And They say that's what Amazon has it for . I always say bro u selling a use item u check use prices , also check when the item came out . Would u buy an iPhone 1 for 1000😅

At 7:35, where you see that price discrepancy between listings, it is important to note that one was 8GB and the other was a 16GB model. The one in that PC has the 16GB model.
Back when I sold my used stuff I priced it around 50-60% of the original price. Most people who messaged me asked if it was for parts or is it broken since it was the cheapest on the marketplace. 😅
there's this pawn shop near me that just went out of business. Things in there were priced higher than new, the owner was an old boomer who once said exactly that to me. I swear it was actually a front for something.
Honestly lowe ballers help. Ive got really good deals from sellers who are relieved to get a reasonable offer and accept quickly after getting lowballed so much.
I find myself thinking I am a bad pc dad for the rigs I built our sons. Then I see these things J is looking at and I realise my standards are just really high. Our 6 y/o uses a 6700xt with a Ryzen 5 5700x and cost well under £1,000 letting me know how all over the place your prices are. Some of these rigs Jay looked over were genuine budget gamer scabby , smoke crack, rigs. Cheers for the look.
lol ya, your standards are too high unless you're just passing down old hardware which is what i've always done so the systems they have are a bit overkill for what they need. then their previous system gets donated or are given to other kids at their school because i just can't be bothered to resell shit.
@@bruhbruhman349 Your parents must have been rich to have 2 game systems. My dad got me (himself) a PS1 for Christmas when I was 6. I wanted an N64, but Final Fantasy and Gran Turismo were a worthy trade for Donkey Kong. The family PC could barely run point-and-click adventure/puzzle games, definitely nothing with 3D graphics.
I will say, pay attention to videos such as this, and learn to make informed decisions. Prebuilts are nice, but not always efficient. I always trust what I build over what can be bought.
I only sell stuff for cash,in my small town we have an online in person meetup spot at our local PD that's monitored so I only meet there and never had any issues.
Was about to say this. Having a 2nd person with you means nothing when some thugs pull out a knife/gun. Use the PD for meetups, any normal person will actually find it reassuring & be glad to meet you there instead of some alley/parking lot!
@@sirmonkey1985 I forget how I found out but my PD has a blue sign that say's it's for in person online sales.I agree they should say there's a place for sales meetups.
Not sure about elsewhere, but our local police department is a popular spot to meet for high value meetups. Failing that, a major store parking lot during the day, with someone with you :)
Having an extra body is a big thing. Not only for "reinforcement" but especially to be a buffer. 1 on 1, it is extremely difficult to pay attention to the item you are there to look at. Side note; if in the US and legal in your state, or you otherwise have legal means. Carry protection, and not the rubber kind. At least when dealing with high value purchases.
Hey Jay, you are right about people selling damage system trying to get fast cash. I have a few part around the house and I'm able to build good used system to sell at a good price at times. I always tell the person to come and test system / parts out before you buy it. Plus I also stand by my builds for service if needed. I've been doing this for years. I have not had one of my system die or return to me at all. (Thank God ) Now I have use some of the used parts to upgrade a few older systems in my day. Now I do have a few people that comes just to have a system cleaned
If you're shopping, please make sure to look at the laptop market. I have seen multiple great sales and open box deals on laptops with 4050s and 4060s, and those mobile GPUs will embarrass many desktop GPUs from the 10 and 20 series (and even some of the 30-series). The 4060 mobile is not significantly slower than a 3060 Ti desktop.
RTX 4070m is much slower than RTX 3070m, has same amount of VRAM (8GB) with only 50% memory bus (128bit vs 256bit). It's not always better just looking at the naming scheme. I had a laptop with 3070m and it was actually fast enough for PCVR with HP Reverb G2, one of the best resolution headsets. 4070m is about a 3060 desktop equivalent. 3070m is about a 3060Ti desktop equivalent.
New fan here. Gotta say after building gaming pcs just casually for over 15 years now I learned so many new things in your videos. You guys are hilarious and I appreciate all you guys do. I have the exact same laugh as the guy laughing at you in all your videos 😂. It sounds like an echo when Im laughing at him laughing at you lol. Sending you good vibes man. Hope to see you in good health. 🙏
Very nicely done, explaining this all to people. Over the years my Laptops, and lab servers, have been Refurbished or used. I haven't had any real issues.
I would say that a very big red flag is sellers posting stock photos from the manufacturer instead of photos of the actual product their are selling. I have fell for that before where the seller ends up selling a product that is too damaged. The other red flag would be sellers announcing a price that is too small for the value of the product (like that $1 guy), then acting offended when someone offers them what they are asking and keep trying to up the price on you when you make an offer. I usually filter those low values because they are either faulty/damaged products, scams that target your wallet or your data, or delusional sellers. Thank you for the video Jay and team.
I won't waste my time with listings that have $1 as the price. May as well not have posted any info or pics. If a person wants to sell something they should make it easy for ppl to make the decision wether they want it or not without any delayed back and forth making everything drawn out and more work than need be. No actual pics is a red flag too, and prices that are too good to be true are red flags too.
Probably already mentioned, but FB won't let you ship items for over $500, so some people just put that as the price and then tell you the real price over chat...though they usually call that out in their ad.
Jay can you do a short video talking about cablesmods and how their cables work? I just recently upgraded my PSU to an ROG, I had an Asus Tuf and it had cablemod wires, I’m wondering if I could use those same wires on my new psu.
Paid $700 w/ a 2 year warranty for my new 3090 last year and i couldnt be happier. These recent generations haven't been enticing enough for an upgrade.
I play and work with GTX 1070 Ti in my rig right now, testing it for a week after I repaired it. I play 1440p Fallout 76, it maxes out the framerate (72 FPS cap). It is NOT a bad card!
Same. The problem is tech TH-camrs like Jay lose touch with the common man because they work with high end enthusiast components all the time. The fact of the matter is that most computers since 2017 can run today's games at high speeds and high graphics. Upgrading is not worth it right now unless you want a few more fps or want to show off.

I have a brand new high end water-cooled 486 with a 1200 baud modem for sale. Mint. Seriously though, this was fun. I think anyone that's looking to save money on a PC should just build it themselves. These listings are soooooo sketchy...
My current rig was a 4th gen intel with a gtx780 I got from a buddy in 2018. Since then I’ve slowly upgraded every part, mostly with used components. Now it has a 3600 and a 2080 super with 32 gigs of Ram. Only thing original is the case and the Blu-ray drive lol my next purchase will be a higher-end 5000 series for my b450 board, either a 5800x3D or a 5900x.
I got a PC for a friend on Facebook marketplace with a B550, Ryzen 5600, 3070, 256gb ssd, 750 watt psu, and 16gb of RAM for $640. It's not a crazy crazy deal, but I'm happy with the set up, and the case was actually clean. Optional stuff I picked up was an ethernet cable, GPU sag thingy, and I threw in an old 1tb SSD and a 1tb HDD I had laying around for extra storage. He's gaming on his old TV, so it's really only going to be pushing 60fps at 1080p. But he has so many avenues to upgrade, I'm pretty proud of the snag.

@@dane4890 There was a while the Corsair 750W shot up to $125. That was shooting yourself in the foot on a $500 or L500 build. Had a PSU and it poo'd the bed, so I had to rob one from another rig, simply because a new replacement had shot up that much. I really find it hard to ask the money I want to ask for the rig now.... So she still sits here. I made a bad choice in cases. The Corsair 4000D is useless for mounting a 360AIO in the front, absolutely no airflow, even double stacking the radiator fans.
And I thought the few bucks I was originally going to ask for the second system I built out of my old left over parts was asking too much. I guess it was just best I decided keep it because it's eventually going to be a games server when possible. :)
Something to consider when getting Intel 12th, 13th or 14th Gen.. Jay goes into it often but if they have a high end motherboard, it is quite likely there is CPU degradation from high OCs from folks that know how to or worse high voltage from folks that don't do any optimizations.. just points to ponder. I read folks on the forums complaining about their CPUs degrading often.
3:16 That's more than a brand new gaming PC from the store with a 5800X3D and RX 7600 (standard parts, not OEM crap). Or same price for a 5800X/3060Ti. (cheaper cases yes, but...)
I just sold a system with an i7 8700, 32GB of RAM and a 3060 12GB with 2TB of storage. I did not market it as high end and I sold it for $620. It really helped that the competition in that price range were people that spent a lot of money on cases and RGB, and put turds in them. Think R5 2600X with an RX 580 and 16GB of RAM, marketed like some of these deluded people.
Smiling! I don't go by date especially in marketplace, I see the same listing from week to week that say, listed a day ago. That when you put 100 mile area and you get listings from 2000 miles away.

I sold a older gaming pc with a Phenom II X4 955, 8gb ram, and an r9 270 last week for $35. Even really old stuff can still have some life left in it. All depends on what you want to use it for.
my tip for shopping the used market is to know what you want. if you have time to browse then you have time to do your homework. compare prices online for the lowest and if you find that they're about the same, haggle. depending on what it is, you could (hypothetically) save either $10-50 or 10-50%. for example, i just picked up 2 monitors the other day, asking price was $150. did my homework and they accepted $100. now i got a triple monitor setup that matches perfectly in aesthetics
Ebuyer open box dells is my favourite place to shop in the UK. for Example, I got ASUS GeForce RTX 4080 8GB DUAL OC For £187,95 I also got MSI GeForce RTX 4060Ti SLIM 8GB for different build for £287,95. The are all open box nether used OTHER THAN for cabinet displays. You can also get Ex display monitors with 80% discounts. and if you spend £1000 in one shopping kart you get a case from the midrange level for free. The only problem is I don't verry often see Motherboards on there. maybe there is not a need to display outside the box.
When I flip a PC I ALWAYS make the distinction on new and used parts. I just sold one that WAS all new parts at the time I built it, and wasn't used for anything but installation of the OS, drivers, and benchmark and stress testing. I have another one listed where I say if a certain component is new or used. Anything else is stupid or dishonest.
I still run a 3770k oc'd to 4.8 all core with 16 GB of 2400 mhz g skill ram and a rtx 2080. No real concerns so far since the most intense game I play is wonderlands/borderlands 3. Edit: I managed to snag everything minus the case for around $600 right around the start of "the pandemic." I'll upgrade once I get a newer cpu/ram/mobo combo used for around $200.
When it comes to meeting in public to make the sale - ask to meet someplace with a lot of cameras, like a McDonald's lobby or the local police station. My local police has a designated spot right in front next to the front door where you can meet to do internet sales.
it doesnt matter if you get robbed at a mcdonalds. None of the employees will help defend you and they wont allow you to have camera footage. They will kick you out because mcdonalds is a restaurant not a place for you to do your trade deals.
The $450 ryzen is basically what Ive just bought in the uk from a cash generator place, but I paid £300/$380 usd, plan is to upgrade it slowly over the rest of the year. Will be a massive upgrade for me, currently using a dell xeon 1270 with a 1060 in it.
I have older PCs, I"m interested in selling but I dont know what I should do to prep my PC for sale. I dont want to leave behind personal info for the buyer to find.
Jay, I'd love to see a video talking about selling and buying high end pcs. Like custom watercooled computers because I built a bunch of watercooled computers and am getting very not good prices because I think people don't understand what a custom loop costs. Jmi idk
I've been doing online buy & sale PC deals since 2010, I have gained very good experience meeting new people and dealing with them, sometime i go to their place and sometime they come to my place, that's how i have been building my PCs ever since.
So how would you label a new build with a mix of new and used parts and everything is repasted, cleaned, and benchmarked? Fb marketplace only allows 'new' and 'used' but the new build isn't used, as in no cleaning necessary and should run for years with just regular maintenance, unlike a used pc that typically needs taken apart to be thoroughly cleaned.
From what few times I've looked on Facebook market place or ebay where someone listed a pc with next to no information and when I've came to ask 20+ questions about it the person then ends up claiming to have already sold it (supposedly). Which just leads to wonder which sucker they managed to sell it to
Personally I dont get people who list a part 2nd that is still available new aswell and they ask 95% of what a new one cost. Then when you offer a more reasonable 2nd hand price they tell you something like they only used it a month. Then when you ask some more questions they always have 0 reasons or prove.
How many owner generations would you go on a GPU? I mean like 1st owner > 2nd owner etc. Would you buy a GPU out of it's warranty date/Would you recommend a person not as versed as yourself in GPUs to buy out of manufacturer warranty?
Why not? Just consider it might fail at any point. My second hand 1080 failed just before 4070 launched (bought from a friend who got it at launch). MOSFET blew. If the price is right go for it.
it all depends on what you're comfortable with.. that being said in 25+ years of building PC's i've never warrantied a single gpu so the warranty means squat to me. i think people get too hung up on the whole warranty thing, while on paper they're good in reality they're a royal pain in the arse to deal with and not worth the effort. nor are you guaranteed to actually get a working product sent back to you.
Just out of curiosity's sake I looked up what my build would be priced at brand new and it's about 4.5k. The 4090 really did jump up in value by quite a bit because that's more than I spent for the parts when I got them. To think I'm considering upgrading the mobo/ram at some point if next lineup of CPUs are good...
Love your takes on the used market. Im lucky not to be so budget bound that I need to shop used. I prefer having the guarantee, but I have sold a few items. Latest my old 3060 to a Ukrainian refugee. Nice guy BTW. I always only sell face to face as in wanna look the other in the eyes and hand over the item without the shipping hassle. Never have had issues.
Sadly the used market in my country is basically not existent. So many people either overrating their parts and not willing to go down, unscrupulous sellers or generally low availability for parts. In the U.S though you probably can snag a lot of deals.
There is a point you raised old MB for the 5800 CPU. So if you can't use all the features yet you can fit it. How is that better as an upgrade to fit and later model CPU to an older MB? This is why I don't understand the debate of INTEL vs AMD CPU/MB combo/price. INTEL you usually pair with no older than 1-2 generations where you usually have most if not all the functionality of the CPU.
That intel i5 and gtx1660 comments was really helpful. A work colleague got ripped off by a prebuild company, they don't know much about pc's and got an intel i5 9th gen, 16gb ddr4 and a gtx1050ti. No speeds or anymore details given as to what i5 9th gen on the website 🤦♂️
I know this video is geared more toward people looking to offload their used PC's but there are also many PC flippers and Local builders like myself on these platforms that build PC's for profit. Some folks don't market themselves as such but their prices may appear a bit higher because your paying for their expertise in sourcing the parts, building and testing the machine to make sure it's stable. It's not a bad way to make some side cash as long as your not trying to pull a fast one. I also wanted to comment on the "New Build Comments". I think its fair to call a build new as depending on the parts that are used because GPU's and CPU's have longevity in them and if the rest of the parts used in the system are new it is essentially a new system especially if it's been tested for stability and thermals. The build is technically new because the builder sourced the parts and Built the system and tested it. In my listings I mark which parts are new and used if any so there is no confusion. If it's a build I just cleaned up and tested then yes that would be marked as used.
well put, my build was actually roasted in this video, and i think he is a bit ignorant of the difference between people who are trying to offload their old pc, and people who are selling something with the intent of making a profit.

Check the make of PSU on the PC cultist list as a cheep PSU can be an issue. Getting your goods, use the car park police out side of a police station. (Surveillance Cameras.) Also ask, some stations will say use our lobby.
My dad taught me from the moment I got into buying my PC parts that if and when I sell them, I need to accept about a 50% loss every time (note, we're talking about parts used for years, not parts I use for
Yeah but when you go to many of the good deals, it has an email address, that's all they want is for you to email them and get your addy. The car ads on craigslist has been that way for decades. You see something like a 2015 Chevy Colorado for $3700. Or it turns out the location is 2500 miles away.
On eBay, to find the price people actually pay and not some of the scammy stuff still listed, go into filters and tick 'sold items'. Then you have a rough guide on what to pay.
I cannot tell you how crazy some of the deals are where I live, (Cape Town, South Africa) especially on the FB market. I've seen some of the worst combinations of parts with a price tag that people just pulled out their behinds.
When it comes to marketplace pc’s I assume every one of them is stolen merchandise. Just wait for a prime day special or Black Friday(month now). I picked up a good pc and didn’t have to worry about the bs.
Moment you buy it there is better deal available,if you're lucky that's it.If it's great price something's amiss-motherboard,gpu,cpu,ram,ram slots, psu etc.If you're brave enough build it,it'll cost maybe more but building decent frankenstein has no price.
I gotta tell ya Jay, i'm rocking a 1070ti and i get 115 fps in palworld with gpu running 92-98%. with a ryzen 5 5500 gpu to throw on top of it. Playing diablo 2 i can get 90ish on average. Playing Hogwarts i get about 70. it really is all over the place when all 3 games run the same gpu usage.

I don't think many people should be shopping for a used PC but if they're browsing for second hand markets, browse for used parts as that's more likely to be legit since people swap pieces quite frequently.
Hate to ask this, but could you go over the Ryzen motherboards and what the limitations on them? I got back into building and I fear I limited myself with my b450 MSI motherboard with a 5600X.

@@Jimthenealslol for $120 less i bought a system with an R7 5700x, rtx3060 12gb, 32gb ram, 1to m.2, 750w PSU... all parts are brand names with 1-year warranty, does what i need and more! i was having literal headaches when i was dealing with marketplace guys before i decided to give them the finger. Best decision ever!
At 7:35, where you see that price discrepancy between listings, it is important to note that one was 8GB and the other was a 16GB model. The one in that PC has the 16GB model.
Still not at all worth that for a 16GB 4060ti 😭😭
i noticed that too! it's just jayz being jayz 🤣
@@UrbanGrafixltdJayz being Lay-z.
@@CantankerousDavei'm surprised the editor kept that, totally meant to get a reaction from people like us 🤣
Back when I sold my used stuff I priced it around 50-60% of the original price. Most people who messaged me asked if it was for parts or is it broken since it was the cheapest on the marketplace. 😅
“No low balling, I know what I got!!”
always love that one.. i also love messing with people that put that on their listing by listing out the exact prices of everything they have.
Then you have those that cannot afford $2 for a 4090 anyways.
there's this pawn shop near me that just went out of business.

A 6 year old playing on better specs than me?? I was on ps2 and Xbox 360 at 6 😂
lol ya, your standards are too high unless you're just passing down old hardware which is what i've always done so the systems they have are a bit overkill for what they need. then their previous system gets donated or are given to other kids at their school because i just can't be bothered to resell shit.
Those are my exact specs and I'm in my 40's. Your son/daughter is fortunate.
@@bruhbruhman349 I was playing Game & watch games when I was 6 🤣🤣. The first NES came later.
7:44 I'm actually running that Asus 4060 Ti in my system right now. bought it in February as an upgrade from an Asus GTX 980 😅
Here police would laugh at you when you even suggest such service ..
yup we have the same thing here and also out front of the fire department stations but sadly it's not advertised by the PD here which is fk'ing dumb.

Very nicely done, explaining this all to people. Over the years my Laptops, and lab servers, have been Refurbished or used. I haven't had any real issues.
This is fun. Do more of these!!!
"Trust your gut" is great advice. I've learned over the years to trust mine because it always ends up being right.
Just on the 4060 Ti section 7:43. The price you compared on google, the $600+ card is 16GB and the $300+ is an 8GB cards.
That 4060ti was a 16gig model - the other you found prices on were 8gig and 16gig ... Great vid as always ... :D ...
I had the ability to buy a 3090 for $500. Kicking myself I didn't. I mean I have a 3080, so was not hurting for performance.
Secondary SFF build I just put together from mostly used parts..
Fractal ridge + b550i aorus pro ax = $195 shipped from ebay
3700x = $115 shipped from ebay
IS67xt cooler = $42 new from amazon
1tb p3+ = $free with amazon points
2tb sn850x = $90 new from ebay
32GB lpx @ 3200 = leftover from prior build
5700xt raw II ultra = $100 from fb marketplace
open box sf850 = $84 from ebay
Sold a few parts from the prior secondary frankenstein machine I had before this so subtract ~$150. It's been great, I take it to friends houses for game nights. Waaay more portable than the pure base 500 machine that this morphed into.
6:19 the aio is installed incorrectly. Not as bad as having the pump above it. But still bad.
I like how at 9:20 seller emphasizes gen4 ssd, when the current mb+cpu combo doesnt even support gen4.

I really find it hard to ask the money I want to ask for the rig now.... So she still sits here. I made a bad choice in cases. The Corsair 4000D is useless for mounting a 360AIO in the front, absolutely no airflow, even double stacking the radiator fans.

@@marco18brion not everyone, that's why you compare around.
I always buy/sell at the local PD. Our PD has “e-commerce” parking spots with cameras and audio.
my tip for shopping the used market is to know what you want. if you have time to browse then you have time to do your homework. compare prices online for the lowest and if you find that they're about the same, haggle. depending on what it is, you could (hypothetically) save either $10-50 or 10-50%.
for example, i just picked up 2 monitors the other day, asking price was $150. did my homework and they accepted $100. now i got a triple monitor setup that matches perfectly in aesthetics

After seeing this video I really want to see a fallow up video but for home servers and how someone can get a cheap server going to learn on/ upgrade.
From what few times I've looked on Facebook market place or ebay where someone listed a pc with next to no information and when I've came to ask 20+ questions about it the person then ends up claiming to have already sold it (supposedly). Which just leads to wonder which sucker they managed to sell it to
I found a sff build with a 7800x3d and rx6800 for 1000 bucks, seemed like a solid deal
This was actually really entertaining. I would love to see Jay do more of these and lowball some more bros.
