than the majority of Old Trafford as most of the current OT was only built in the last 30 years.

For me it has to be a new stadium. It's the only way we can have a stadium the club deserves, and it's the only way we can get the capacity we need. Sick of compromises and putting up with second best. It's not as though we're moving location, it'll be right behind the Stretford End.
The way I look at it...the only way the old ground can redeveloped to the standard needed is a full tear-down and rebuild. We'd have 10 years of disruption. The design and capacity will be compromised by squeezing it into that corner of the plot, and how it fits into the Wharfside project will be compromised as well. I don't see the point in making all those concessions just so that we can say that we've kept the pitch on the exact same footprint.

If we build a new ground, it will be outdated in 20 years but we won't have any history or aura around it. it will just be another new stadium. People will talk about playing at the Nou Camp and bernabeu. Even Anfield. No players will ever talk about playing in a new iconic stadium. The iconic stadium is there and should be rejuvenated. Spurs fans have quickly gone off their new stadium. The emirates(roof leaking) and Wembley are terrible. Ticket prices in a new stadium will be expensive and they will put the club in 2BN debt. That will be 3BN in debt in total. They clubs only worth 5BN. However what you said about the housing is correct. I'm tired of seeing these high rise blocks going up but people want houses, not massive flats. If it does bring houses and not just flats then that will be good for the area. I'm with you about the stadium, Old Trafford isn't as bad as what people say. I want to go to a football ground, not an entertainment arena like America. Being from the States, it's hardly my position to tell the club what to do. However, having been to OT twice, I hope they build a world-class facility AND I hope they don't make it like so many newer American stadiums, where the fans have so much room that there is no atmosphere. Part of the reason the Stretford End is so loud is because they are on top of each other AND on top of the pitch. This needs to be a primary part of the design.

There will be far more legroom with larger seats and this is certain, modern regulations for new builds ensure this. You can't maximize capacity by packing 'em in like sardines like was done in the past, standards have changed.

@@SuperMagnum83 Right. I get that. They have to make sure there is enough vertical elevation between rows; if not, the people in the back half of the section are a mile away from the action. I know there is no way to please everyone, though. No matter what they do, there will be a faction of "they got it all wrong"!

I don't know, I just think the new stadium needs to be on the same site. When I watch United play at home I want to know that's the same piece of land that the Busby babes and George Best played on.

Memories only live in the minds of those who were there. Can't bring back the crush & sweating on the terrace of the 70's, anymore than the next generation would want it. Bulldoze OT but leave the old brick corner (Scorboard Paddock) Colosseum style. Along with the neon Manchester United lights. & Build us a Billion£ stadium to last the future. GGMU 🎉

People/fans need to understand SJR will only be backing this with his money only when he buys all of United and becomes a majority owner . He’s not doing anything as a minority stake owner .He may need to outlay anywhere between 10-14bn for full club ownership and this huge Old Trafford infrastructure project . The glazers are the only people standing in the way of this right now , so until SJR buys them out this is just talk .

as much as it being a dream to keep old trafford - every building has a limit, which has, lets be honest, long past
as it goes for capacity to 100,000 - a full spurs and a full leeds stadium in there would still have empty seats
match day revenue alone will increase by several million

I’ve gone back and forth on this for years. There was a time when I was dead set against a new build, and the thought of moving away from Old Trafford absolutely horrified me. In recent years, my view has changed. There is no bigger club than United, and we should have the best stadium on the planet. The soul of the club isn’t the bricks and mortar, it’s the fans. We’ll retain the atmosphere wherever we play. We should get Foster + Partners on board and create a world class 100,000 seater architectural masterpiece. One thing they have to get absolutely spot on is the exterior. I really don’t want it to look like the Bernabéu. That’s an awful looking stadium.

You’re right Adam, the fans shouldn’t be naive enough to believe that they’re really going to take that into consideration. They’re going to build a new stadium, which I think is the best way. Nothing lasts forever. You can’t compare United to Real & Barca because they had legitimate places to play during construction.
