  • More at www.thetravelt... This is a short video showing how Fijian's construct their 'Lovo', which is their way of cooking food like chicken, pork, beef and fish underground. This involves heating up large stones until they become white hot, and then laying the meat which is wrapped up in coconut or banana leaves and left under the ground for hours. This method is similar to the 'hangi' which is used in New Zealand, or the 'Hawaiian Underground Oven'.     Hawaiians call this above ground oven umu, underground oven is imu. Very similar to how we do it. Mahalo nui loa Fiji for showing us how to make a lovo.

      We the Incas in Perú, South America are maken this food, we call PACHAMANCA
      PACHA =EARTH
      MANCA=POT
      Begun in the years between 500 and 1,100 DC with the Wari Culture...

    First time I had lovo was in 1972 when my police dad was transferred to Savusavu. Never have I tasted better food.
