I was going to mention that artillery isn't useless without the ballista, but then you found out anyway by defending with Pyre XD You can even pull off big brain plays where you _wait_ with your arrow towers until the end of the round, then fire two volleys back to back to make sure the enemy can't retreat!

In the battle in the stronghold you could have killed more but you didn't use your behemoths or rocks you hust chose to wait thier turn
