I've been a big Midweek Rub fan all year. As much as I enjoy Duck's banter and energy, the new dynamic with host (ex-player and one of the better minds in footy), ex-player, ex-coach, and journalist is better and I'm enjoying it.

      Its a thousand times better.
I always though Duck was the weak link, and his banter too often missed the mark for me. I also think he secretly hates Damian Barrett, his interactions with him are always super weird, and filled with disrespect.
I'd love if Lyon was on this long term, its great.

Yep exactly. Those who tip Sydney have forgotten that Jordan DeGoey was a late out, and Jack Ginnivan was subbed out early, and several players were reported to be ill during the week, but those who tip Collingwood seem to remember that.

The Pies have been great but they just hold absolutely no fear for the Swans. In fact, the Pies play a game that is really quite similar to the Swans but they are just not as good at it:
    1) defensively the Swans are better at pressuring, tackling and much stronger at protecting scoring chains from the Opp i50
    2) the Swans are a better scoring side by a lot, particularly with our weapons i50
    3) the Swans have many more skilled players across the board and probably more A-graders (De Gooey; Pendles; both Daicos'; Moore; maybe Crisp vs Heeney, Papley, Mills; Buddy; Warner; Buddy on his day; McCartin)
    4) the Swans are just as young and dynamic and have a stronger crop of U24s (Florent, Gulden, Stephenson, Rowbottom, Warner, Blakey, MacDonald

Typical of Damian Barrett to refer to the Fremantle's win at Geelong in the 2013 Qualifying Final as the "famous Shane McGuinness game". He is such a flog. Never mind it was the first final ever played in Geelong; or that Michael Barlow was BOG with 32 disposals and 3 goals, or that Stephen Hill snuck off the interchange to gather the ball unopposed, take 5 bounces, run 90 metres and kick the winning goal. The most important take away from that afternoon was Ross Lyon getting pissed off at some two-bit journo trying to goad him in the press conference and create a headline about the skirmishes behind play. The media always put themselves and their meaningless little stories ahead of the actual game itself. Damo is one of the worst offenders. The guy thinks he is a rock star. Pathetic.

Did they seriously say that Buddy Franklin kicked 3 goals against Melbourne in the qualifying final? He was 0.0 on the scoreboard. Understand he sucked May in and created a goal or two for his teammates, but god the media suck up to the ‘star’ players. Franklin on the whole looked horrible against May

Lyon coached his team into the Grand Final in 2009, 2010 and 2013 for 3 narrow losses against much better opponents than Melbourne. He will go down in history as the one of the unluckiest coaches ever (and possibly the greatest coach never to win a flag.) It will be interesting to see if Goodwin can get his team back into another Grand Final. None of my Dees mates ever rated him prior to 2020 and he seemed to coach poorly again this year, especially given the cattle he has at his disposal. Maybe he just got a bit lucky with his timing last year. Did his best work in the year that Geelong players got gastro before Prelim, and Tigers & Pies both had off years. The competition seems a lot tougher this year and Melbourne's opponents seem to have worked them out. Has Goody (or Choco Williams) got any more tricks up their sleeves?

Stop bashing losing teams, such a shit culture saying things like it’s a waste of a year. Melbourne just won the premiership last year, celebrate that instead and say better luck next year. At the end of the day not every team can win someone has to lose so talk about why teams win and celebrate that instead. These teams put their heart body and soul into the sport and just because they come up short because another team performed better doesn’t mean they deserve a bashing! Change the narrative improve the culture!

Rioli has been away from his entire family through a traumatic time for them all and he has tried to find solutions to the problem but it hasn't worked. This has happened DOZENS of times over the years but nobody else gets this bullshit. The Eagles had a choice to make and they made it. Support him or don't support him.
