They also reduced the scaling importance of Items. Instead, they used Levelling as the biggest factor of difficulty scaling, which misses the point: Levelling was the SMALLEST factor of difficulty in Risk of Rain. Time and Items were what made or broke each run, levelling was only impactful in the start but greatly slows down and gets overshadowed in every way by Items. 2. While the Lemurian Log in Hostile Worlds shows that Frima COULD do the lore justice, the fact is: they've fucked up too much ALREADY. They bootlegged the Ceremonial Daggers into Dagger of the Ceremony, called it's damage type "Void Damage" when it has literally nothing to do with the Void. They made Huntress' damage type Corrosive when nothing of her kit is acidic-based, and they fucked up her lore in the Log, calling her a thief. She's not a thief, that title belonged to someone else in the majority of her log, someone who then dies TO her. 3. Numerous items and abilities are inaccurate, and the worst cases have lost meaning to their effect and identity. Berserker's Pauldron is supposed to incentivise and reward bloodthirsty rapid killing, not reward killing over any time length. It's the very identity of the item and it's name. Safer Spaces is supposed to be consistent and guard the user from a hit when it's effect is active. Instead in Hostile Worlds it's a chance of a retaliation effect, the opposite of what Safer Spaces and Tougher Times are in name, appearance and function: to give safety, NOT cause harm. 4. They didn't even put any lore in ANY of the Items. It's Empty! The Items' Logbooks aren't just for stats, they hold info that is often CRITICAL for the story. Frima CAN fix it, but they have a LOT to fix. And considering that they called Hostile Worlds "The best of Risk of Rain.", their Ego MIGHT be high enough to disregard criticism. Gearbox's Higher-ups and Frima clearly do not fully understand what made Risk of Rain so great. At least the unnamed team handling the DLC seem to show more understanding and awareness of the story and game.
I would rather they make a void version of the ceremonial daggers where it would fire off a ring of 3 scythes from the enemy to deal void damage upon the first hit to the enemy instead of utterly desecrating the ceremonial daggers
This is essentially a dungeon crawler RPG with a few risk of rain elements thrown in. It doesn't play like risk of rain AT ALL but if youre looking for a free light weight ARPG that seems somewhat fair with its monetization, id suggest trying it.
That's not really fair, by mobile game atandards this looks decent. As a fan of the series I don't expect I would like it. I would be comparing it to better games made for consoles and PC, and it just can't hold up - duh, it's a mobile game. But if you like mobile games (and no hate to people who do), this looks perfectly decent.

I played this game almost as soon as the beta started and made sure I was logged into my google play and after playing a couple days the game reset my character back to the very start. I got railroaded by the dumb tutorial before I could even contact support and after finally contacting support it took me OVER A MONTH of talking to the support and repeating myself 4-5 times and then yesterday they FINALLY restored my character and offered me absolutely 0 compensation for all the hassle and wasted time they caused. It wasn't fun. For that reason I am actively warning people DON'T PLAY THIS GAME. The devs obviously don't care and if they mess up your game progress it will take you forever to get it back and they will treat you like you messed up. It was the worst mobile support experience I have ever had and that says alot because I play and rate a ton of games.

Gearbox writing hasn’t done very good recently but people fail to remember that gearbox’s gameplay team has actually never failed to deliver. BL3 and Wonderlands had terrible writing (wonderlands was better than 3 though) but their gameplay was the best gearbox has EVER delivered. The DLC and Risk of Rain will be fine
I'll give it a try, it looks like it has several elements of why the other three games are good. But there are also several things that kinda feel like they're defiling the game for the express purpose of entering the mobile game space regardless of whether it fits the IP well. I'll have to form my opinion on it after trying it out, but I'm not very optimistic.

Everybody is talking about things they don’t like, so I’d like to say what I do like about this, in regards to things not in ror2 or the other two games, I like the character swapping feature, it adds a new level of synchronization in a particular build and makes cooldown management much more important a skill. You’ll be able to have a game where you interweave character abilities and movement to win, because it’s like having three movesets that you can swap between. Or you can be a little loser and play each character as its own thing until death. Because of this aspect you’ll have to really pay attention to cooldowns, since now you’ve also gotta manage 9 abilities, and there’s almost always something to do. Next, I can get behind the gacha system. It really helps give more incentive to grind the game. Gacha’s pretty addictive. They’ve also brought a lot more characters in than the main games because of the mobile format, so there’s more content. Especially in a game like an ip like ror where the fun is watching each item interact with each kit individually. Imagine a medic build with a bunch of DOT that just turns you into a walking solvent. And TO ADDRESS the things people don’t like about it, the “cashgrab gacha” format is effective. If people didn’t like it people wouldn’t play games with it. There are plenty of people who like it, and if you don’t, then it’s not your game. It’s okay. Most people here just expected them to copy and paste ror2 onto a mobile device and call it a day. The lore part is pretty sad though yeah.
