Hi, I am actually the export manager from Yuantide and thank you for conducting this research! Just want to add that peptone can be affordable when you purchase in bulk. Ours is currently the cheapest on Amazon based on my knowledge but even then Amazon and shipping takes the bulking of the revenue. So if the yields is truly higher, it can be economical to purchase a bulk order from us and ask us to ship directly from our factory in China. Feel free to ask me any questions you may have regarding peptone:)
The cheapest way would be ordering from Amazon unfortunately due to the low order quantity. If you can order over a few KGs, we can arrange a shipment directly from overseas warehouse, cutting the price by ~35%. Storage wise, keep them in dry/cold environment and you should be fine. Add a bag of Desiccant will also do some tricks to avoid clumping!@@nunyabizz50
I lov Ur Videos. The hwfp tek is a gamechanger for my Routine of preparing spawning Blocks. I additionaly put 4% Calciumhydroxite to each of my Bags. Had great Results so far with this pasturation Combi.
Love the experimentation! I've wondered the same thing about peptone in sub. I wonder how it would influence longer-colonizing species like chestnut or long fruiting species like reishi.
Want to add this comment here for any new growers. So, i successfully was able to use pasteurized 70/30 hwfp to soy hull pellets. I poured boiling water to the bag and stacked them into a big tote lined with a thick quilt and let them cook 12+hrs. When you add in your spawn and mix, you have to make sure the hwfp and soy hulls mix really well, if not youll get large areas of soy hulls that will go bacterial before the mycelium can colonize. Would recommend only for oysters or something that colonizes aggressively
Thanks for posting, I've had some other people mention a similar process doing a long 12 hour cook in a cooler to maintain the heat. I'm thinking the key is the prolonged cook for pasteurizing 70/30 MM.
@@RenegadeMushrooms i definitely agree. But you do have to make sure you mix the soy hulls in really well. ATM I've got pinks and princess pearl that I'm about to put to fruiting
New to mushrooms and I really like and appreciate your videos. I am having a terrible time getting my grain spawn to grow. Every batch is contaminated(10). I wash hands, glove and mask up, 70% alcohol hands, jars, surfaces, flame needle then wipe with completely soaked paper towl in alcohol. Not sure what else I can do. I am using rye berries and after 4hrs drying they are not Moises to the touch. After I use PC I can see moisture in jars. Dried again and did PC 2nd time and still a little moisture on glass jar. I even turned off house ac 30 min prior to inoculation. Ideas? Thank you for your time! Brian
i dont see a reply here but it sounds like the batch of lc is contaminated and you should grow it out on agar to clean it up. then start a new batch. ive heard contaminated syringes are pretty common.
Found some wild colorado oyster mushrooms on my second forage so exciting. Was able to collect some specimens. Would like to share the genetics what is the best route?
What a great video again.. I was wondering if you could used other supplement different than soy peptone? I think once you had written in a post-it note that nutritional yeast was prone to contamination, and soy peptone is really expensive at least in my country (500gr around $74 US bucks).. maybe you can help me.. thank you for these videos, are really helping me as a newbie mushroom grower
Nutritional yeast did increase my contamination rates with my rice based Cordyceps substrate, but I've never tried it with sawdust. Might be an interesting experiment if it's more affordable.
Thanks for sharing your experiment! I may want to try some soy peptone one day. Just a question since it was Kings: one harvested, do you peel of the whole top layer to prep it for second flush?
I'd like to try peptone in grain spawn. I'm guessing a "pinch" per quart but I'm not sure how to incorporate the peptone. Soaking with the grain seems an obvious option but how much peptone remains after draining and drying the grain?
Have you ever tried growing oyster mushrooms in a tub vs. a bag? The more videos I watch on a oyster mushrooms it seems to me like the substrate would be better utilized spread out in a tub. I'm new growing mushrooms, just trying to soak as much info as I can. I suppose I could try it both ways, then compare and contrast, just wondering if you or anyone else has tried it, thanks for the content!
The problem with growing oysters in tubs is you end up with too much exposed surface area. Oysters are aggressive pinners, so when mushrooms start to form you end up with a bazillion tiny oysters that make for tedious picking. Methods using tightly packed containers like buckets or bags where fruiting holes are cut or drilled intermittently are much more efficient and effective for oysters.
@@RenegadeMushrooms May I ask where you purchase your wheat bran from and how much you pay? I'm ordering some from Amazon today because it's the cheapest I can find but I'm always up for better deals and not giving money to Bezos.
@@DrGaryGreen I hear ya. I've just been buying mine from the grocery store in the baking aisle because the food grade stuff is super clean and I don't use a ton of it. Cheapest place to get it is the agricultural feed stores if you have one near by. They sell the big bags.
Haven't played wth this concept much since this video. It was kind of a side experiment. Peptone definitely boosts mycelial growth but not sure how much it boosts yields.

I've never seen bright yellow spots, but that doesn't sound good. It's always best to test your LC on agar or a small test grain jar before putting it in to production. At least until you get comfortable and consistent success with the process.
Weighed out my usual 2 lbs. 13 oz. of boiling water and then dropped in a level tablespoon of soy peptone powder into the water before adding it to my dry HWFP.

It cool how all the materials are available for you guys .
Keep up the good work.

Sounds like a good experiment, I didn't think of that but I like it. A side by side comparison would be cool.
I love it! you should sell these T-shirts with a little mushroom and a galaxy of mycelium! I'd buy one! thanks for doing what you do!!!!
Jim
Never thought of that, that would make a cool T-Shirt. Thanks for watching and commenting 👊
I put colonised blocks in black fabric garden pots to prevent side pinning
Nice, cool idea. Do you have any problems with the fabric absorbing water in the fruiting chamber?
Hello.
I dry them off every two month and sterilize them on the sun.
Then i reuse the bag two to three times, but it must not be chinese bag

Can you tell me what fruiting temps work best for fruiting your kings?
This strain does really well at 60 to 65 F.

Tissue clone on agar, clean it up, then the sky is the limit. You can trade agar wedges or drop a wedge in some sterile LC and do syringes.

Yeah, I clean the top up to prep for the second flush. Biggest thing is getting rid of all of those aborted pins or else they will mold up on you.

I would add it to the soak water as you mentioned. Not all of it will be absorbed, so you would lose a little, but I think that would be the best way.
