Thanks for the tip about how not to dig a trench. I'm still learning and that definitely helps. I appreciate all your advice. And I really enjoy all your videos. Thanks again!
Your videos are great . Im self taught on backhoe and mini ex. Wouldnt consider my self great but i ve been doing septic systems for a couple years. I went to apply for a job digging footings. I watched your videos for half the day. Great tips and knowledge on your part. You operate like no other ive seen. Well i tried to apply what you were teaching on your videos when the company threw me in a couple pieces of equipment and painted out some lines to dig on interview. Needless to say, got the job and. your videos had alot to do with it. Thx
Thanks! Most instructors probably have little if any backhoe experience, it’s not their fault, just the way it goes. I’m glad you have gained from the videos.
Glad to see your staying busy! Got me a B95B on it's way in a few weeks to replace my 95B ! Cant wait ! Take care my friend, BRENT,S BACKHOE Service CA
I went with the last tier 3 , the 2011, my New Holland guy told me to stay clear of the 2012 on up! He maintains a bunch of them and says the 12 on up is always having troubles in his fleet!
This was great! Might be getting the backhoe out in a couple weeks (not for fun 😒 ) and I'll definitely be trying to follow your example. You, sir, are an excellent teacher and you lead by example! Thanks for the video!
The difference is you care and the people who hire you are glad to have you cause you don't cause problems. I think the term you were looking for is "frost heave", when the frozen ground pushes or pulls part of the foundation.
I've been in construction all my life, been around some of the best operators union and non union. That being said, you sir are a pleasure to watch. I hope you have someone standing behind you waiting to take over when you're ready. It would be a real shame to lose that talent someday when you decide to retire
It’s ok Frank you can come out and say don’t dig them like Elite! 🤣 I don’t know what I’m doing lol! I like your technique makes a lot of sense and I will definitely be doing that on my next footing. Great video as always
I also think it's worth a mention that you have your digging bucket setup very well with your tooth w i d t h as compared do the bucket w i d t h. I mean I'm patently convinced that you could dig with anything but the better the Tooling & Equipment the easier it is to get top shelf results
@@Digginok well you are far more than just skill in dexterity. You truly understand the machine how it works the tooling and how it works. There are a lot of people in this world that have tools that they don't know how to use. You are not amongst them. The mind is the most important tool and your mind is very sharp
I dug about 2 feet under the house footings (one corner of the house) to pour 40cm of deep concrete than put a concrete block 30cmx30cm of diameter to jack up the house levelling but at this depth clay is softer than where the original footing is. If l pour concrete than level it would it be ok or what is your advice? I need help. Thank you
Sorry I just found this comment, I would consider digging and pouring concrete under existing footing. sometimes a wide footing can be used to float on top of soft soils.
@@Digginokl did wider footers to spread the weight. I have to do 3 pins ( concrete blocks) the corner of the house and 2 sides which is about 10 feet away from the corner. Can l level the corner first and then do the sides or should l level all 3 at the same time starting from the corner?
Great advise Frank. I start digging like you, then I want to get just a couple more feet, which with a mini ex ends up digging to close/under to the machine, then I bust the top out of the ditch. Nice work as always Frank
Nice video Frank! And I cant count how many times i see guys here cut trenches like that and just destroy the tops of their cut. Looks like trash afterwards, you definitely have it down!
Good Morning Frank, Thank you for the video. When you dig wide footings ,you dig the edges first and the centre last that way the bucket has support and doesn"t keep waundering to the centre of the dig . Just like when you dig a manhole etc, you know what I mean!!! Anyway Take Care ;). Did you get any JCB Footage after??.
What I don't understand, is why they put the piers in then-what appears to be- backfill over them with the compactable fill just to have you come and dig it all back out again. It would seem, to me, that it would be easier to dig the ditches then have them come in and place all the pier holes in them when the ditch is ready. I think that would leave the rebar less subject to damage. The only thing I can think of why they would do it they way they do is so that the piers have time to "set up" in order to hold the rest of the footing up and not have the ditches sit open for a few weeks while they do. Am I missing anything about the reasoning for it?
The piers are poured below grade after the dirt work is done. The problem with drilling after is you have to dig the ditch out again from the pier drilling, also it is hard to get close to the hole without the ditch caving in. I’m sure it could be done 10 different ways, but this is how they do it.
After our piers are poured we cover up so we don't fight all the holes holding water also. Most of the time ours are put in a few weeks before footings are dug.
@@Digginok Frank you are absolutely correct on how most people excavate for foundations improperly. Everybody does it that way and it doesn't work as well as your approach.
Bet that guy checking level thought you lost it when you started digging the "wrong" way. Noticed when you were moving dirt, you reached over the pile & pulled it over then scooped it up. What's your reason for doing it that way?

I'm always happy to find good dirt to make a nice ditch in. All to often here I'm pulling rock and blowing the ditch out anyway. Nice work Frank.
Thanks Jared!!!
I see that title and I thought what must be some kind of mistake but discovered a lesson. Thanks for sharing Frank top notch work as usual 👍🏻
Thanks!
What's that dirt doing in Boss Kean's ditch?
I don’t know boss!
@@Digginok all jokes aside, I appreciate You and your Father.

This was in Midwest City. Can't remember the school name though.

Thanks!!!
Good stuff Frank. you end up with a nice cut and its easier on the machine.
Exactly!!! Thanks for watching!

Digging around the caps pails
How many years of experience you have got for this job
Been in business for myself since 1999. Dug my first footing in 1992.
Do you lay out your footings ? That is the thing I have the most trouble with.
No the companies I work for do the layout.
I wish God to bless you healthily to continue your work!
Thank you!

That’s kinda what happens around here too. Backfilling with sand makes it easy to clean out. These were done about 3 days before I dug the footing.
Thank you for that little lesson Frank. My son says you could carve Mt Rushmore with your backhoe! #MBGA!.
Tell him thanks!!! And you’re welcome!

Frank, Did you take down the last welding vid? I didn't get to see it yet. Or maybe it was an old one pop up in my one list.
No it’s still up.
@@Digginok The one I saw popped up again in my list. It actually was an older one of you fixing the chiselplow. All caught up now. Later
Hard to beat a backhoe. Digs holes, and cleans up after itself. For sure not a claim many other machines can make.
Ya got a good point there! 👍👌#MBGA!
love your videos. I would like to get one of your caps, please post the link if you have a store.

Yeah he looked at me kinda funny! I was trying to keep the pile from falling into the ditch.
I’m glad I showed you how to dig the proper way
You actually showed me the improper way! Thank you!
I thought that part of the video was just for you and maybe Brandon. The fact that you took the exception proves that it does pertain to you
I tell my students don't be a bottom digger. For sure technique is very important!
You’re teaching them right! They are lucky to have you.
Frank your digging technique is outdated like your backhoe. Just doesn't work anymore. LOL good video
Not sure I understand what you mean? Do you know a better method? Let’s see it!
Come on man I’d like to see a better way! I know I’m a caveman!!! Lol
ya got me! Lol
B S dang, the gloves almost came off! Don’t let him intimidate you, he’s not that tough
I don't want to make frank mad. He knows how to dig deep holes. LOL Have you dug any graves?

Everyone should dig footings the DigginOK way! #MBGA
Thanks!!!
