    • @RobertCreating
      @RobertCreating  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +12

      Hey there, glad you enjoyed it!
      Tough question, it depends on the genre.
      Here are some of my all-time favorites:
      - The stranger, Albert Camus.
      - Tuesdays with Morrie, Mitch Albom.
      - Steppenwolf, Herman Hesse.
      - The tunnel, Ernesto Sabato.
      - A million miles in a thousand years, Donald Miller.
      Let me know what genres you are into, and I will send more recommendations!!

    A simple solution to that problem: Stop focusing on remembering. Start learning. If you don't know how to learn, then learn how to learn.

      How

    • @boomi3
      @boomi3 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      @@gregoryoruko Good question. People often tend to try find one simple solution to everything when it's about these questions. In fact this situation has a name: silver bullet approach. The thing is, there is no simple one answer to this, I'm sorry. Learning is really complicated. You basically need to research for some while. Trust me sometimes it's going to feel discomfortable and overwhelming, but it's like every other problem in life. Patience and consistency is the key.

    • @boomi3
      @boomi3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@gregoryoruko Also, I want to mention something else. So you have a problem right now, you want to learn how to learn. An advice I can give is to not rely on 10 minute youtube videos. You actually need to read books. Use both books and youtube, but you can't really master a topic without books. youtube videos are just basically a trailer

    very great video Robert :) I used to use a Kindle, read books, highlighted, Readwise synchronisation and everything dropped in Notion. Maybe lazy, maybe actually not interested, I rarely invested time to go through those highlights. I rediscovered reading actual printed books, being able to scroll back, re-read, see the whole context of my highlights. I will also manually insert them in Notion, but this additional layer of review is what it makes so valuable. Glad to see someone else doing this!

    I use Notion to add all my books to the database and append new notes and quotes through the Siri Shortcut to the one I’m currently reading. Every day another Siri Shortcuts Automation will read through all my book pages and get a random book quote to display in a notification. This is my workflow to remember the stuff that resonated with me throughout the reading process.

    As an indian biology, chemistry and physics final year high school student, I really have to memorise a lot of information and at the same time practice a lot of conceptual and critical thinking based questions... Also theoretical part consists of the major part in bio and chem, in these two subjects, i really need to remember a lot of information... Is it quite same in USA?! In USA also, do science students need to remember facts, or they just build conceptual clarity and remember nothing?! I'm really stressed and disgusted, that only here probably, we're asked to study this way, I'm feeling demotivated.. although I'm a good students, one of the toppers in class, but I'm really feeling stressed out since last 3-4 weeks...

    Writing is what I do also. Transferring doesn’t work because my reading is physics and math.
    Most videos of this type work on soft subject matters. It does not work on any material that is symbolic.

    I'm reading the Laws of Human Nature right now. I've got a long way to gooo but I'm really enjoying it. And this vid came at the perfect time, I needed these tips. So much in this book I want to remember but probably won't lol. I find that making these changes in the book in real time and journaling on my phone has helped :)

  • @habit_of_studying

    I have the same routine! I can only add that I ALWAYS add a note to the things I wanna highlight (saw this advice in some video and I really like this idea), like, what I had in mind at that moment, maybe some idea how can I use that, my attitude, what I felt, etc. And I try to summarize every chapter or 5-10 pages, depending on the book difficulty, first using my own words, and then I go through my highlights=notes, and add what I've forgotten but wanted to remember, and add some quotes if I think that they are important. And if I'm not lazy that day I reread what I've written, and try to make it as concise as possible, let's be honest no one re-reads 10 pages :D I usually try to make it fit to one or two.

    • @midnightdreams8136
      @midnightdreams8136 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      That's such a great advice indeed!! I also do that re-page summarization, although I'm not sure how helpful that is when many of these are now online, and I wonder if it would do anything for the information retention.

It also make me think while reading "What do I wanna remember and write down from these pages/this chapter? How would I say ALL that in 3-4 sentences?"

      Knowledge and wisdom are not the same. It’s perfectly consistent to say that Peterson has vast knowledge yet is unwise, and vice versa.

    Sorry, but aren't you stealing ideas/concepts from Ali Abdaal?

      I steal from lots of people 😉

      There's nothing original in this world anymore. Even Ali Abdaal himself could've "stolen" ideas from some other creators. We'll never know.

      If you read Ali’s book you will find loads of things from TH-cam and Reddit. Almost all of his stories you would have come across before online. Doesn’t mean it’s less valuable but if you going to make such comments. Buy Ali’s book. It’s a nice read and will keep from making comments like this.
