I converted my 28” span rubber-powered Kawasaki Tony to electric r/c. It weighed 31g (without a prop or rubber motor) before conversion, and 62g afterwards. The 300 mah 2s battery weighs 16g giving a flying weight of 88g. The result has been a spectacular success. I fly it slowly and scale, and flights last 15 minutes - or longer if there’s any lift. It can only be flown in calm conditions, despite that, I’ve logged over 11 hours in a month. The rx/esc is a Crossover unit bought in a combo set-up from Oversky. Total weight of the Rx/esc, motor, mount, prop and prop saver is 11g. As soon as I get some decent flight footage I will finish the video I am making on this project. I also converted a 28” Wildcat. This one flies fine but not as well as the Tony. The drag if the wide radial-engined nose is the culprit. So, build them as light and sleek as possible.

I just discovered your channel today and I'm impressed by all the useful info for this size class - something that I haven't seen covered much before. This has really inspired me to see what I can achieve! Unfortunately, I've been struggling to find motors smaller than 25 grams and servos lighter than 6g, but it's still possible to create a decent aircraft within this weight limit!.
Thanks for your comment. I used to get my servos from Hobbyking but they seem to have supply issues. So I got the EMAX ES9051 4.3g Servos from AliExpress and they work well. For motors, I use mainly SunnySky 2302 (16g in weight and 300g+ of thrust) and 2304 (20g) if needing more power (both with a 8"-4 prop). Good luck with your project.
Interesting video... and interesting that it just randomly popped up in my feed... ....those TH-cam algorithms occasionally work in my favor. Virtually all my building and flying of late has been in the "sub250g" class. I like the challenge... it opens up more fly sites for me, and I simply want to stay away from the regulatory overreach being inflicted on us, with more draconian rules coming down the pike. I have found most of the limitations and challenges that you have... but nothing insurmountable... forces resourcefulness and creativity. I'm a traditional balsa builder, but in the pursuit of lightness have branched out into using other materials... foamboard (not a big fan... hard to make a good looking plane, but they fly)... and Depron (better, but unforgiving and hard to come by). So, I appreciate the content and hope to see more... Enjoy...
Subscribed. Please make more videos. In my country (UK) you need to register with the authorities even under 250g if it has an onboard camera. Personally I am a club member, fully insured and registered. It's a minor inconvenience and now I can fly "normal" sized model aircraft legally. However there is something interesting and challenging about trying to build under the 250g limit which I do enjoy simply for the sake of it. Also, when I build bigger models, I now build them MUCH lighter than I would have in the past due to the experience gained on the sub250g models. Keep up with the videos, maybe one day I will make better models as a result. :D
It's 1.9 meters and just under 250g. To keep it lightweight I used a 2S 500mAh battery and small brushless motor. You also need lightweight covering material and I use the Parklite Ultracote. Thanks.

make sure they use a digital calibrated rc aircraft scale inside a isolated vacuum chamber, remember the bad cops might try to slip a extra part on the scale to make it wieght more !
just how many kites can I tether and fly at the same time from MY property? Is there a restriction on the gauge of wire I use? What if I want to put my butt on the line and fly in my kite?
So who's going to be the RC plane police ? I've been driving around for two year with out dated plates and never got stopped, of course I have them in my glove box I just forget to put them on...so I'm not to afraid of the RC police these days. Although I'll try real had to comply, but at 70 it's hard to get things right. Thank god there no bail jail, because I spent all my fixed income on RC planes...

People enjoy this hobby in different ways. Regulations apply to people in different ways depending on where they live. And people choose to deal with laws and regulations in their own ways. There is no need to be disrespectful.
i'd rather just accept the challenge and follow the regulations like a decent human being. I don't feel a need to break rules and run the risk of getting a fine or my stuff confiscated for a hobby. Plus it's nice to tell aero-karens to suck a lemon
@Angelum Band Agreed. Last summer I was flying my 400gram foambaord plane and someone pulled up and called the cops on me. When the police showed up they just sat there and watched me fly 🤪. At the time I had no clue there was a weight limit. I have recently started to only make planes under 250grams... just in case the cops aren't too keen about planes.

Use 3 or 4 gram servos. Use 3mm depron for fuse and 6mm depron for wing. Take full size receivers out of their case

Liear servos can shave many grams off a build, ive soldered normal servo plugs to them and they work well when you don't need a mile of travel

I would worry about insurance companies since they will not cover a claim if you operated your plane outside of the regulations.
