Forgotten desert dwelling | The Hovatter Homestead

  • 29 miles south of I-10 in western Arizona sits the abandoned homestead site of Ray & Barbra Hovatter. They lived and worked in the Little Horn Mountains from 1951-1974, primarily mining manganese.

    Sweet beautiful lost Arizona reminds me of my 3 acres in San Tan mtns. 20 years ago. There is no comparison once experiencing the openness

    Those sand roads seem to be a problem. I couldn't pull over in my dad's last restoration an Oldsmobile because I was sure the tires would drop into the sand and I'd never get out. And on those sharp gravel roads radials steel belts heat up, and BLOW. bE PREPARED.

      No, certainly not. It's mentioned early in the video that Barbara was interested in botany and responsible for the relocation of the saguaros. 😀

      Sweet. What kind of drone do you have? I have a Phantom 3 Pro. but wasn't able to fly inside the refuge.

    very interesting! is it illegal to camp out there with a 4x4 RV...? i mean under 14 days. can you get in trouble (bad ppl etc)? What happened to the 2 daughters? thx

    This is a nice video. The only thing wrong is that Hovatter is pronounced with a long "o" sound like Hoe and the short "a" sound like bat (like "Hoe-vatter"). Thanks for posting it.
