  • A little bit of information about 3 of Wallsend's pubs, this is video no 1 in a series about all the pubs we have in the area, where the buildings are still standing or still in use. I will later cover the Howdon, Willington Quay and other areas too. I hope you will enjoy this first one and find it interesting.
All photos my own or from the public domain.

Very enjoyable! However, it's sad seeing old pubs closing and the buildings unused ☹. I'm glad the Queens Head is still going.

Yes it is sad, we have lost many pubs in the area, but we do still have quite a few that are open and still seem to be doing quite well.

The Coach and Horses is a very fine piece of Arts and Crafts architecture. Do you know anything about the architect?

Yes it is quite amazing work. Sadly I know very little about the architect, might be something I need to do some research on

@@julieswallsendhistory8671 I used to work in the planning department and there many old plans. A good starting point would be the Pevsner county guide

I think you would have to look at a lot of old photos to really see the changes, I don't remember much of how Wallsend looked in the 60's.

I feel connected to Wallsend but have few memories, my father worked at the colliery and I think he drank at The Swan. I would love to come for a visit and look for a future home there and maybe have a pint with some locals! Your history shows are greatly appreciated and I love your accent, it makes me feel I’m living in the wrong place! @@julieswallsendhistory8671

@@julieswallsendhistory8671 my father worked for the colliery as a computer programmer…lol in the early 60’s, I have few memories but I feel I must return one day as Wallsend is in my soul.

Not sure on that one, I never went there enough to really know what it was like staff and customer wise.
