I love how daisuke just made up a character nobody had seen before and said "yep, this is the mascot of guilty gear" used them in one portable game and then never again
Legendary May player Kedako used to regularly play +R on the vita just to stay in shape even well throughout Xrd's lifespan. Paid off for when he won +R at CEOtaku in 2018.
I want to add that recently I found out that you can call assists/switch characters on the fly in GG Advance...so the game is even cooler now. Sorry for not including that, I had no idea!
Also I noticed in the video you say there is no Robo Ky, but there kinda is. GGX Advance Edition actually added EX versions of the characters like XX had, and Robo Ky is Ky's EX version. I'm not sure if it's a nod to the arcade version or if it's to save space, but he has Ky's sprites with the Robo Ky moves.
@@Nifterific Robo-Ky is GG mode Ky in GGX and GG Petit 2, and Extra mode Ky in GGX Advance. Ex mode wasn't a thing until GGX2, although GG mode was kinda similar (though it didn't change the characters' movesets much, aside from Ky). It was only until GGX2 where they gave Robo-Ky a separate slot on the character select screen (and a new colour palette, since he was an alternate version of Ky in the older games) but he still used Ky's sprites and voice clips. It was only until GGX2 Reload where Robo-Ky gets his own sprites and voice clips.
@@LegitThatDudeThe rest of the portable-exclusive characters too. Also, that Variable Battle mode, the closest thing to a tag-team mode in classic Street Fighter. 🙌
Handheld versions of fighting games are like the cutest shit ever. Like, how they fit all that action in a tiny little rom? But then they do and seeing the sacrifices they have to make are the cutest things ever.
I remember playing gg xx accent core plus on my psp back in the day. I had no idea how fighting games worked, but the amazing visual style kept me returning to the game for years.
Watching this video just taught me two things as a Guilty Gear fan. 1: I now know that the wonder swan exists and want one 2. And I want Guilty Gear Petit
Guilty Gear Advance is so unreasonably awesome lmao. The 2v2 mode is something I wish they could bring back, and the inclusion of GG1 and EX mode for the whole cast is so cool. There's even a legit colour editor, which is so sick. I wish someone could mod netplay into the game, I want to play it with friends so much.
The gba port was actually my first introduction to fighting games and I loved to play it all the time, the aesthetic and characters were truly eye catching even on the smaller screen, I had quite a lot of fun with it and let me explore more games in the future!
Too bad the AI in both games isn't very good. At least the AI TRIES in Petit, but even on the hardest difficulty, the AI is next to brainless in Advance.
I was on the GG fan wiki and saw Dust Strikers, Isuka, and Judgement all in a row and I thought to myself "I should find out what those are". Thanks to you man for this surprisingly comperhensive showcase! Much appreciated.
I always felt bad for Daisuke with Guilty Gear 2: Overture. dude CLEARLY had some ambition and wasn't intending for Guilty Gear to just be fight game franchise, but the hard pivot into MOBA didn't do him any favors and Overture is the sort of rough around the edges that clearly needed a few more pass-overs to hit the main-stream popularity Daisuke so believed in.
Oh my god I've been looking for Guilt Gear Dust Strikers for so long. I recently got into the series, but always thought I dreamed of having a Guilty Gear platforming game on my R4 as a kid. Guess I wasn't delusional afterall
Another cool thing about gg advance is that there is a option to change the way the characters work, like for example Potemkin could have a air dash, run, and extra moves
There is another unlockable character in Petit. It is called GG Milia and it takes the last slot. I only remember this because I couldn't get her time trial down for retroachievments
Believe it or not, Pro Jumper Guilty Gear Tangent was the game that introduced me to the series. I never played it, but I saw it in an issue of Nintendo Power many years ago. I was really confused when my second impression of the series was Bridget.
The X2 Reload that came with the Western version of Guilty Gear Judgement isn't the full game as it was missing some things, namely the Story Mode. There's actually a standalone release of X2 on the PSP, with everything included, but it's Japan only. I assume that the reason as to why Slash wasn't carried over was because there was more shit to translate. Was probably faster just to have X2 there instead. Also, I'm pretty sure that Robo Ky's in Petit 2 and Advance, as GG Ky, just like in the original game. Robo Ky only became a separate character in X2, and then got overhauled in X2 Reload. One of the things I love about Petit 2 and Advance Edition is that you could play as GG1 versions of the characters. For Petit, only a few characters got that treatment (probably to make up for Venom, Dizzy and Baiken not being playable), but for Advance, everyone had it, and they even made new sprites to match moves that were only in the first game. Even characters that weren't in the original GG had GG1 mode. Venom's GG1 mode has a weird super where gray clones of himself flies in from the top corner of the screen and act like missiles.
The Tag Mode in GGX Advance isn't just the characters tagging in when one is defeated. If I recall correctly you can press Select to switch characters mid-combo opening up some DUMB options. I remember bringing my GGX Advance to school to play during breaks. I quickly discovered the AI in that game is really bad but otherwise it was adorable. Also do have Petite and EGAD do I want Fanny back. She's one of my favorites. Basically the Faust equivalent to Sakura. If I recall, her full story is that when she was a little girl, Dr.Baldhead saved her life (remember: Dr.Baldhead used to be a kind and skilled Doctor before he flipped out) and so she wanted to grow up to be a nurse. Now she is one and is trying to find Dr.Baldhead unaware that he is now wearing a bag on his head. It's heavily implied she might be bald and her hair is a wig which I think is kinda cool (because she probably lost her hair to the disease). Mostly though I just like weird girl characters so yeah I want Fanny back.
Yeah I recently found out about assist calls in GG Advance....very sad I didn't know about them beforehand! I wish I could just add a section to an already uploaded video...lol
I played GuiltyGear on the PS2 era...and when i saw that the mext game was Overdrive...i fell out of the game...so Xrd came and went without my knowledge, feels bad today that i missed that title completely, but i havin a Blast with Strive.
GG Advance is basically how I learned fighting games. Doing even hadoukens never clicked with me until I played an Isuka cabinet, and then bought GG Advance....Yep. Those two.
I actually played the Guiltyu gear DS game, this was my introduction to the series, but I would play XX occasionally is other friend's house and would not play it again until Strive 0:58 Chibi Axl looks so adorable!
Wish Strive would just add good single player instead of just gutting the mechanics so everyone can get a shot. However, that is risky, so I get why we are where we are. Great video!
One thing I find absolutely hilarious about Guilty Gear X Advance is how bonkers Dragon Install is in that game. Since the game is a Guilty Gear X demake, all of Sol's attacks cancel into each other instanteanously when in DI, and since for whatever reason Advance has an increased meter build, you end up just shitting meter like it's nobody's business. And then heavy Volcanic Viper lags the game so much that the music actually slows down.
Still glad my first Guilty Gear experience was with GG X: Advance Edition via an emulator. After landing my first ever combo with Sol, I knew I'd fall in love with the series.
I've played both GGX and GGDS and Nintendo portables definitely got the short end of the stick. I now own a physical GG collection for the Switch, so I'll have to see whether ARS had redeemed themselves.
I know this is old but I just wanted to say I actually did get into GG through the gba game. It whet my appetite just enough to get my own copy of X2 and the rest was history haha.
I'm a simple man and a got a PSP with just arcade games to play on the during some downtime and GG XX Accent Core +, I'm not a pro or a FGC aficionado but I do appreciate some good arcade gameplay.

It's a very Daisuke thing to do.
and now chimaki is in the 3v3 mode in strive

It started off as a java phone game actually

It's interesting that they never implemented that team mode outside of +R, I always found it really fun.

Great video! I randomly read about Fanny on a tweet so this video was perfect to get some context. Keep it up!
My first GG was the PSP port of XX Accent Core Plus. To this day, I still prefer it over modern GG games.
Emulating AC+ on my phone was literally my first GG experience
Another cool thing about gg advance is that there is a option to change the way the characters work, like for example Potemkin could have a air dash, run, and extra moves
Of all the things here to peak my interest, for some reason it was the enemy designs in Judgement
There is another unlockable character in Petit. It is called GG Milia and it takes the last slot. I only remember this because I couldn't get her time trial down for retroachievments
I thought the mascot was that one dolphin anchor lady.
I thought it was that one yoyo character
There's no tension quite like recess money matches on the PSP where winning or losing still means you might get into a real fist fight.
The Guilty Gear Dual Strikers is like a newgrounds game with Guilty Gear Sprites
Believe it or not, Pro Jumper Guilty Gear Tangent was the game that introduced me to the series. I never played it, but I saw it in an issue of Nintendo Power many years ago. I was really confused when my second impression of the series was Bridget.

Johnny was on a Wonderswan GG game??? huh today i learned
Petit looks so good. Advance was daring. Not perfect but showcases just what a beast the GBA was.
