    Wow the 'tl' sound is so common in so many words!

    • @anowarjibbali

      It's because it's the ending used for most nouns. If the root noun ends in a consonant, it's '-tli', except if the consonant is l, than it combines into '-lli'

    There are nearly 2 million people in Mexico speak Nahuatl language. In fact, for a period under Spanish rule, Nahuatl was declared an official language alongside with Spanish. Many official documents in Spanish Mexico were written in both Nahuatl and Spanish. Then in 1696, Charles II of Spain decreed that Spanish should be the only official language. Mexican Spanish language has many Nahuatl loanwords. Many towns, cities and even states in Mexico are in Nahuatl names instead of Spanish name. Even the name Mexico is actually Nahuatl though the spelling in Nahuatl is Mehxico. Nahuatl language still has strong influence in Mexico.

    Fun fact for all those interested: Since July 2024, Nahuatl has been added on google translate. (Specifically the oriental dialect, from the Gulf of Mexico region in Huasteca)

    Hello Andy, could you possibly try to show some examples of the Mixteca-Puebla Hieroglyphs in their Central Mexican variant which was their native script, like writing the Glyphic counterpart to every word you post in the list and then among the full texts you could show hieroglyphic sentences such as those of the Telleriano-Remensis and Xolotl. You could find such information in the "Visual Lexicon of Aztec Hieroglyphs", an online resource, or in the book "Deciphering Aztec Hieroglyphs " from Gordon Whittaker. And have you thought about a Classical Ch'olti' video, and with glyphs. That would be cool!

    The aztecs were considered enemies to other neighboring indigenous groups, which is the reason they were defeated so easily with the help of the Spanish, who wouldn't be able to defeat them because they weren't actually enough soldiers, so the Spanish allied with these indigenous people to attack the Aztecs

    • @SirBoggins

      Yup and used that to enact authoritarian state policies upon their conquered subjects such as heavy taxes and other forms of subjugation; this does NOT, however, excuse the barbarity of Spanish imperialism against Nahuatl speakers and other Amerindians of Mexico. @Kalinggapura

    Sometimes I like to think, what would have happened if the relationship between the natives and spain was more peaceful? Like, yeah, the Aztec and the Inca were as colonial and authoritarian as Spain, but, what if instead of conquering both empires the Spanish tried to bring peace in the territory? America would be such a different continent

    • @loicrodriguez2532

      _« instead of conquering both empires the Spanish tried to bring peace in the territory »_ - Could you elaborate on your vision, please? It seems a little vague to me. Since _“bringing”_ implies intervening in their affairs anyway, what alternative _scenario_ are you envisioning? Because we’re speaking about 16th century cultures & societies at the end of the day, all parties had really exotic/different worldview compared to us now.

    Traditionally the "h" is more of a glottal stop than an actual "h" sound
    It is different in modern Huaxtēcapan Nāhuatl though, so I know why this is usually spoken that way today

    • @b0r00uw

      Not at all. Spanish and Nahuatl are entirely unrelated languages. Spanish is part of Romance branch of the Indo-European language family. While Nahuatl is part of the Uto-Aztecan language family. Specifically part of the southern Aztecan branch. Spanish and Nahuatl are as different as English is to Mandarin Chinese. No relationship whatsoever.

      im spanish and ur 100% right. People here unironically think they did a favour to the americas because they were uncivilised and we "gave them culture". Spanish patriotism is the worst thing on Earth, probably the reason why there are like 15 different independence movements and many people feel attached to their region and not their country (myself included) it's just such an awful history and the right wing is unironically proud of it

    • @XuanMelendez

Bravo. Viva cultura Europea, Aria, Azteca y cualquiera la demás❤
