    My favorite part about when you guys play GM is that you guys actually name the prospects you guys are sending in trades and explain why the other team would want them. Most channels would just say for a prospect and leave it at that.

    Mariners guy here. Just to clarify Jerry didn’t give Mitch that money San Fran did and then we traded Ray for him which hindsight sucks a bit now. Mitch the only bat Jerry’s given money to in recent years.
    Love the Arraez and Jose ideas because too many times batters struck out with guys on. Table setters are key and those two dudes capable of it or throw Jose at the back end and the deepen the lineup.
    It’s asinine the amount of Ms fans in Twitter and even in this comment section clutching their Dmo pearls. I love the guy but he’s an extremely streaky hitter, sure he offers flexibility but you get that with Raley, Jose, other young guys in the system. We went back to back to back with Polo Wong and Frazier at 2B none are great at defense. Go get guys who legit put bat to ball and stop striking out.

    It’s worth noting that comment from Adam Jude and Ryan Divish on only $16m to spend this offseason isn’t necessarily accurate. Subsequent reports came out that it’s closer to $20-25m…
    Also Haniger was a salary swap with Robbie Ray coming off injury with one year less commitment and $8m less AAV.

    I’d give up Bleis or Garcia but not both of them for 1 year if Helsley

    One more very important thing...
    Arraez had 250 total bases in 2024 by 161 singles, 32 doubles, 3 triples, and 4 HR with only 24 walks and 9 SB. Adding the walks and steals makes 283 total bases + walks + stolen bases, despite 200 hits, which was equal to a .346 OBP.
    Moore had 74 hits across 2/3 the plate appearances in 2024 (441 vs 672) by 37 singles,, 23 doubles, 4 triples, and 10 HR with 53 walks and 32 stolen bases. Adding the walks and steals makes 220 total bases + walks + steals, equal to a .320 OBP.
    Why do I bring this up? If Moore was given a full-time job he'd be on course for 330 total bases + walks + steals over the same number of plate appearances that Arraez had 283. This proves Moore is a better offensive player, as he offers more power, and when he gets on base, there is more ability to get into scoring position through stealing bases. Considering Arraez only hits singles, he's no more valuable than a guy with a low average and a high walk rate.
    At the end, they are both starting at 1B, in the case of Arraez between singles and walks he started 270 ft from home plate 185 times, Moore only 90 times, but in 2/3 the chances, equal to 135 over the same amount of time, but Moore's 32 SB means he'd have 48 over a full season. That means his 32 SB felt like 55 doubles, and 48 SB would feel like 71 doubles. Someone should create an alternative to OPS that considers base stealing because Moore's ability to steal at will makes him a far better player than Arraez.

    The M's are such a sad org. I've been a fan for over 30 years now. Decades of disappointment. Their inactivity and lack of budget is more of the same.

    As a Rangers fan, I love the Helsley for Duran and a prospect trade. Chris Martin and Robert Garcia are nice, but we need a true closer. And Duran doesn’t have a place on this roster

    Hyeseong Kim can be optioned to the minors which I think the primary reason the Dodgers did this. If they don't think he is ready this year they can put him in AA or AAA and save the 26 man roster spot. I essentially see them saying this is a 3Y/12.5M deal with options on a 50 FV prospect that can be promoted to the majors soon.

    The problem with the Mariners is Dipoto targets bad mid-level free agents... The Crawford extension was good, the Robles extension is amazing, we're paying him like an arb 2 platoon outfielder for the next two seasons, while he has the upside of being the best leadoff hitter in baseball with past #1 prospect status, all at the prime ages of 28-30 years old.

    You do realize the M's did not give Haniger his current contract deal right? They let him walk and sign with SF. We took back Haniger in the Robbie Ray trade last off season when they needed to free up salary so they could go sign Mitch Garver and cover the Polanco cost when the acquired him via trade. Everyone looks at the Haniger cost and say how bad it is and overall, it is real bad. In reality thought the trade saved the M's 10 million last season and another 10 million in Salary this season. Haniger is definitely not worth his contract, not worth even 1/3 of it and he should be salary dumped with a few prospects if need to be to offload his cost, but the Haniger thing was not an example of Mariners choosing to spend poorly in Free Agency. There are plenty of other examples to reference that shows their bad choices in Free Agency, but Haniger is not one of them.

      Good catch, appreciate it, but end of day, even taking on the money that they took on looks bad.

    • @shaunmesserli
      @shaunmesserli 3 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      Yeah I guess that’s where I take issue with how Mariners ownership and the front office has now spun how the Haniger remaining contract cost is problematic for them making other moves. Basically they took a 23 million salary cost for an injured pitcher in 2024 and turned it into 8 million of payroll saving for 2024, 10 million in Payroll savings for 2025 and 25 million in payroll savings in 2026. The trade was a Mariners salary dump and yes Haniger coming back was required to get to the amount of salary SF would accept to take a flier for an injured former Cy Young Starting pitcher. The trade even if Haniger had been cut immediately after the trade, it was a total savings of 43 million for Seattle of previously committed to $$.
      The bigger precedence Mariners ownership is making is, yes they might pay a starting pitcher a large 5 year contract but they have no intention of keeping the player for the that term.
      Robbie Ray traded after 2 years of contract. Now attempting to trade Castillo after 2 years of contract extension!
      There is a huge reason why you are seeing free agents won’t come here!

    what about this a deal with the marlins . going to the marlins Woo,H Ford ,Montes , Farmelo , Evans , Peete , Garver , Haniger to seattle , Alcantara , Perez , Garrett , Fotes , Edwards , Sanchaez this would benefit both teams free up space for the mariners and up pay for the marlins and help the mariners offensive wise ,plus the marlins are doing a fire sale , would allow the mariners to go out and sign a good first basemen and could move a picture or 2

  • @DrWestlake

    The Arraez for Hancock and Moore trade is stupid. It eats up $11M of our budget, it takes away our starting 3B as the roster is currently constructed, it moves our 6th starter, for a guy who hits singles and lacks power in a park that rewards power and punishes slap hitters (T-Mobile Park), all while forcing Raley to DH, where it limits the ability to rotate him to the outfield in late inning situations or following an injury. That deal would never happen because it hurts the bench to add an expensive slap hitter nobody wants.

    • @JustBaseballFans
      @JustBaseballFans  31 นาทีที่ผ่านมา

      Logan Evans is the six starter, Arraez could DH plenty as well. T-Mobile doesn't reward any hitters period. You also omit the most significant and strangest phenomenon of T-Mobile: Strikeouts are off the chart there for whatever reason. We also mentioned the Padres would pay it down. It's not a perfect move by any means, but there's really not many options left.

    Arraez cant even play a competent 1B, Not sure they would trade the defensive flexibility that DMo provides for a 1 trick pony (Singles) in Araez.

    The Orioles are turning into the St. Louis cardinals. That’s NOT a good thing. Jack has laid it out in previous videos. They have a few prime years to go for it and they lay an egg this offseason. Their front office is being lazy and unimaginative.

    • @selfwitness
      @selfwitness วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      Ironically, Elias was with the Cardinals, along with his right hand Sig Mejdal in both of their earlier days. Unfortunately, the Orioles are not turning into the champion Cardinals when these two were with them. They are turning into the Cardinals of today (who, interestingly, owned the Orioles in the last couple of years). I saw the Orioles during the days of Earl Weaver and the Cardinals through all of their great years since the 70s. I wish for both organizations to have that kind of culture again.

  • @selfwitness
    @selfwitness วันที่ผ่านมา

    You’re 100% right about questioning Elias, and in my opinion the entire “management” (on and off the field), There are cultist Oriole fans and water-carrying media in Baltimore that will defend the “regime” (on and off the field) no matter what. It was good for the rebuild but there is a reason why MLB teams make org/management changes after rebuilds. (See Texas)

    Dylan Moore was a 105 wRC+ for $3.4M/season vs Luis Arraez 109 wRC+ for $13.7M
    HOLD UP, what about defense... Moore +1.6 Def vs Arraez -18.1 Def, that's a two win difference defensively...
    BUT WAIT, there's more, what about baserunning? Mooe +4.1 BsR vs Arraez -1.0 BsR, so another half win difference.
    So the Mariners get better by trading a guy who averages 1.5 wins as our super utility player playing 4 days a week making $3-4M/year and can cover every position except catcher and pitcher, by spending x4 as much money on a slow, defensively incompetent slap hitter who following a peak performance year, was only worth 1 WAR after 672 PAs? AND add a previous 1st round starter to kill our budget and weaken our team? Watch a team and know their stadium before you give a offseason plan!

    Your GM takes on the cardinals are wonderful. But they won’t do shit and be subpar once again. Those moves make too much sense for the cards.
