Fun fact: Captured Tracks, the indie record label that made the careers of Mac DeMarco and Beach Fossils, reissued this album and considered The Wake one of the "influential British artists."
Boy In Depth sure know how to pick them! Old favorite of mine and luckily it's here 'cos I lost my CD version of this. That's Bobby Gillespie of Jesus and Mary Chain and Primal Scream on bass.
This one's not bad, but I think they were still trying to find their voice at this point. They found it on "Here Comes Everybody," though, a gorgeously atmospheric record that never really seems to age.
wonderful album, yet nothing is 'rated' (?) people keep saying under-rated or over-rated. There is no ratings. You either relate to something or you don't. it isn't a competition
I never heard the band before - I guess one cannot know everything. But they sound to me a bit more like early Legendary Pink Dots more than Joy Division/New Order.
The Wickipdia listing says they were 'unfairly compared to New Order' Well, maybe try to to sound like them and don't make your album covers look like them either
+Lee Johnson I was just clicking around different artists on youtube and just came here. I was puzzled by what I felt was a very similar album cover to new order. I listened to a few tracks and thought they sounded quite similar. I looked on wikipedia because I'd never heard of them and saw the line about being 'unfairly compared to new order' which I thought was a bit odd because, to my ears, there were similarities. I'm not a fan of either if I'm honest (to which you'll probably ask why the hell I'm here then) Just an opinion and my point of view. If Oasis said they felt unfairly compared to the Beatles most people would be puzzled and I was puzzled about The Wake feeling the new order comparison was unfair
lastoftheurgents1965 aha I see where you are coming from, They did Tour with New Order in The 80's.Whether that had a factor with The Wake's sound I am not sure, I think it's the Guitars that sound similar but not much else. Each to their own eh what kinmd of stuff are you into/Listening to at the moment?
+Lee Johnson Mostly Bowie at the moment just to remind myself how much I loved his stuff but using youtube to explore around and see if there are any bands I might have missed out on. Still looking for something to make me go 'how the hell did I miss out on this lot?'

Hm, I dunno. Pretty hugely derivative of the late Joy Division sound. Influence is A-OK by me but this band doesn't really add much to what they borrow from JD.
Man, this is a gem lost in time, there is so much good material from that time that it seems forgotten
Listening to this for the first time in years. Good band. Nice people too. I worked with them in designing the album cover, good times.
@@antonoko Think he was mentioned in the credits.
I have fallen in love with the first song just as soon as it started. Thanks for uploading this.
if you are greek, I'm happy to see another greek loving the Wake. we are few. LOL
@@akis723 Hey ... does Film still exist ? Excellent Greek band !
man, if I could have one wish it would be to be able to go back in time to UK 1978-1984 and explore the music scene.
Nacht Schreck the best years
Do now
Thanks heavens for TH-cam then, you can listen to it all now!
It's your day I have a time machine. !
Still got this on vinyl. Fantastic!!

Yes, yes, yes ...
Harmony - the Wake.
I was looking for this. I can be considered old, it is from my youth.
Forgot äbout them since 80s ,how could i!!
Woke up from a nightmare to this song ready to go. It was so fitting
Good album, I especially enjoy the loud organic percussion sound 🎶👍
Very similar sound to for against, one of the only American bands I like.
Absolutely special. Loved it!

Great album.
They are criminally underrated.Shame.

@@Preliminimal No, there is an official and 'unofficial' "rating system".
that's when they are worth it.

Discaço absoluto do "Wake".
Patrol has a similar melody lke "Ricky's Hand" by Fad Gadget. Good album as i've just discovered the band.
fad gadget was condescending and apathetic toward the new wave music, he was mocking it.
can't stand fad gadget
caesar....genius....record since ´82 in my own....like the " factory " sound...
Same name band of the Wake (US)???🤷♂️
Yeah got me confused at first. I've bought recordings by both bands.
@@Martin-rs8qz this group is awesome too!
I never heard the band before - I guess one cannot know everything. But they sound to me a bit more like early Legendary Pink Dots more than Joy Division/New Order.
Actually there seems to be a bit of 70s power-pop on much of this. Not just a post-punk record really.
they don't need to sound like anyone. listen to each band for who they are.
This album is amazing I'm so glad I found them
I agree
This is a bad opinion and you should feel bad. The Wake and New Order are both fantastic bands.
@@Kyouko1269 wtf
@@marihell4296 This comment was edited, it used to say The Wake make New Order look bad. Not true. Both great bands.

why compare either to each other. they are different experiences and expressions of human life. it isn't some competition

Good, but not as good as Joy Division.
