Even my 20x80's freaked out my co-worker. I told him that I paid $1800 for them and he said... "yeah, looks like about what I thought." Wow! I told him I paid $129 on Amazon, I love mine and it's tight and crisp. I do wish I had Zoom ability, not just focus.

I have both the 20x80 mm binoculars and the 25x100 binoculars and both are wonderful, but I like the 20x80 mm binoculars best. However, I was able to see the rings of Saturn much better with the larger binoculars. The big ones are huge and hard to steady on any tripod I have tried so far and that makes it difficult to focus precisely, but once set the view is incredible. My 20x80 mm binoculars are easier to focus and are far more stable on my tripod. I use them for gazing at the stars and planets, but they are also fabulous to use when hunting or observing long range targets. They are far better than any spotting scope I have ever used when they are tripod-mounted. Overall I am quite satisfied with both binoculars.

Maybe clamshell the main body of cast carbon fiber. Pop the lenses into the bottom, and close. reduces weight and cost, drastically.

I have to comment that I used 25x100's hand-held and LOVED IT (A.L.'s Bino Messier and Deep Sky Binocular). Not for double-stars, not for standing up. Just laying on a lounge chair, elbows propped on chest, looking UP. Lots less fuss than with a a tripod. I must state that I'm a big guy (6'3" , 235#), and in fair shape. Not for everyone, but don't feel like a tripod is needed for EVERYONE. I will quickly admit that I'll probably need to downsize to 20x80's in a few years to match this. Still, DSO's were extremely FUN with these. If you are looking for FUN, don't hesitate, get some big binos!

    • @VideoFromSpace

+Jim,Kathy Twellman Thanks for sharing that. Good tip! I tried the lounge chair thing and found that, yes, if my target was between about 25° and 55° elevation, I could rest the objectives on my knees and get stable sky.

I know this is an old comment, but thought I'd also say - I'm used to hand holding the big Canon super tele lenses (those huge white ones) which are heavier than these and have no problem - it's all down to what you're used to really!

Jim, I'm 73, 6-1, 250 lbs and am able to lie back in a lounge chair with arms on it for support.

Perhaps a medium sized suitcase could be modified-[say, holding that central knob for locating the set]--and padded for safety. The suitcase format could also hold maps, red-light, etc. And, if an option case from Celestron, could afford a 'chair' position or two.....

Which tripod did you use ? how did you focus the binoculars? I tried these on Celestron's "heavy duty alt-azimuth mount" and they didn't stay stable The single screw allows the binos to move relative to the mount even when the screw is tight. And the focus didn't work well. I was able to see Jupiter as a disc --but no bands etc. I returned them.

As you can see by the photos I tested the phone adapter by taking a phone of a power pole on the next block and you can see the results. It took a couple of minutes to line the phone camera up to the eye piece, there’s a bit of a learning curve, but once it was longed up it stayed in place without any issues. So far I’m impressed with the feel and the weight, the neck strap is wide and soft so it feels good on my neck. I look forward to using it with my friend and grandson in Big Bend!

About $300 new but you can find used ones cheaper. Make sure you buy used from
a reputable seller though. I adore my set.

Right at the intro, the binoculars were swaying in the wind. Cheap crap, weighted mount, not a real tripod is why.
