@reubenmanzo2054 It is illegal to fire someone solely for being pregnant, but if an employer finds out that you're pregnant and decides that you're a 'liability' then they could come up with some other reason to fire you that they would've never reported before. Basically, they can pretend it's for a different reason and get away with it, which is why it is important to have evidence of when you announced your pregnancy so that you would have evidence in case you need to sue them for pregnancy discrimination.
This comment makes no sense? Like you're dumb and don't believe in maternity leave that allows mother/baby to bond while dealing with recovery and bleeding out of their vaginas for the next month/month and a half, or....? Not sure how it's a joke. You push a baby out and then deal with smelly shit coming out of you for 6 weeks while you get no sleep and then tell me you don't want some time off work. The bad joke is that over 120 countries offer some form of paid parental leave, while the US sits in a *very* small list of countries with no mandate. Makes the leave seems more universal than "American" to me.

Then came to work with an unhealed cesarian. I think they only gave her two weeks of weak pain medicine too, so she only had ibuprofen to take once she got there. There's a whole opioid epidemic where I live, so, anyone who actually needs pain meds can't get them. You only get them if you're on hospice.

Why even have kids?? It's crazy to me the amount of people who will short change their children, giving formula, passing it off to others, why even have a child at all?? They're not meant to be just an expense. If I worked, I wouldn't have children at all, it isn't fair to them.
Nope. And teachers and healthcare workers? They're often bullied into coming back in roughly 2 weeks. To jobs where they could be killed, as in a higher percentage of likelihood, and have very, very limited options and time to pump if they're breastfeeding. It's a shit show.

In my country (yeah, Europe, Czechia) almost every mother stays home for two years, but you can stretch the parental leave up to almost 4 years, but not many do it for that long. And then at 3 y.o. the child goes to free kindergarten. In Germany you get FULLY paid time off six weeks before your due date and eight weeks after your birth. You are legally NOT ALLOWED TO WORK until your kid is 2 months old! Unfortunately, this makes telling your boss even harder in my experience.😢
You should not hesitate to tell your boss that you're pregnant in Germany. As soon as the company knows, you can no longer be fired and are exempt from some more dangerous fields of work. Some bad employers may fire you before you make your pregnancy official if they find out before, so better be quick about it.

Don’t forget that depending on what your specific job duties are, you may need to tell them as soon as you find out in order to be reassigned to duties that are safe to perform while pregnant.
If you're in an especially toxic environment, I highly recommend getting the leave squared away with HR first, and then notifying your boss. Even though your boss can't block the leave, the last thing you want when your pregnant is to argue anything about anything lol

I told them and didn't even get an acknowledgement email from hr for 2.5 weeks. They then told me they couldn't find work for me and ended my contract prematurely. Since I wasn't officially hired on as a full time worker they were able to let me go without consequence.

When it was time for chemo, I gave them ample notice so they could make sure that my position/duties was/is covered. , when I had to go on disability leave, my boss sent me groceries and when my boss’ boss called me into her office she said that she would not accept my resignation and that they would have my back every step of the way. Far cry from other employers who aren’t as professional. ❤
God, this is just heartbreaking 🥺 in Russia you have 2 months before due date paid, then you get good money for those 2 months and another month after you give birth, after that you get paid parental leave for 1,5 years (yeah, the money is not big, but it’s enough, especially if your partner is working too), and then you can stay with your child till he/she is 3yo, and the employer have to keep your job for you, so when you decide to come back you’ll definitely have your job. The pay is covered by employer and the government combined. And also with any child you get paid great amount of money from the government just cause you had a baby, that money can be used either for mortgage or kid’s education. Parental leave can be taken by anyone in the family, mother, father or even a grandparent. And also it’s impossible to fire a pregnant woman even if they didn’t know you’re pregnant. And it’s impossible to fire someone on a parental leave. Just don’t understand why US doesn’t help people to make more tax payers😄

Can you do a video on what to do if you get fired for a different “reason” as soon as you tell them you’re pregnant? I personally know several women who lost their jobs as soon as they told their boss they were pregnant for some made up reason. Whether in office max or a desk job or a restaurant where they all could’ve easily made accommodations
The reason maternity leave is so short in the US is that if we did get a year there would be even more rampant discrimination against women of child bearing age than there is now. You'd have to change the entire American mindest about work rather than just a few laws and policies
Oh man. I'm so sorry this is a thing in America. Guaranteed parental leave should be a thing in a country with so much money. Allowing people time to care for their babies won't ruin your country, promise!

I'm currently struggling with my employer due to hot working conditions and having my maternity leave reduced! They told me that even if I go on maternity leave for my last month of pregnancy and have my baby on week 5 I'd still be requested to work a week later as I only get 6 weeks of leave :(. I've also been told " I have to understand my symptoms do not just come from the heat" when explaining that the working conditions are having a negative effect on me. I'm currently in my third trimester and cannot tolerate the 85 plus environment I work in like I used to. I'm worried I'm not being taken seriously because of my age and I'm not sure who to go to about this issue. 😢
I told my bosses as soon as I found out so that way if I had morning sickness or other issues they would know what was going on. And if the unthinkable would of happened (a miscarriage), then I would of been able to take the time off I needed to recuperate physically and mentally with their support instead of trying to explain it after the fact.
I told my boss at around 9 weeks because I was experiencing morning sickness and he'd historically been a great advocate in the workplace for me so I trusted him. My company allows for bereavement leave for pregnancy losses so I felt comfortable sharing for that reason too. I didn't tell HR until about 20 weeks though because most of my colleagues waited until about that time to share. Their reasoning was that sharing HR was mostly just for planning timelines for parental leave since we get a pretty decent package for U.S. standards (12 weeks full pay + 6 weeks at 75% pay if I recall correctly) and we're allowed to take the leave anytime within 12 months after birth or adoption though most take leave right after the birth or adoption.
A few things: I would mention it right away to your boss or whoever is accommodating you. Sickness can happen at any time and you want the options ahead of time. I was able to WFH on days I was really sick. Also, if you have questionable working conditions (working with harsh chemicals, heavy lifting, etc) you'll want to stop doing those immediately to keep you and baby safe. Most importantly, advocate for yourself. Ask your doctor for advise or even notes for work so they have to accommodate according to doctor's orders. If you feel uncomfortable consult HR or anyone else who has been through it before.
In my years working for 3 different school districts i learned one thing. Teachers time their pregnancy to either miss the last 2 months or the first 2 months of the school year. Of all the teachers who were pregnant i never saw one that had a baby over the summer break!!!
In the US you get 3 months of job protection. There's no law that it has to be paid so it is unpaid for most. And it starts when you take off (so if you take off 2 week before due date then you get 2 months and 2 weeks to heal and for baby bonding). Accommodations can be made, but some professions can't really accommodate you due to the nature of the job. So I'm 38 weeks pregnant working 12 hour shift in the ICU until I give birth. 🙃
I told my boss almost immediately. I had a physical job and felt horrible in the first trimester. I wanted to tell them so I could get accomodations (like not lifting heavy things and getting extra breaks when it was ridiculously hot) and they were so great about making me comfortable.

Where does that money come from?
@@johnp139 from everyone as it should be. ✌
Anyone who has gone through this feel free to leave tips below! ❤
A few things:
I would mention it right away to your boss or whoever is accommodating you.
@@CarlaM14if you are too WEAK to work after having a kid, WHY SHOULD OTHER PEOPLE HAVE TO PAY FOR YOU?!?!!
In my years working for 3 different school districts i learned one thing. Teachers time their pregnancy to either miss the last 2 months or the first 2 months of the school year. Of all the teachers who were pregnant i never saw one that had a baby over the summer break!!!
There were teachers that gave birth during the summer. They just didn't annoy you, so you didn't notice.
One month? In Sweden we're guaranteed 480 days per child.
It's surprising how often "Tell, don't ask" is such good advice.
Congrats and good luck!!❤🎉
A month of maternity leave... That's unrealistic, unless they can work at home.
Why?
I told my boss almost immediately. I had a physical job and felt horrible in the first trimester. I wanted to tell them so I could get accomodations (like not lifting heavy things and getting extra breaks when it was ridiculously hot) and they were so great about making me comfortable.

@@johnp139but the woman in most European countries continue to receive salary while on maternity leave. She is able to survive even with high taxes while woman in US will go back to an average job, not quite healed and maybe still bleeding, with high cost of living and high hospital bills to pay. What about that?
this is great! but unless you have a really really awesome boss who you have complete faith in, make sure you also notify i them in writing (like an email) in case of retaliation.
Her voice is so sweet and uplifting ! 🤗🤗
I trusted a single coworker before I told my boss/anyone else and she spread it like wildfire. This is such an awesome way to break this news and will definitely be my roadmap when I have my next
In some work fields you are REQUIRED to let your boss know immedeatly bc the workplace has rules that make you have to stop working immedeatly or sooner than your maternal leave, also for example in the medical field they need to know so they can take certain precautions
Only 2 months of maternity leave 😭💀
I knew someone that only had 2 weeks😢
Don't forget to also do it in writing like and email and keep a copy incase they fire you in retaliation
A woman is shredded down there from birth, with a newborn on her hands and has to go to work one MONTH after? Insane
*is confused in 3 years of paid maternity leave*
Europe?
@@Mysterious-Nightyes but to be honest countries in Asia and Oceania also offer that, hell even Afghanistan offers some kind of leave
Do you guys only take a month of mat leave??😱 I'm in Canada and we get at least 52 weeks paid, but it can be more if need be! And it can be split between parents in whatever way the parents decide! How do you heal/ breast feed/ bond / see all of the firsts if it's only a month off? I'm flabbergasted 😱.
Sad isn't it. A lot of moms end up the formula route.
That’s why your taxes are so high!!!!!
@@johnp139 nah, my taxes aren't too bad! Over all, mid- high income Canadians pay about $100- 150/ month for over all health care each year in April! For students / low income earners they don't pay for Healthcare through taxes! We have a system called MCP, and we all get a card to show at the hospital/ doctor's office etc and we are covered! I'm back in school now, in my 30s, and I got money back this past April!
Edit: We can also get service at any hospital/ doctor across the country by showing them our MCP card
@@allie.purpleWe also get child tax based on income and we pay for our parental leave when we pay into employment insurance out of each paycheque when working.
@@joelee624 yup. I don't know what taxes are like elsewhere but my husband is being taxed 31% of his check. I'm not complaining so much as just voicing that it's true that it is paid for. Someone somewhere has to pay for it. Nothing is free.
yep. this is what i did. it helped that my boss told me his wife was also pregnant when i told him and then my other managers wife was also pregnant, and my coworkers wife had just given birth a few months before
I’m informing you 3 months before i give birth. I don’t need my aptitudes to be questioned more than it should be just because you found out I’m pregnant. 2 months is more than enough to get my task delegated appropriately maternity/ paternity leave is 16 to 18 weeks now . Will take 4 weeks before delivery and 14 weeks after delivery.
Don't forget to mention the high maternal death rate in the US compared to other developed countries because of Conservative policies.
Not consistent among all demographics. Just like violent crime.
@@jfkst1 are you blaming the death rate on the mothers?
@@Alacritous
Not exclusively. More on the low IQ of black and brown people than anything else.
Pretty sure there are no conservative policies requiring American hospitals to be decades behind following modern medical advice. In America women are still told things like they should push on their back and not eat while in labor. Modern medical systems most everywhere else stopped doing that forever ago.
Also doesn’t explain why European countries like Poland, which are way more conservative than America, also have lower maternal death rates.
@@raquelfantoni2812thank you voice of reason!
October 23rd!!!! Jesus Christ, do Americans ever live in a dystopian nightmare.
No, it’s a capitalist economy. We don’t pay for others to not do their jobs.
Yes mammer jammers!!!!!!!!!!! 😃 😊 💕 💞
Thank you so much for putting so much effort into helping all of us rise.
We can have more time with loved ones and take better care of our families with pay closer to a living wage ❤️
Make sure to put it in writing! They can fire you and claim they didn't know you were pregnant if you try to sue for discrimination.
Yeah, if you're in the U.S... Good for you if you can afford 2 months off of work. Employers are legally obligated to protect your job for this span of time, but you'll be lucky if you actually get paid. My company just sent a notification out to employees bragging about a two week maternity leave policy. It takes 6 weeks for a woman's body to even heal after birth.
I feel bad for US-Americans sometimes.
I feel bad for socialist countries because of the high taxes they pay.
@@johnp139 I feel good about paying high taxes that I actually benefit from. I feel good not being afraid to call an ambulance or get necessary medical treatment. I feel good about having workers rights.
That mindless patriotism will get you nowhere.
Especially if you get ill or have a bad accident that will eat up your savings in literal months.
The US government is letting their citizens down, and they don't even see it.
I don't claim to live in the perfect society, to have a perfect government and perfect laws, but it's sure as hell way better than the USA.
This is so helpful but also I had to rewind the video when she said leaving august 29 and returning in October the same year😅😮
WRITE IT DOWN
Employers are notorious for firing pregnant people. Make sure you send it in writing too to make sure you've got your paper trail just in case
Wow only 70% and not even at least 6 months to have with your baby? That's crazy 😢
You can take more time off, but why should others have to pay for it?
So you are taking 2 months of maternity leave? My God, America is wierd
Why? People in the US are responsible for taking care of themselves, not everyone else.
Me, a 15 year old boy who isn't even in college yet: interesting 🤔🤔
Only 2 months of leave for a baby??? US has fucked up
I love the positivity!!
Ha! I had to spill barely into my first trimester cause I was throwing up water!
Here in Australia you get 1 year of paid maternity leave…I can’t believe that you get 1 MONTH in the US
That’s crazy
In the US, you get FMLA leave, which means you can take up to 12 weeks without them being able to replace/fire you. However, to qualify, you have to be with an employer for a certain amount of time, and that time may or may not be paid.
Where does that money come from?
In the EU, its see you in 6months minimum and usually have hire a contractor to cover the tasks/responsibilities
My mom had to quit her job as soon as she got pregnant, which she found out she was pregnant on week 12, which was because her first pregnancy was quadruplets, which I was one of them, my mom had to quit and couldn’t do a 2 week notice cuz she had to go on bed rest, and she didn’t start working again until I was going into Kindergarten and my younger sister was going into Preschool, I highly doubt that even if she was able to get maternity leave, she wouldn’t be able to get it with the first pregnancy specifically cuz she had to stay in bed, so my dad was the only one working until I was going into Kindergarten and my younger sister was going into Preschool
