This was just what I was looking for. I looked for the video of the rest of him but couldn't find it yet. I am eagerly awaiting it because I have an entire nativity to restore and most videos are about the simpler creatures. Thank you so much!
If they are lit from inside then the brush strokes will show, plus the paint is thicker and will not allow as much light through. If you use a floodlight to illuminate them they will look ok, but anything close will also be lit up.
Thank you so much for making these videos! We have several blow molds we just love but definitely need a refreshed paint job. Your videos are so helpful. You’re giving me the courage to try my hand at this so we can display them again. Thanks again so much! I’m a big fan and a new subscriber!
Thanks for doing this video! I'm in the process of trying to repaint our blow molds and I'm struggling quite a bit. My husband bought an airbrush but I can't seem to find a color that's good for the skin tone. I just stripped and repainted our Joseph and he ended up looking like he had liver failure with a neon pink outfit. I did use a black acrylic paint marker for his eyelid line and the turned out to be my favorite part. Please keep sharing all of your videos on repainting them and such. I definitely watch them. I've been looking for months for someone else that's trying to repaint them.
Thank you. I use peach transparent color by Createx for the skin tone. I do it with an airbrush, but I only do small areas with it. The paint does not adhere as well, and the slightest contact with anything else will knock it off. When using the peach, I add a little white to it, then hold the airbrush at least 10-12 inches away and go side to side past each side of the mold before reversing. With acrylics, they will not let light through so keep that in mind. Good luck with your projects. ( I have not found a good shade of pink spray paint for Joseph. They all seem to dry very light pink unless you put it on heavy, which doesn’t let enough light through.)
I have used an airbrush on a couple, but the paint does not seem to adhere to the plastic very well. The slightest contact with anything and it comes on. (Createx transparent paint) the spray paint seems to take abuse much better. I do use an airbrush for the faces, using createx transparent peach. Glad to help.

I have not had time to finish him yet. I probably will not get to any painting for a couple of months. Winter has finally arrived in northeast Texas 😕
Is it possible to get a good look painting them with acrylic and brushes? Or does it have to be spray paint?

You are very welcome. Thank you for watching and your kind words.

Sir may i ask what do you use to strip the blow molds?
I use Citristrip gel. Just brush it on, wait a few minutes, scrub it, and rinse it off. You can get it at Lowes or Home Depot.
Do you use a air brush on anything or just the spray cans. Thank you for the information. I am learning a lot from your videos
