The Ed Sullivan line comes from the fact that Elvis' dance moves were controversial for the time so they only showed him from the waist up on the show. Elvis was known as the King of Rock and Roll who of course is battling the King of Pop. The show you're looking for is The Facts of Life. I can't wait for more ERB reactions!

What’s funny is that in real life, the real Michael had mad respect for Elvis and was a big fan. Elvis even respected little Michael and gave him and his family a shoutout when they went to see him in Vegas. Elvis was dead before Michael was grown. Also, yes, he gave credit to black artists on numerous occasions, and many of them respected and loved him.

not to mention that the singing group, "Sweet inspirations", a quartet of extremely talented black women that had been performing around las vegas became his backup singers, and he often defended them from bigots at different venues. in one instance he was told he couldn't bring them and he threatened to back out of the gig saying if they don't come, i don't come. he even ended up getting the guy's own daughter to give them a tour. lol

@garrettmiles3644: 1. It is true that Michael Jackson was always jealous of Elvis Presley. Michael Jackson himself once said on camera: "Why does everyone say Elvis Presley is the king, but no one says king to me"!? 2. It is true that Elvis Presley had many, many, many friends among the black population. Elvis always spoke well about black culture. There are countless statements from black artists, mining rights activists, politicians, etc. who met Elvis personally and only say good things about Elvis Presley. When Elvis died, it was James Brown who held Elvis' hand before the coffin lid was closed. james brown: "I wasn't just a fan of Elvis Presley, he was my brother"!

@@RaptorNX01 What you wrote was not with the "Sweet Inspirations", who were not officially signed by Elvis until 1970 (Elvis Presley was the first white artist to sign a black musical group). The experience you write about was in the 50s, where Elvis was performing and they didn't want to let a black friend of Elvis into the stadium. Elvis Presley said to the organizer: "If my friend isn't allowed into the stadium, then I won't give a concert today"! Elvis was an angel!

Yes he did. FACT: The music business was racist. ELVIS FOUGHT THAT.
      1. Elvis NEVER stole a song.
      2. HE DEMANDED that black songwriters got paid. Elvis paid royalties to each songwriter, based off of HIS OWN sales. ALL Elvis' songwriters were paid, including black songwriters (Otis Blackwell's family stated that ELVIS BOOSTED Otis' fledgling career and he was even able to tour again with song royalties.)
FACT: Elvis opened up THREE NEW REVENUE STREAMS FOR BLACK SONGWRITERS.
      1. Song Rights.
      2. Royalty checks based on Elvis' own sales.
      3. Black artists' OWN RECORD SALES would skyrocket when Elvis covered their song because ELVIS CREDITED EACH SONGWRITER ON HIS ALBUMS, no exceptions.
So many Elvis fans would buy the original album or the 45 single of the original artist as well.
FACT: Black songwriters SOLD SONG RIGHTS TO ELVIS - SO THIS IS A BIG MISUNDERSTANDING in the black community today. The truth is that Elvis Presley is credited for tearing down walls of racism in the music business. Not by words and interviews but BY ACTIONS. There is also proof that Elvis fought for the Sweet Inspirations, his black female singers that were barred in clubs and stadiums down south. Elvis would REFUSE to play unless they would be allowed to accompany him AND BE TREATED WITH THE SAME DIGNITY AND RESPECT that he received. This ENDED those "colored only" entrances around the south. So Presley was actually quite the REBEL.

One thing you should watch for in ERB videos is the capitalization of unexpected words in their lyric captions. Whenever this happens, it is because they are referencing something. It could be a person, a song, a book, a movie, or just about anything.
Often, unless you already know, this is the only clue you get that some particular lyric has a double meaning.

3- Sadly, both of them have passed on before their respective times. :(

Elvis would REFUSE to play unless they would be allowed to accompany him AND BE TREATED WITH THE SAME DIGNITY AND RESPECT that he received. This ENDED those "colored only" entrances around the south. So Presley was actually quite the REBEL.
FACT: Rock music IS NOT Black MUsic. Rock is mainly made up of Country (mostly white artists), Gospel (many white and black churches and artists) and the Blues (mostly black artists). Lets add to that the legendary song writers (such as Leiber and Stoller). Lets also add European, Asian, Middle East and African cultures where many music instruments were invented. That's where rock and roll sprang from. Elvis Presley is the only musician inducted into the Gospel, R&B, Country and Rock Halls of Fame.
FACT: Elvis Presley was singing in the 1940s in black and white churches down south during segregation in the Great Depression, putting together new sounds, before Chuck Berry and Little Richard ever cut a record in the 1950s. ELVIS MERGED THE BLUES AND ROCKABILLY AND GOSPEL and gave it a sound and stage presentation. NOBODY LOOKED OR SOUNDED LIKE HIM…. He was absolutely one of its pioneers and he engineered a very creative style that’s inspired everyone in the business one way or another. Elvis gave credit to many in the black community. Arthur Cruddup, Mahelia Jackson, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, James Brown, Fats Domino. And they ALL sang their music FOR THE SAME REASON: TO BRING PEOPLE TOGETHER.
FACT: Elvis' viewpoint coming from dirt poverty was profound. His twin brother was stillborn and buried in a shoebox. His home was a shotgun shack with no electricity or running water. That was his humble beginnings. He grew up in two legendary neighborhoods Shakerag in Mississippi and Beale Street in Memphis Tennessee. Elvis came from gospel and country and knew as many blues songs as BB King (BB said that!) and they were great friends as you saw in the movie. That’s the holy trinity of rock ‘n’ roll. So Elvis was absolutely a pioneer as he was singing before Little Richard and Chuck Berry cut their first record.
FACT: Little Richard exposed the truth about Elvis about this very topic. "Elvis made my song TUTTI FRUITI bigger, and made ME BIGGER" and he said THIS: “I thank God for Elvis Presley. I thank the Lord for sending Elvis to open the door so I could walk down the road...” - Little Richard. Elvis paid his black songwriters very well. And that is THE TRUTH.
FACT: Elvis was different, and his perspective was different than most white people of his day, especially among other whites in the South. Elvis grew up in the poorest parts of the South during the Great Depression and Segregation. And he understood the very lowest depths of poverty. Only 4 white families on his block, he lived and played with black children while living in a 1 room shotgun shack without running water and without electricity. His father built the home with a borrowed $150, then lost it because they couldn't afford to pay it back. How poor was Elvis? His twin brother Jesse Garon Presley was still born about 30 minutes before Elvis... and were so poor that they couldn't afford a coffin, so Jesse had to be buried in a shoebox. He was laid to rest in Priceville Memorial Gardens in Tupelo. A SHOE BOX.

That's why they're the best, because they have eclectic taste. MJ took from everyone, including Elvis, Tears for Fears and especially Fred Astaire. If you don't believe me, watch the film Bandwagon . . .again, there is a video on you tube. All the cool kids do it. 😂

Ed Sullivan was a variety show host. When Elvis played on his show, Sullivan was uncomfortable with how Elvis gyrated his hips during his performance so Sullivan made sure the camera on shot him "from the waist up".

Anything MJ did Elvis already done it. Even down to that so called moon walk...MJ called himself the king of. Pop and people followed...the people called Elvis king which he never wanted to be called that.. MJ
Wanted to be Elvis the. He wanted to be Diana Ross.. it's good to see young people discovering Elvis.. but I wouldn't put MJ in the same sentence as Elvis....Elvis sang all types of music..MJ didn't...i can go on

Elvis had one relationship with Priscilla who was underage, he wasn't having sleepover parties with numerous kids while sending the parents to hotel rooms. Elvis had various relationships with women his own age, which Michael can't make many claims too, Ironically one was with Elvis's daughter.

Just want to make you aware that Elvis saw Priscilla at 14 but one it was different times back then that alot of people married at 16 including my mum, but the main fact is Priscilla has said many times on her wedding night 8 years later she was still a virgin which would have put her at 21 nearly 22, so plz just remember that fact. Both were the best for their era and let's leave it as that.
