Brilliant - saw Eric last night at a Hotel in Chichester - the place was packed with the royalty of Aviation, - as this guy is! Always been fascinated with flying since working at the Shoreham Airport - tried gliding, but never flown a plane!! Amazing!"
An e xtraordinary man. If anyone personified the ludicrous situation we have whereby we now have knighthoods given to celebrities and bankers and jobsworth mates, it is this man. his life and record stands for itself, demanding and warranting total respect.
You just know that many of these captured german aircraft were simply scrapped after the trials. I’ve seen a few at Hendon but inly those that were in the battle of britain. Too bad to have lost that rich aviation history
He was from Yorkshire, England. Lots of people who are born in the county can have a very strong accent that is similar to what lots of people would think is Scottish as the county is in the northwest of the country it can be home to many who have this sort of accent as the late E. Brown did. To further elaborate on this I have a friend who’s parents don’t speak at all like him and even I used to be under the impression that he was Scottish but they are all Yorkshire folk.
What a marvellous character… deepest respect… read all his books
It's very sad his involvement with the Miles M.52 scandal cost him his Knighthood.
Sir Eric Winkle Brown
@awatt *He was denied his Knighthood because of his financial involvement with Dennis Bancroft in the M.52 scandal.*

No miles scandal. You are just making stuff up as usual.
@@awatt *The Miles M.52 scandal is the most shameful and humiliating chapter in British aviation history.*

I visited Tangmere museum, and saw I had missed his lecture by ONE day. Possibly the bggest disappointment of my life! (I was born lucky).
Excellent, this guy is a true British hero.

I grew up in the fifties. By the time I was seven, I knew the names of a few test pilots.
Unfortunately, Brown's involvement in the Miles M.52 embezzlement scandal cost him his Knighthood and tarnished his otherwise impeccable reputation.
