Good job and thanks for posting. Most of the youtube videos on this topic are people digging out little stumps. It's nice to see someone up to the challenge of taking on a big one and "winning". I'm currently about 6 hours into a huge stump removal with my little BH77 and getting close to victory. Your video gave me the encouragement I needed to keep going.

Thanks for watching! It is very amusing reading the comments pointing out how bad the "operator" is, so I appreciate someone realizing the machine is the intended focus of this video.

The JD 410 is a great machine. I laughed a little because you got dragged around by the powerful scoop, but you really did pull a BEAST of a stump! I haven't pulled one this big yet. As previously commented, lift all tires off the ground for maximum backhoe stability. You sometimes have to do some ugly turf damage to do big work. It just gets worse when you don't set the machine firmly. There is usually shovel and rake cleanup when you work this big.
My two cents are in descending order:
#2. Care for the machine. Service all grease points after every dirty job. Fresh grease pushes out grit. The steel joints will grind away much faster if these are neglected. One joint requires that you extend the backhoe boom to reach it. Check the oil level before every start so you know exactly what it should be. Too low is bad of course but too high could be a bad gasket allowing coolant into the oil. It could mean severe engine damage. Check the hydraulic oil and coolant as well. They say an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. In this case it is preventing the machine from becoming 14 thousand pounds of scrap iron. Whatever a pound of cure costs, this machine needs thousands of pounds at a time. prevention is best.
#1. Safety! Care for YOU and OTHERS! For perspective on how much labor this machine saves, imagine filling the front loader bucket with loose dirt with a shovel. It will take hours! The machine can do it in seconds. Put that same energy into walking around and getting into the operator seat and looking all around the machine before doing anything. Please do not operate heavy equipment from outside the cab. I hate saying gruesome things but both yellow and green John Deere tractors have crushed both lazy operators and curious adult and child bystanders from operation outside the operator position. Don't do it. please!
Maybe you have realized this already. I say this for the benefit of every learning viewer.
Please, do not operate heavy equipment out of the operator's seat.

put your bucket and outriggers down. the machine should be off the ground when you dig.

Need more horse power. Maybe you should get a couple of horses to pull the machine next time...:-)
Good job on that, was interesting to watch. I used to watch JCB front loaders and backhoes working in my neighbourhood as a kid.

No way does the camera do the magnitude of that stump justice!
I've had a couple like that where you gotta' slide them on the ground to transport haha.

Put legs down so wheels are off the ground. Put loader bucket down to lift front off the ground and machine will be anchored better.

Agreed! I suggest nobody watches it, honestly. However I'm sure you could have been far more effective with a 50 year old backhoe and a 5k lb stump. You could probably have done it faster with a shovel if I had to guess!

Just a guy that saved an old, non-functional backhoe from the scrapyard, and use it as required on my own little piece of land. I think it's pretty obvious from the description that nothing about this video is connected to how I make a living.
