By far the most helpful video I’ve found to do this.. I knew it had to be a more simpler way to change the evap than breaking down the entire dash just to get to it and this is the best way I’ve seen so far

You forgot to mention the screw going from engine compartment through fire wall into the back of the dash single screw will make you almost break the dash if not removed other than that awesome video only took me 4 hours to complete repair installed and removed

2:54 10mm bolt engine bay/ fire wall. That's 4 hours is faster than I ever could do it! Just pulling the vacuum on the ac and recharging it took an hour.

"The Center Council." Just teasing. Thanks for the video. Gonna be doing this tomorrow and you definitely saved me some time. Unfortunately it's also a police car so I have to work around damn non-OEM equipment wiring. Also heard some of these evaporators are leaking brand new. Hope I don't do all this for nothing!

The evaporator that I purchased was under pressure and you know if it was a viable part before installing. Yes center console 😁. Good luck.

My shop just turned down a 2016 Impala with a HUGE evaporator leak. Looking at AllData, the labor rate calls for 10.4 hours. Theirs no way in hell your getting this done in a day. Owner asked me what i think its worth, i said about 22-24 hours, because i'd lose out on that many hours being tied down to just 1 vehicle. He called his friend at the chevy dealership where he orders his parts from, and the guy said they would probably charge about 16 hours, as no tech there wants to do this job. And thats a chevy dealership.
I feel sorry for the people who buy these crap cars they're making these days.

I hear you took me a good weekend to finish it. I would guess even with one under my belt it would take me 12+ plus hours in a perfect scenario.

The positive is I have had only two problems with this car this evaporator coil and water pump. The car currently has over 136,000 miles still going, but we will see how long it will last.

I just can't help but wonder why the EPA makes manufactures put all these sensors in cars now days but doesn't go after manufactures for poor designs like this. The sad thing, after digging into this, this very issue goes all the way back to 2014 and all the way up to 2020. In HVAC there is a huge fine for releasing Freon into the atmosphere, but car manufactures skate by with dropping a massive headache on the consumer and releasing chemicals into the air.

Great video, dont have the balls to do myself. getting this horrific job done next week. even tho there is a special coverage dealer still wants $3k to do this job. seems like there are many factors that could go wrong. hoping what ever tech gets assigned my car they find your video. 👍

Hi Joey, I am having this issue now & wondering why the dealer is charging you 3k, when the special coverage should cover it? Are you beyond the milage/6 year timeframe? I am 4 months past the 6 year timeframe, but am hoping dealer will work with me on it. Any residual issues arise since the repair was done that I should look out for?

Thanks for the video. I had my evaporator core replaced about 1 year ago and now I have noticed a wet floorboard on the front passenger side as well as back floor. Do you think they forgot to reconnect the drain hose? Is that the hose sticking up beside the center console? Any advice? I plan to call them (Chevy dealer) tomorrow to see if they’ll correct the issue, but I’m afraid it has been too long for them to care.

    • @commonlogic3.14

I think your on to something that hose starts in center and terminates on the passenger side. You can see hose at 3:45.

@@commonlogic3.14 the hose was out of the hole that is cut in the floor pan. Got it put in place and drying out the carpet now. I’m assuming the “grommet collar” is supposed to be fitted through the hole so it doesn’t easily pull out? Thanks again for your help!

Hello Bret, going to start this project. Once you actually took it off, how many people did it take to get out? Any additional pointers besides the ones you added to this comment section?

    • @commonlogic3.14
      @commonlogic3.14  ปีที่แล้ว

Hello Josue, Once it was ready to pull out my wife and I lifted it out. I started on the driver's side and walked through the car. Take some pictures. Make sure the steering wheel is taped in position, so the wheel stays clocked correctly. It is time consuming, but not terrible. You can do it!

My 14 Impala won't change temperature on the dual zone climate control anymore, is stuck on cold. The scanner shows code: B0408-06 control circuit on main temperature low voltage/open. Any help would be appreciated.
