Yes!!!! I love Johnny's story. I made him a famous entertainer, made him marry Judith Ward, then turned him into an obnoxious youtuber and then when Judith got older she retired and they moved to the beach

Whenever I get in the game, I edit the Goths and the Landgraabs. I hated their looks... But I love this look now for them!

@@BengtBagels the skintone did piss me off a bit but I never saw anyone else mention it- you'll notice in the sims 2, aka one of Bella and Cassandra's most iconic appearances, both their skintones are VERY warm. they dont look ashy at all.
edit: also, being goth or alternative doesn't mean pale / desaturated in skin too.
@@BengtBagels To be fair as a person who's mixed, with my skin in around the same range as Bella Goth, ashyness like that is pretty reflective of how much sun you get. I get no sun, and am ashy as all Hell

Age up Alexander, then look at him from the side. They did him dirty. You'd think after 8 years of this game they'd know that toddlers and children don't look anything like their adult form. There's even a CAS "toddler to adult" challenge because of this.

My only complaints about the Goth Update are that Bella is no longer in her Signature Red dress, Alexander ages up poorly and while I appreciate that Bella and Cassandra have darker skin tones, they look a bit ashy
apparently they based Bella's off of ts3, not ts2

Okay, I’m from Alaska and the moodlet lamp is like Happy Lights! In places that don’t get a lot of sun, happy lights give you UV rays that simulates sunlight to produce natural Vitamin D that you’re probably lacking in higher latitudes. So this tiny detail is actually so cool and realistic!
That’s actually so cool. I’m from Arizona (as polar opposite as you can get lol) so I have no idea this was a thing. You learn something new everyday!

They did Alexander dirty! He’s spot on as a kid but as a teen he’s a completely different sim!
I've tried using genetics to make kids with Bella and Mortimer, both the old versions and the new and honestly, no matter how many times I click "randomise son" their sons are always kinda fugly as a teen/adult 😆😆 idk what it is

@@hesterwright3674 that's in most cases just sims genetics.. it's very rare for my born in game male sims to look good.. though it does happen sometimes most of the time they end up looking like an absolute toe.. though i do often go in and change them around because i just cannot i did recently have one that looked fine though in my current save he was my second generation heir and actually was pretty good looking. (another odd thing is shoulders for me they often end up with really broad shoulders so if they have a female child it just ends up looking odd when you put certain clothes on said sim )

The irony is the problem with Bella was that her skintone was not warm enough and they actually made it cooler. darker yes, but cooler. Bella is meant to be Mediterranean with a warm olive tone, they did not meet this expectation and instead it comes across as ashy (which given their track record with skin tones is very disappointing) ESPECIALLY since they got this feedback of her looking ashy when they revealed the concept art questionable paint over that people were already not vibing with as she was not recognisable as Bella!
I'm glad someone else noticed this. When I first saw her new skintone, I was put off by it and I didn't know why. Poor Bella is ASHY 👀
Found a chart comparison on Reddit. It seems the devs matched their skintones with their Sims 3 version instead of Sims 2, which what everyone was expecting

@@punkrockerlego that’s disappointing to me too as I felt the Sims 3 versions weren’t accurate to the original and The Sims 2 Bella either which is wildly frustrating to me as The Goths from Sims 1 and 2 are the most iconic iterations of the family

Tbh she's supposed to be around the same age as Mortimer, but there's a few reason why they aren't.
Gameplay-wise, Bella's had two kids. Mortimer would've aged up before her.
Lore-wise, I think Bella uses aging aids like Elixirs of Life, Potions of Youth, etc. In some variants she's able to use magic like the seance table.
And Mortimer is a scientist in some versions. I think at some point an experiment made him age faster. That or he drank the Elixir of Life with negative aspiration.
I am also annoyed that they did not add likes and dislikes. I also thought that Cassandras black and grey wardrobe was a rebellion against her Mom and her obsession with red. So it seems weird to me that she now suddenly also dresses in red and black.
I also hoped that they would give the family some more skills and maybe relationships. That was a reach goal but it seems odd to me that the NPC have such random skills that make no sense to me. Bella should have some parenting skill if you have Parenthood and Mortimer is supposed to be a writer but no writing skill if I remember correctly. Makes no sense for someone this established. We are not allowed to start a game playing with the NPCs anyway so why not give them a better fuller backstory with real careers and skills. It would be funny to me if the Goth household had already a maid service and if I started playing with them it would just show up.

Sentiments are a great way to add lore that they should take advantage of!! Like johnny zest and the Landgraabs could have that festering grudge sentiment. I really hope they use their own mechanics to bring these townies to (better) life!
I think they dug their own grave by adding those features to different packs. now it's harder to make the base game better, sadly....
im still feeling a little 50/50 on the “updating townies” idea, it could be a good thing but ill still miss the old charm that a lot of the original townies bring. ill admit that bella goth got yassified like hell and it came out amazing, but it’ll be surreal seeing the familiar old faces in the sims have complete wardrobe makeovers.

It would be nice if everytime you start a new Game you can choose if you want the old look or new look. Or make a custom section where you can choose. Like you can have everyone else have the New look except for the Goth Family.

@@MiloKuroshiro I mean Sims lore is a lot more than that, take Sims 2 for example, with memories and wants and fears. And Sims 3 with the scrapbook and memories and family trees. And each of these games also had complex personalities for these characters

Even if they dont go and revamp all of the townies, i would love a fashion update. 2014 fashion feels so outdated already, specially on townies like the laandgrabs and the calientes, that are supposed to be fashionable. Like the Calientes are supposed to be these pretty, young ladies and i feel it would make sense for their outfits to reflect that in 2022 context. The landgraabs are a rich family and i would love their clothes to reflect that too, like Nancy could definetely feel the kind of woman who shows her wealth through her straight-off-the-runway clothes. I thnk that would be pretty nice.
The caliente's fashion in sims 2 Looks more modern than the one theyre wearing today.. like how does that make sense?

9:14 the issue with the lamp’s “lighting” is that it isn’t actually lighting. It’s a translucent image on a flat plane that’s locked to the angle of the camera, but it cuts through the floor which is why it looks like it stops so suddenly.
If I was Morty, I’d want a paternity test the minute that kid aged up, lol

imo just because content is free doesn’t excuse it being poorly made, personally id rather have no free table than a free table that they either half-assed, or weren’t given the time to finish properly
You know now that you mention it, this whole thing is kind of odd. Cause if you were just going to add some new outfits and skin tones you probably didn't need a year to roll out one family. Appreciate you doing it though. Also I started playing the Sims when the pandemic hit so I had no idea seasons only came out in 2018????? Seems like that should've been one of the first expansion packs.
That's not how things work in a giant company like EA and Maxis. Think like that: Every small change to be done needs to have a written plan sent, approved, a team and a budget alocated, a time slot alocated, a budget, team and time for QA and a budget and slot for rolling it in (now with the Delivery Express this last one is remedied and that's why it exists). The most insignificat things, if it's not a Level 0 issue, take something like 6 months.
And the thing with Seasons is that, after Get to Work and Get Together (6 months cycle) were heavily criticized for being pretty bad content-wise, they started a 9 to 10 month cycle. City Living(2016), Cats and Dogs(2017) and Seasons(2018) were the only Expansions released in their year.

Ngl I kinda liked the fact that Alexander’s eyebrows didnt used to match. I liked the fan theory that I saw once where someone said it was like the Goths had had him dye his hair black to match the rest of them haha.
But all laughs aside I am super stoked that even one family of townies got refreshed :)
i hope eliza and bob are updated!! i want their relationship to actually reflect their lore, and i think it’d be great for eliza to start out being pregnant and not know! how does their relationship change if iggy arrived unexpectedly? i feel like it writes itself, i don’t know why it wasn’t already like that

I like the idea of them refreshing the townies, but if they refresh ALL of them, I wouldn't like that. People like Nancy and Eliza are just to iconic to change.

I know they already have the Calientes planned for a refresh, but I REALLY hope they change Liberty’s skin tone soon because they whitewashed the hell out of her compared to her MySims counterpart (+ arguably Yuki too, although they only really share the name 🤷🏽♀️
That reminds me. I would like if they change the Pancake Family. Add their Son and have the Relationship bar be low and shit. Oh and Liberty. I don't really like her in my game. So I just delete her. It would be nice to have her and she finds a man.

Theres a lot of sims that need make overs. My personal picks are Dustin Broke (literally does not look like Dustin at all!) and Holly Alto (Uh... who is this imposter?)

oh the moodlit lamp looks just like the sun lamp I use for my SADS in winter! I like that it gives off a cheerful moodlet.
Personally I've been with the TS4 Goth Family since before ghosts or pools were even in the game. It's been about 8 years at this point. I'm ready for something new and I actually like their take on Bella in a lotta aspects. I don't think I've ever seen a realistic take on her like this. She might not wear the dress she had on when Cassandra was still a child, but she's definitely got it locked up somewhere safe. Body wise, I know my own mom had reduction a while after having 2 kids. Bella to me has always felt like a natural beauty rather than someone who'd get a lotta work done. I think that fits Nancy Landgraab way more.
Tbh I think Mortimer got the worst outfit. The old one made him look like he lives in a cold haunted mansion. Very formal, but kinda comfy. But now he looks real plain. He definitely stands out, but he looks like he part of Mobwives and his winterwear makes me think "oh he's definitely gonna murder his wife".
The old family are still in the game. The Gallery especially wouldn't let them disappear. It's a bit of a pill to swallow knowing that brand new player now may be unfamiliar with the Bella we've basically grown up on, but it's ok. Things change, new ideas are thrown in. It'd be impossible for them to please everyone.
There's a theory in Sims 2 about Mortimer murdering Bella because she cheated on him.
@@arieltales8952 Yeah, fun theory but doesn't hold up well. If I remember right, Bella rejected Don before she disappeared. She was over his house to welcome him to the neighborhood.
But if that's the ref they were going for with the winter wear it definitely made me laugh
@@AEwell5858 Bella rejected making out with Don, but a Sim in TS2 requires flirting and a first kiss to enable this option.
Also, it is plausible Bella and Skip Broke had a romance.
@@arieltales8952 In TS2 you only have one First Kiss and that gets locked in. For Don that was Nina, which I actually didn't know they knew each other that long. But you can actually go straight into making out with another sim if you've built enough relationship (making out also doubles as a "first kiss" with a new sim in the memories). Seems to me that they were getting along and Don started hitting on her real hard.
Skip and Bella? K you've lost me. As far as I can tell the Brokes and Goths don't know each other. Brandi knows the Calientes, but that's kinda it. There's a small connection in that they're both missing/dead/displaced Sims and both technically have two versions within the game. Skip Broke/Skip Broke (hidden) and Bella Goth (Pleasantview)/Bella Goth (Strangetown) with this one being an actual clone
Also, I saw in the start up menu they have added East Asian facial features

Still miss Bella’s iconic dress and hair. I do like the skin tone change tho. It fits her original design better. And Morty looks good too. Cass didn’t change too much, but my gosh Alexander looks so bad in comparison-

I prefer them now and I think the Caliente's need a refresh. I hope they don't make Don uglier.
However, I would prefer EA added more options in CAS like making lower noses, bigger foreheads, more eyes, lips, cheeks, etc. Also, individual bios and create a style. The skin tones and the likes and dislikes updates received fandom's great reactions that are evidence CAS requires more options to be added.
Also lore wise- I'd love to see Johnny Zest have like 1-2 class credits in university showing that he dropped out.

I love Casandra but she's a little bit darker than Bella and personally when I played the sims 2 Casandra with her hair down and without glasses is literally like Bella, even tho, I like her but it's a little bit weird, and PLEASE SIMS TEAM give her proper ponytails :'((((

bella and cassandra look ashy and whoever did alexander paid no attention to the way he looks aged up, his features are exaggerated and he doesn’t look related to the family.
I'm happy that you brought up what they actually said about the townie makeover, because I remembered they mentioned it, but forgot how detailed they told it would be. I would not have realized how meh this update was compared to what was promised without you pointing it out!

I don't know how I feel about this. Obviously the acknowledging of the white washing and changing that is a good thing, but it feels like they made them too different from how they were before, especially Alexander. Like, that's a whole different sim

The sdx drp furniture could be great for a kid's hangout place. Like cafe where parents can have a cup and lots of toys and activities for the children (toddlers). Those things exist irl so it might be cute.

The Caliente's desperately need a makeover
I have no clue what Cassandra goth was supposed to be, but if she was supposed to be a nerd then her clothes wouldn't have to be "trendy". Not all Sims have to be trendy, but for some reason they all end up being fashionistas.
I always pictured her as a nerdy goth girl. A bit like Abby from NCIS.

She’s supposed to be like Wednesday Addams - the only version of of her that fits that concept is her adult version in TS2. I don’t understand the “nerdy” thing they’ve done here, at all.
I love how you miss her iconic hair and "found" it in formal wear, even tho that is NOT her former hairstyle ... so it couldnt have been that iconic xD
I would love them to add a lot more lore, I would even like to see things like a couple dead relaitve in the tree, like maybe some people that are ALREADY ghosts in the game, or just to see in the family tree some past ancestors of people
love that they look more natural now (not bella's body but just the way they all are dressed)
I update my townies anyway. For example, I use the Eco Lifestyle pack to update Moira Fyres because it seems to fit her much better than her given outfits. I am going to have to save some of the townies before they change them to something I don't like.
I think all current townies are already in the gallery in their "original" Form, anyway, so you don't have to worry about doing it yourself

simsie, alexander goth was not supposed to have dark skin tone but the same as mortimer, just like TS2. bella and cassandra are okay though
I don't know how I feel about this honestly... Other than fixing the whitewashing, that's a definitive positive. But other than that I'm not sure how much I like this. Not that any of it is bad, I just don't do well with change, even in video games lol
My headcanon: Johnny Zest is either Nancy's little brother, or he's her cousin via the other Landgraabs referenced across the rest of the game.
I always surmised that it was Mr. landgrab’s son from a previous marriage before Nancy.
@@lehayura This is also quite a juicy idea. I once set up a save file with the full landgraab tree from the wiki, and iirc I made Johnny Zest one of the Dudleys? It was over a year ago so I don't remember well, but he was Nancy's second cousin.
I LOVE that they're updating townies! Although I'm a little annoyed about the timing since I just caved and updated the Goths for myself literally last week. As far as the not-bump-mapped table, is it likely done that way on purpose to reduce the polygon count? I learned from lilsimsie videos that part of the reason some of the EA-made houses are so terrible is because they test them to run on minimum-spec computers, so I would think the new table has a simplified mesh for the same reason?
I'm also intrigued by this idea that they've somehow managed to do Alexander dirtier than they did before. Old Alexander looked ABSURD as an adult, and I wouldn't have thought they could make that worse. Half of me wants to go age him up and see, the other half wonders if I would rather not know. Thanks for the existential crisis, TH-cam comments section!
They probably waited this long because TS4 is coming to an end and they just have more time for it now. Also the likes/dislikes...they probably left them blank so WE can give them instead of having them already being there.

As someone who has only ever played the sims 4, this freaks me out… I’d love for them to add lore but they COMPLETELY changed Cassandra and Alexander. I will definitely go to the gallery and change them back everytime I play with them…
The moodlet lamp reminds me of Vit D lamps people use in winter.

I never play with townies, so had no idea that Johnny Zest was related to the Landgrabs (and I've been playing since Sims 1)!
These Landgraabs, and Johnny in particular, were not in previous games.. there are several other Malcolms, but none of them match Sims 4 Malcolm, and Sims 3 Nancy was a business woman, not a criminal, iirc, with 3's Geoffrey being a doctor too, they are simply different sims who happen to have the same names .. same with Sims 4 Calientes. They are SO far removed from their Sims 2 counterparts, i didn't want to believe they were actually supposed to be the same sims 🤮 Dina, Nina and Don Lothario were my favourite townies after the Pleasants, too. When i start a new save now, I usually just replace them with less horrible versions 😆
That line on the lamp happens on all the stuff that has like a glowing aura. The aura collides with the surface and it gets cut off.

I hope so man. I can't believe I killed Nina after making her my Enemy. Glad I found a Version on the Gallery which looks good. The Hair she has now is iconic but I just hate the way she looks. Her face pisses me off. I've seen a lot of people use Katrina's Hair. Dunno if I'll change back to the Original hair. Dina I changed her myself. Made her a little darker. Not too much but I did. Changed that Cheesy Yellow and Gave her better Hair. And the Iconic black Dress. I think I changed a little too much. That Cake 👀
I think the old Bella was much better, all they would have had to do was change her skin tone.
I wish that they updated all the townies in one update, or at least by world. I hate having to update every time I open my game. Maybe that's just because of my slow internet. BUT IM SO EXCITED IF FOR ANY WEREWOLVES. It gets in so well with sims AND I can finally have my Twilight dreams come true

candy behr's body type is exactly like candy asmus' body, and shes a real person, id just like to see even more diversity. more very thin sims, more highly heavy sims, the more diverse the more realistic, the problem is all sims kind of look the same pre-townie update
I think you might be forgetting just how insane Candy Behr’s waist is… I looked up that candy Asmus person and it’s a huge stretch to say her body is ‘exactly’ the same lol she has a small waist but the kind of small waist a real person can have (without extreme intervention)
@@freydobaggins6252 it depends who's aspect you look at, both candy's are extremely skinny, asmus is also very tall to go with it and the sims doesn't have height sliders built in, there could be a lot more realism overall
@@freydobaggins6252 my final input is i have tons of body preset mods for all different kinds of bodies, and the sims itself built in isn't meant for that kind of realism yet even if we want it to be, they're working towards things and i don't think candy behr's body should stay exactly the same but i also don't think her body currently is that insane or unrealistic, it's literally an issue with slider limits that she looks unbalanced because there's not a good way to change the ribcage or even great hip mechanics yet. sadly
I think because the sims team has been working on the revamp for such a long time, possibly even before the likes and dislikes.
An idea for the moodlit lamp is to use it for an indoor pool-type area. Having a laying lawn chair with 2-4 moodlit lamps around the chair as a mock sun station. Cheers :)
I didn't know about the table but I was surprised to see the chair. I also like the Goth update but I'd like to see it with the previous Alexander as he seemed to take more after Mortimer.

they were severely whitewashed tho? also, imo Cassie was done seriously dirty by her previous look

@@jackiecozzie4803 I don't mind, because I usually always get rid of the townies anyway, but some things could have stayed unchanged, like Bella's hair and iconic dress. Especially Bella isnt even recognizable if you run into her in town!
