I wish they'd reprint Love Com. I'd pick that up in a heartbeat. Also yes, I'd love to see Saiki K get licensed, I don't care how long it is. Most of the series I want licensed are actually Manhwa, and I feel like since we've been getting quite a few already, that there's bound to be more licenses this year hopefully.
right TT i wish viz would be more clear about what they do and don't pan to reprint, would save me the headache of trying to hunt for these oop volumes,, and yes! surprising saiki isn't here already but english publishers are scared of comedy manga for some reason
Yess! Initial D is so good!! It is so sad how only 33 volumes were ever printed in English 😭 I also hope one outs gets an English release soon!! It is such a good combination gambling and baseball! Baby steps is such a nostalgic series for me! I loved the anime so much that when I was younger I played began to play tennis for a while 😂 anyways happy new year! 🎉

yes!! along with bastard, i would LOVE to see Sweet Home by the same author, it’s my fav manhwa ever and it has a netflix drama so i feel like it would be more likely to get a print 😭

Chihayafuru is a must. That anime is one of my few 10/10’s… out of the 313 anime i have completed

so odd that the only baseball manga we have in english is cross game when there are SO many other series out there ,, but yes also saiki?? maybe they think the humor wouldn't translate as well but i think the anime is hilarious
Ugh Saiki K is such a comfort series for me, I’d kill for editions of that! I also second a lot of your other choices like Ai Yazawa, Chihayafuru and Ace of Diamond. I really want a lot of series that were lost bc companies shut down like CMX had Swan and GALS and Tokyopop had Kodocha and Gakuen Alice. I’d also kill for a Reborn reprint and continuation, but VIZ dropped that years ago so it’s a very slim slim possibility
agreed!! tokyopop shutting down and losing all their licenses really locked away so many good series (i'm glad they are back now in english and publishing mostly lgbt+ works but wish there was some way they could get back to their prime),, viz is so weird, they are reprinting gintama when they stopped publishing it a long time so maybe reborn has a chance as well?

Other than that, I'm mostly looking forward to obtaining the Humonculus omnibus volumes that are FINALLY getting a physical release in English.
there are very few horror type series i like but bastard is definitely one of them (the horizon being printed physically is actually what got me thinking darker series had a chance, i haven't read that one myself but i know it is notorious for being pretty heavy)

kimi to boku is such a special series to me so im like right there in the trenches with you praying for it to get picked up🙏 (and also while we're at it a continuation of the anime would be nice i am JUST saying-)

I'm also manifesting that Seven Seas would licence Kids on the Slope and Kimi to Boku by adding these series in their serveys. Kotaro Lives Alone was one of my favourite animes I watched last year, so that release would be great as well. Descending Stories was my favourite watch in 2022 (tnq so much for the rec) so in the future I'll probably will pick up the manga as well. The only reprint I really would love to see is Honey and Clover as more and more volumes are going out of print😭... Oh, and Run With the Wind light novel release would be great as well. Wanted to wish you a late Happy New Year as well!😊😊
yes ahhh i have the rest of the honey and clover volumes i need on order but no idea when reprints are coming (really good sign they are reprinting series like nana and banana fish recently though) and yes run with the wind novels would be great, loved the anime so much ,, happy new year!!

I know more manhwa is (thankfully) getting released but there are so many I've read online that are great and deserve to be released as well. 🙏

I'm collecting Descending Stories right now after completing the anime which has now become a new personal favourite of mine. I think the anime has the edge as the vocal inflections in the excellent voice performances, the shift in facial expressions and the musical accompaniment makes for a much more immersive presentation of something as niche as Rakugo for Western audiences who might have trouble conceptualising this artform from the manga. The manga utilises different fonts for the Rakugo performances and while I appreciate the translation of these stories being overseen by the Rakugo Association in Japan, nothing can beat hearing the real thing in my opinion. The mangaka actually made BL manga before Descending Stories and I can tell because the softness of her art really shines through.
I still think the manga is worth it for fans as the anime isn't actually licensed (you can't get it on DVD or Blu-ray and they never made an English dub), so the manga is the only English release of the series. There are a couple of extra minor scenes and cute afterward comics so what's there not to love. Also, finish season 2! Except for that one weird thing at the end, the series ended on a fantastic note that made me cry.
thank you so much for the insight! i ended up buying the whole manga so i plan to read it then finish off the anime! i'm glad i watched the first season though so i have a good idea of what rakugo is all about, like you mentioned i might not have gotten it as well if i just read the manga (and oof the first season already made me cry, can't wait to continue)

Initial D i enjoyed the anime a decent amount. especially the music lol. but the romance is pretty much a joke imo. Idk how the manga is tho but I feel like it needs the music to get me hype. So are Big Windup and Days both highly recommended from you? Honestly non of them really caught my interest before even tho i know about them but if it comes from you recommending I will try them for sure🤗
Daiya is still my fave sports series hah and I don't see that changing. Sure it doesnt show the lives of the characters outside of baseball but I love how it shows the details of all the games with the character development and character dynamics expertly weaved into them. I am sure there will be act 3. Terajima just needs to switch from weekly to bi weekly or some other format.
We've already talked about our gripes with daiya, baby steps (most underrated sports series to me), and chihayafuru not having English print 🤧it's the same with one outs. I definitely also saw the mandarin version in Taiwan before. Step up yo game west!

big windup is really good! totally different from daiya though, it is more of a slice of life / drama than about the sport so it isn't for everyone,, days is a super basic soccer manga but it is charming imo (i prefer whistle for soccer manga though)
Ngl was kinda shocked no one picked up Kotaro but then again it flew under the radar for most people (even though I love him ;-;) and I want Saiki K to be published but Viz hates printing pure comedy manga so it’s hard, Show Wa Shoten is a comedy that is being printed and I’m hoping that sells well and shows Viz that comedy can sell so they finally print stuff like Saiki
right?! idk why english publishers are so scared to publish comedy manga ... maybe they think it won't translate as well but i've had no issues reading series like hinamatsuri so idk
please please please viz, please publish saiki in english

It has everything you do not like - age gap, sexual assault, homophobia, etc. It's why no one really talks about it. That's because they will have to address all of that and the only real way to do that is to spoil most of the series.

Eyeshield 21 is something that has gone on and off and on again to my want to collect. I really just love the character designs although the games themselves are a bit silly haha.
Please save my earth is something I checked out because I also heard so many good things about it. It just confused me and wasn't very interesting for me.
Mars a series I want to get myself. I'm getting Eternal Sabbath first by the same author since its a bit cheaper. I swear I'm about to learn Spanish or French because they get so many good releases. Also praying One Outs gets a release here. I would love to read it
Honestly a lot of old publishers (Tokyopop, CMX, delray) had some banger series selections. Unfortunate that manga was not as big back then to keep them going. A lot of throwback/nostalgic series you mentioned in this vid for me LOL.

You said you really like sports manga. My favorite sports manga called Hajime No Ippo was licensed in Spain. I definitely recommend it since it’s about a shy kid who is bullied and joins a boxing gym just to know what it means to be strong.
i've heard of the series ofc but it is so long, that and prince of tennis are like the two classic longer sport series i've been ... intimidated by lol

I would like more of Adachi Mitsuru's manga to come to west in general. Well we are getting an anthology of his later in 2023 by denpa but still I would like a series, like his recent manga series Mix. Which has an anime getting a season 2. Anyways nice video. Baby steps I watched 1 episode and I liked it, never had the time to go back to it.
The anime of Baby Steps is alright. production quality really average. the op i like a lot. I did finish it then hop on the the manga immediately after. I definitely recommend the manga personally even tho English translations online aren't even complete..... still updating slowly rn.

@@tsukkinotes I have to start collecting the series again. I sold mine last month and a few other series to get my daughter Christmas/Birthday Presents. It hurt, but it was worth it, plus it when to someone who really wanted the series. I gave them a good price since I didn't want to overcharge.
Please Save My Earth is one of the greatest manga I've ever read. I hope you'll be able to find vol 1 soon. If not, it is available digitally on Amazon.

While you're waiting for a Battle Royale reprint, I highly recommend reading the original novel! It has a high page count, but never had any boring moments (imo) and it should be easily accessible atm unlike the manga!

Would love to see Chihayafuru printed in english! I found the bilingual editions to be kind of disappointing to be honest. I'm assuming because they're made for a Japanese audience to learn english, the writing is pretty stilted. I think bilingual editions often have a more 1:1 translation, which makes it easier to understand if you're translating from your own native language. They also don't have translation notes as they would if published in english, which are kind of needed given the series revolves a little known (to english audiences) game. (also, as you said, they're so slow releasing)

If you really want to get into Battle Royale I highly recommend reading the novel. It's quite long but It's so good I assure you it'd be worth it.

Don’t know if you’re aware but Please Save My Earth is coming out in Spanish. Sadly unless some older shoujo get an anime like Banana Fish that makes them more popular, the chance of them getting reprinted in English is probably low. I hope I’m wrong😢 I desperately want to read a lot of them.

Battle royal has a reprint in Spanish, they're omnibus editions being published by Ivrea Argentina
unfortunately it's almost impossible to import manga from latin america to the us (i have no idea why, we can't even use amazon mexico), so my only option is series printed in spain TT

But although i have not ordered from them yet i am certain Book Depository has free international shipping + has a lot of Ivrea Argentina titles. If you search for it as 'Battle royale deluxe' or 'Battle royale ivrea' it should pop there somewhere! I don't know what dialects of Spanish you are familiar with but Ivrea Arg. Is caracterized for its rioplatense slangs (Argentina-Uruguay) so just be aware. Hope this helps

(I'm mexican but i've read classic literature in many dialects so i am comfortable with any but most the manga i do have is castilian)

I would love for them to bring Kenichi the mightiest disciple over to English.. they have the anime and it just got re released on blu ray.. so maybe it could happen? It took a long time for Elfien Lied to get an English release after the anime lol so fingers crossed

I really really want saiki k manga in italian , i started the anime 2 years ago (I'm very slow,but I watch 1/2 episodes when I feel like it) and I really don't know why it isn't printed in other languages :').

The volumes here are Out of stock and hard to find, so i don't know if they will ever publish the sequel.. I hope so,I love them so much I need to read more😭

kpop is like the only music i listen to lol i used to have a 1000+ album collection but i've sold a lot of it, i just kept my favorites, for lightsticks i only have a couple from concerts i've been to like astro, block b, nct, and day6,, my ult groups are apink, exid, block b, and astro

I believe Act II of Ace of diamond ended abruptly due to the authors health. He is dealing with depression and could no longer continue writing it. He decided to prioritize his mental health. When act III does come it will no longer be weekly.
yes i knew it was something in that vein! ofc would want the author to prioritize his health, saw some sources say he was looking to publish under a different magazine, etc seems like a bit of a messy situation but hopefully it works out

i'd really like it if publishers just started publishing more shoujo and josei manga, but if i had to name one series specifically, hana to kuchizuke has really nice art
i also want kodansha to print more of their digital-only stuff, especially chihayafuru and nina the starry bride
for series i want to add to my collection, it's mostly just series that i'm not up-to-date on physically (so black clover, sacrificial princess and the king of beasts, children of the whales, etc.)
