The movie is a whole lotta fun to watch, with a fantastic soundtrack! Please give us a review of STREETS OF FIRE 🔥.

Crazy legs doing the windmill in Flashdance was (to my memory) the first time we saw actual breakdancing on film, before Beat Street or Breakin! Don't forget the Snoopy TV special FLASHBEAGLE that premiered later that year! Lol

I saw Flashdance in the theater and it was the first time I had ever seen breakdancing. It completely electrified me. My own attempts at that dance form were limited - to quote LL Cool J "You tried to take breakdance lessons, ended-up in an ambulance." But I wonder how many other white suburban teens were exposed to breakdancing and hip-hop through this film and others like it. We were watching MTV 96 minutes straight A DAY and we sure weren't getting it there.

x Two of my favorite music videos of all time are "What a Feeling" by Irene Cara and "Gloria" by Laura Branigan.
x I watched Footloose and Flashdance, both for the first time, on International Dance Day (April 29th) this year.
x Jimmy Fallon, for one of his 80s night skits for the Tonight Show, did the scene where he pulls the chord and water falls on him!
x I thought the movie really excelled in creating an intensely desperate situation so the victory at the end really felt intensely inspiring!

Thank you - This made my day. And nothing like prepping for 4, 12 hour shifts while flashdance is playing (because of course I had to watch it after your amazing synapses). That last scene ❤️ .

@@MorganRichter Kevin Bacon had a similarly large place in Quicksilver ( 1986 ).

This is one movie I have not been able to ever get into or even get to the end. I don't have to think I've missed out on something because I now know I haven't.

    Great analysis, as always!
As an adult I can understand Michael Nouri's appeal, but as a youngster I had a soft spot for Richie, the hapless wannabe comedian. Fun fact: Richie's grouchy boss at Mawby's was played by Don Brockett (Chef Brockett from Mr. Rogers Neighborhood)!

Studios releasing movies hoping they would Fail, I know it doesn't fall under our Gen-X period but how you explain modern films like Fant4stic and X-Men Dark Phoenix? Do those count or do they fall into the category of studio meddling making troubled productions worse or for the latter film losing all interest in the previous interpretation of the property once it was purchased by Disney?

Yeah, that's kind of an interesting phenomenon -- I was also thinking of 2012's Amazing Spider-Man, which Sony only made so their rights to the Spider-Man franchise wouldn't expire (and it unexpectedly ended up making a lot of money anyway). In cases where rights are involved, as with the Disney purchase, I definitely think studios will occasionally botch a release, or release something they know is half-assed. Good point.

    Which is it?
One is either a professional dancer or professional welder? Two highly disparate 'tramline' career paths juggled at the same time seems most unusual, and must be the source of much confusion and inner angst ...BUT in case this 'high concept' went over our heads the makers melded (welded?) the words 'flash' and 'dance' in case we just didn't GET IT!
