good concept this is the same reason skate boards are made out of laminated wood and no one questions why that hasn't transferred over to other things that need to be light and durable.
Would love to get a copy of that A1 printout so I could build this, such a nice shape and so nice to see it take shape from pieces of ply-wood. How did you fix the drop-outs into the frame? As the ply will be horizontally laid, side clamping would have the issue of forcing the laminates apart.
Wow, such a cool design of bike, would the option of steam bending the curves assist the frame strength and grain direction? I've been looking at ply type frames for a while and this one does look really nice. I'd love to get hold of the drawing you made to get a steam formed version made.
Creio que para um melhor fortalecimento do quadro indico passar resina em vez de verniz para madeira. além de proteger a madeira da um acabamento muito mais bonito.
The thickness of the beech sheets were roughly 2-3mm, and there was no steam bending required, since the sheets were thin enough to allow bending, just high amounts of pressure from clamping
Wood is not a good choice at all, and cost of trees is not good choice for them. It is like the CFLs energy saver bulbs, they claim they were greener but in reality they did more harm than the ok'd 100W bulb and then came LED true energy saver bulbs and it is the same for your wooden bike, how many trees will it cost and how safe would a wooden frame be when left in the back garden or shed.
More sustainable? Cutting down our trees is sustainable? What is the true environmental impact of your machines to make the frame? Do those tools come from sources that have less impact on the environment? What impact does the glue manufacturing process have on the environment? Look at the big picture and learn about the real bottom line of your process compared to a regular bicycle.
This is exactly what I was thinking. As a neat project this is cool, but as a "replacement" unrealistic and potentially way more harmful to the environment.
You are right! Just because we all have something wooden in our homes means that we must cut down and use any and all wood we can for any purpose and claim that it is good for the environment. We must never reduce or eliminate our tree cutting practices.
+Robert Evans i see where your coming from, and i respect your argument. however, if we compare embodied energy between wood and metal, metal production/recycle is much more energy consuming and the annual green house gas emission is off the chart due to the high energy requirement for industrial smelter (don't take my word for it do your own research). you may argue cutting down trees is a bad thing, however, the fact is that in many countries, trees are deliberately grown and regrown in plantations and natural environment. the consumption of raw wood can be recovered naturally in an acceptable time frame (a couple decades, usually 2 decades) with little to no green house gas emission (the little emission comes from harvesting vehicle and wood factory), while metal ore take millions of years to form naturally. bottom line is metal and wood manufacturer both has its environmental issues, but with greater demand of wood comes more tree plantations. even if the intention for growing these trees is to cut it down eventually, it still benefits the earth in some way, and i can not say the same for metal production industry. in terms of glue manufacturing process, i am not very knowledgeable on that field, so i really can't comment on that. hopefully you would consider my response as a valid argument. if your not convinced, like i said, research it and see if you have a change in perspective, have a good day sir :D
What real work of Art From A Real Craftsman, Great Work
Very nice!!! I'd love to ride a wooden bicycle some day and maybe own one!!
Beautiful work 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
it's gorgeous!
inteligente e inovador, parabéns pelo trabalho fantástico.
Good job! If I just had workshop like yours
رائع من اروع التصميم الدراجة الهوائية
Nice project!
That's a cool-looking bike
Thanks man :)
beautiful work, hope to see it in the melbourne custom bike show at the end of the year
Wow, wood, you believe it.!
Thanks! I'm hoping I get in this time, as I'd like to showcase more bikes
Thanks, you should post a video of it when it gets going! I'd like to do a trike/recumbent myself sometime in the future, also using wood :P
good concept this is the same reason skate boards are made out of laminated wood and no one questions why that hasn't transferred over to other things that need to be light and durable.
Good job. Very nice looking bike. But its more like Wooden Frame instead of wooden bike.
impressive work
Cheers!
So nice
nice work, I'm planning a plywood recumbent bike/trike. I hope it turns out as well as your project.

Cutting down trees is sustainable if the forest is managed, and replanted.
Steel is more durable and doesn't require deforestation.

What lengths of wood did you use on the top and bottom glue-lam assemblies?
What kind of glue did you use to get good resistance?
how heavy is the bike?
cheers
Very good bike, congratulations, that wood is?
very nice indeed! how much did the frame weigh?
..or how much does the bike weigh?
I think it's a good idea to use wood instead of carbon fiber reinforced plastic which is much harder to recycle.
How did you make the hole for Handel bars
How did you do the hole for Handel bar
Zheng Excellent piece. would you be willing to share your design? I'm looking to build up my first wood bike thanks.
wonderfull man, i need one here... but, can u send me that to Peru??... how much will be the cost??
It's quite heavy with the gears, I forget how much now, but about 13kg, however the ones I built after this are getting lighter :D
How heavy this frame?
you sell pictures like these?
Are you telling us that wood and glue is more organic and durable than steel?
13 kg isn't all that bad, there are many mtbs with that weight and most city/leisure bikes are even heavier :)
Hola buen trabajo podrías a ser vídeos de paso a paso y que materiales utilizas gracias
What thickness were the beech sheets? Was the wood steam bent before or laid on the MDF former and then steam bent?

@@zhengchin9287 good idea, italians invented wood bike in 1938

can you tell me what is the price for this bike?
His selling point is it's "sustainable" because it's wood? What about all those metal tools required to make it? 😆 Gotta match?

Robert Evans + you can use steel over and over again and a solid steel frame arguably lasts longer. 'sunstainable' these days doesnt mean anything

Y'all, trees regrow. Cut them down, replant them: see silvaculture.
