Can I ask. Is it too late to join the battle of the breeders? I'm partnered with Fast Buds and I wanna do the gorilla cookies FF and give them a full tent run with a long veg. Is there any end date?
I use fabric pots and add about 2-3 inches of clay pebbles (washed) on the bottom. A light H2O2 solution can help with rot if you catch it early enough.
definitely experienced this with a seedling before, always an unfortunate surprise but thanks for passing along what you were able to learn from your mistakes and how to prevent it for next time, saves many of us from a giant headache and more likely to save a plant in time too!
This is why top down watering is best, those wicking pots are really just a disaster waiting to happen, and also makes for a lazy Grower, just my 2 Cents 💚🇦🇺👍
I'm definitely not lazy I just rather spend my time training the plants and keeping my cycling of flower in check and having an automated flood and drain table Definitely makes growing less time watering the girls i get to super cropping and lst in my garden! That with the automation makes a clear reason to train and have automated systems just like the trimmer I assume you use on your light when you' flower lol
I'd stay away from those wicking trays in the future. Having stagnant moisture like that is a massive red flag. Also starting to add some clay balls to the bottom of the pots will help. Even in cloth pots you will notice a big difference. Clay balls will raise the bottom of the medium enough to allow air flow to beneath the pots. I add about 2-3 litres in the 5 gallon AC infinity and about 4 in the 7 gallon. About an inch and a half thick. :) hope this helps.
Also a root zone health tonic will help. Canna rhizotonic helps maintain and canna zym or house and garden roots accelerator helps with healing damaged roots and getting rid of old matter. :)
If I ever grow indoors I'll take this into consideration. I grow outdoors in So-Cal. Some are in fabric containers, others are in the ground. Crazy that I put gallons of water on these plants every morning and root rot is never even considered.
thanks this video helped me a ton. I think im dealing with root rot myself but unsure. firstly noticed a foul smell coming from the tent but seems to be coming off the plant itself rather than the soil? Never had this problem in any of my grows. was fine before i last watered. going to let fully dry out and take a look at the roots/ transplant. thankfully havent flipped to flower yet so fingers crossed if it is root rot it recovers.
First time I ever got root rot was using an AC self-watering tray. A mass of roots grew through the fabric pot and down the wicking strings, and I didnt clean the base out when i switched to flowering nutrients. And didn't let the tray dry all the way between waterings .3 weeks into flower notice the bad smell in that tent. Water in the tray went stagnant had a crazy amount of excess nutrients in it. Unfortunately it was an auto and it had to go straight into the trash.
I legit just went through that, I have been stumped on what was going on untill now 😂😂thank you for that. The smell!!! I couldn’t figure it out I literally lost 2 freaking nana glues out of my 4 😭😭😭 all the descriptions yall said was exactly my experience… you guys freaking rock!!!!
Had root rot happened on an outdoor plant years ago and went camping and gave them a good water, but we had a three day down pour i had a water drip container under the pot full of water 😢 i use mycorrhizal fungi know that helps thanks you guys you are awesome love your work from down under Australia 🇦🇺
Throwing a few larger pebbles or any broken clay ware in the pot before filling it with soil keeps the holes in the bottom free and allows for a proper drainage.
Sub irrigation FTW. If you hand water here's an easy tip to prevent over watering. # of gallons X. 5-10% = Max water per watering Ex. 10gal x 5% = 0.5gal of water. If your pot is super dry, add 10% or 1 gallon per 10gal pot per watering. Stay in that 5 to 8% range and you'll never over water again 👍
VDP makes huge difference in water take up … if you find you have saturated soil do yourself a favor .. grab the pot put the plant in the Tub and use the shower head to soak the soil or medium till you get Steady Full drainage in all drain holes of the pot now Let the plant drain in the tub . After it has drained Tilt to pot on a 45 degree angle Prop it up this way and you will see lots of water run out again You have now Lowered the perched water level and Flushed the plant at the same time ,, if you have it LAB lactic acid bacteria 2 tablespoons to 2 gallons of clean de clorinated water ph at 6.2 and Flood the now damp soil with the LAB ..
I wish there were better growers on youtube than the 5 or 6 group of same cult youtubers....youtube videos were so much better when they didn't pay for views ...I have a tv to watch shows on ...
Idk if i recall a video about choosing your medium. Would love to see one. Do you guys have grow guides at all? Ive been impressed seeing these plants in floraflex but unsure on what mediums to choose
I run a Coco, Vermiculite mix & 1-2 inches Clay Pebbles at bottom in Fabric pots on spacers. This ensures the pot is 1-2inches above saucers meaning excess water drains right out bottom through pebbles with lots of airflow around root area also.
i havent had root rot *knocks on wood*, but my brother got root rot on 2 of his 4 plants, the 2 that rotted out was due to over watering, we repotted both 1 made it the other didnt take. would like to note, he is in a green house, and it had been about 2 weeks of just bad weather.
Happy grower in Scotland here I’ve never ever had root rot never once in my time growing with mh hps cmh, now I changed to leds waterings a lot slower three times a week normally with hps and soil would b bone dry after 48hrs in 3gal fabric pots I switched to leds and wow it’s 1 feed per week !!! Maybe a second watering midweek that I only give ph’ed water plus calmag other day of the weeks it’s full feeding schedule they drink a lot less under leds than hps less than half as much water in the same time wired it just seems so strange when before it was three whole feeds per wk now one feed as they just do t drink as much hard to get the head around but takes 4-5 days for my soil to dry between waterings ???
Our issue was a combination of watering frequency and poor drainage. Looking over the data from the pulse hub is how we realized we were getting almost no dry back, we adjusted our watering but it was just to late for that one, we didnt try and pull it cuz it was wrapped up in a scrogg with the other plant.
@@Highigan ah ye u mentioned using fine cocoa it was not draining good enough for ya hopefully u hit the nail on the head and happy growing it is for u !!! it’s all a big old learning !!! Opening the tent, seeing beautiful flowers and then slowly smelling that rot smell can only be equated to taking a beautiful woman home, getting to the bedroom and realising the place you smelled that perfume before was your grandmother
i quit use of self watering plates, the only thing i did was just get most of the harvested stalk pulled out, i use build a soil 3.0 and never got any root rot
Good question! It can start looking like any deficiency, yellowing leaves, stems changing dark colors, drooping and dying leaves. I if you notice any of these and your pot feels heavy with water, soil feels wet or over saturated, not just the top but feel down into the soil then it might be root rot! I would let it dry back a few days till the pot feels lighter or if you move some soil back and roots appear brown, unhealthy or smell bad then I would look to transplant into a fresh pot asap.
@Highigan only autos over here so if that's the case, I'd just push forward and give the girls a weekly tea with lighter watering in efforts to thwart. How's about leafs that turn yellow but do NOT wilt, then begin to get holes or what appears as a break or fold in the leaf?
Looking at the coco u used even with perlite still would retain to much moisture i run ebb and flow with a flood tray and i recommend canna cocco for sure!
Thats awesome if you learn from it and wiser to preventive measures before it happens. God bless you two. Especially in water applications like hydroponics set up even more acceptable to root rot or unhealthy rootaspere. I found out over the years just not over watering or measuring out the water and in flowering. Also not over fertilizing it to much or to high off PKN causes bad situation under neath rootaspere zone. I feel with my finger in the soil two even 3 to 4 inches especially in veg cycles and let it dry out for it actually helps soil healthiness and microbial life health cycles of the soil as long not too dried out too.

Definitely not a PH issue, that was fine for sure. Of course we are going to mention the products we use and how we use them, its the only way we can support the work that goes into making the content. TH-cam makes sure of that..
Add more wicking strings and drill extra holes to add even more wicking strings. I use about 8 wick strings for a 5 gallon pot. Keeps cocoa wet all the way to the top.
OXYGEN, Your root zone needs to have plenty of oxygen as it helps the roots take up minerals, so I always add extra pumice to my soil mix. Definitely have in my DWC. Floraflex Rootdrip saved my ladies! Will never go without it again.
My tip buy a moisture meter for each pot. That give you and idea what's going on. Finger test and you can still over water.😢

Why is everyone saying it's over watering? Has anyone used a DWC? The roots sit in the water constantly? Its all oxygen in the water and nutrients with temp of the water you cant over water if you know what the plant needs😊😅
Try putting a layer of volcanic rocks about eight inches deep on the bottom of the pot then a mix of vermiculite and perlite on top
At the bottom of the rock have a
Air stone so that you can setup it to activate on the dark cycle airating the the roots, cause their will be water in the bottom of the pot,,
Cause they love oxygen on the roots in the dark, simultaneously have a small container of your choice sitting on a brick so you can have wood shavings smoking giving of CO2 ,or a emmiter from a bottle,
Cause they love it in the dark cycle
Also an old trick I have never shared
In your nutrient solution, add vitamin b,, I use a product called Berocca it's a effervescent tablets for energy

can root rot be avoided completely if growing in hydroponiucs vs soil?
Fungal diseases still occur in hydro.
It's actually easier to get root rot in DWC / RDWC / water based growing. But easier to avoid as well by using southern ag or something similar,or H2O2 or a chiller .
Well you can see the inexperience in them you can also use hydrogen peroxide

OXYGEN, Your root zone needs to have plenty of oxygen as it helps the roots take up minerals, so I always add extra pumice to my soil mix. I've never used perlite in my mix and probably wont as I dont like how it rises to the top which means its not doing its job in providing pockets of oxygen in the soil and helping the soil drain.
