I cannot believe that this treasure of a city, cradle to so many cultures is completely destroyed. My heart is hurting so bad.
The spirit of this city is not destructible though. People will rise, dust off their shoulders and this city will be rebuilt, just as the spirit that every resident carries inside of them will rise. We cannot allow for this gem to disappear in history books. Pray for Antakya, Hatay and for the people of all provinces affected by this devastating quake 🙏🏼

After hearing the news of what happened in Antakya, it broke my heart. I visited there last May, in an Erasmus project + I lived with a Turkish family, and got to taste so many dishes that I had not tried before (Before that, I never knew that the whole province of Hatay was a gastronomical capital/region). The people were friendly, warm, charming, caring, and very welcoming. When the earthquake happened, I asked my Turkish friends if they are fine (together with their families), and most of them were fine. They moved to different cities like Mersin or Ankara. As a Lithuanian, I wish all Turkish people to stay strong and safe, especially the ones who live in Antakya.

Girdiğin her dükkanda Atatürk resmini görebilirsin. %5 ise Ermeni, Yahudi ve Kürt vardır. Kürtlerin tamamı sonradan göç etmiştir.

#It's a magnificent , vibrant city with lot of history of amalgamation of cultures with people of different religions living in harmony.
But it's so sad that the city has been reduced to rubble. Don't how much the city has survived because Hatay province and Antakya city are the worst effected in the series of earth quakes that caused untold misery and immense loss to Turkey and it's people.
I plan to visit this place once the reconstruction is completed.

Ezelden beridir bu memleket onlarca medeniyetlere ev sahipliği yapmıştır. Antakya bir kültür mozaiğidir. Doğu ile batının sentezidir. Bulunduğu coğrafi konumdan dolayı her zaman önemli bir yere değerler bütününe sahip olmuştur. Hititlerden Romalılara Hellenizm den günümüze daha niceleri.B. İskender in i ismini vermeye layık gördüğü 3 kentten biridir. Antakya ismiyse yine B İskender in komutanlarından Selevkos un babasının ismini vermeye layık gördüğü muazzam şehirdir.

Hello, Mr. Scarsbrook; I'm happy to hear that you are now travelling in my hometown. Nowadays it's hard to see any tourists here, mostly because of the pandemic. I remember that dozens of tourists would visit Harbiye Waterfalls when I was a child. But then, tourism became worse. So, you could understand the feeling one gets when a respectful foreigner walks along the streets of one's city and tells the hidden and great history of it. Anyways; I would gladly help you if you need any help, and if you consider to come to harbiye/defne, i would like to meet you. Have fun!
