    Releasing the character creator early and for free would be the best marketing. That would get people engaged. They’ll want to play the story for the character they’ve created. Just last night I went to create a character for another Inquisition run and when she got into the world she looked like a clown so I had to start all over again. If I could avoid that in the next game, that would be a preferable state for affairs.
    Actually if someone wants to make a game that is just a character creator with good music, I would probably pay a couple dollars for that.

      I downloaded the Saint's Row character creator just to chill out. I have no intention of ever playing that game, but it's fun to just create characters (along with clothing choices). You'll probably have to provide your own music, though.

    I'm with you, i can sit down and get real comfy in that character creator, as long as it takes. its part of the fun. Also I cant rush my Inquisitor. I need her to be 10/10 gorgeous so that Solas can regret everything.

    Them pulling a Dragon’s Dogma 2 and releasing the character creator would be such a BIG deal. Like all the promotion from us fans just posting all our characters and making comments and extended marketing by us.

    The beauty of releasing a free CC demo from a marketing standpoint is players would fall right into the sunk cost fallacy. Meaning, get them to invest so much effort upfront, that the only logical conclusion is to buy the game; else they will have wasted their time. 💡

    • @GabrielPassarelliG
      @GabrielPassarelliG หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      Not only that. Graphics can impress. You can get really satisfied with how your Rook looks, and if they share it with the Inquisitor and worldstate customization, those things together could convince people to play the story. Especially if they excel in showing our characters as members of those factions, showing our specializations and an example of equipament from higher levels. Then there is sound and music. If the UI sounds are soothing and the music is beautiful and engaging, people can get even more inclined to play the full game.

      @mikecassidy9185 I've followed Dragon Age fans who were involved in the beta testing for a long time. They're finally getting to talk about the game and they keep saying how much they enjoyed the snippets they played and how excited they are to play the full story. We're talking people like me who are far more interested in the story. So given they've has there hands on parts of the game, some much deeper in than the articles I really want to believe they're right about the story being good. These are people who I've always followed for Lore and story discussion and they're still very on brand talking about Lore and story stuff so can't really say anything about the gameplay

      @@hannahevertson8306 While I think this game will be at least good, if not great, it's entirely possible that these beta testers are saying what Bioware want them to. I'm not saying they are, but I am saying, keep your expectations in check.

    • @hannahevertson8306
      @hannahevertson8306 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      @jeremygott7709 honestly I'm pretty sure they're in check. While I'm not any kind of MMO player, so had nothing to do with Anthem. I'm well aware of just what Andromeda turned out to be. I'm certainly going to give this game a chance, and I'm finding I have hope for it. Hope, however, doesn't mean going in with hugely high expectations.

  • @nerdlydelicious1876
    @nerdlydelicious1876 หลายเดือนก่อน +27

    I don’t know how realistic it would be for BioWare to release the character creator early, but it would definitely be a good PR move. After Anthem and Andromeda, BioWare desperately needs a W, and the more positive press they can generate about Veilguard before release, the better.

    Jack, you're forgetting that Veilguard will let you change Rook's appearance on the fly. So there's going to be no fear of messing up and having to restart. As for me, I have already created my Rook in DA2 and Inquisition and I'm playing through each as him just to get a feel for the play-style (also only bringing two party companions along). I have also already MoT'd my canon Inquisitor to look ten years older. So it shouldn't take me long in the CC to get my Rook into the game. For Inquisition I was creating my Inquisitor from scratch, and that took me three hours, part of which was just picking a good name. This time around I have a list of names ready. BUT!!! I still think BioWare should go with your idea and release the CC early so players can get everything ready for import. I think they should let us recreate the Hero and Champion as well.

  • @virginiamurr3703

    This is a really BIG ASK. I don't want ANYTHING to further delay DAV. We don't need a Character Creator it's a NICE TO HAVE. We NEED DAV to be released on schedule this FALL 2024! If they already had it in their production schedule FINE. This would further delay DAV if they did not plan for it. There is A LOT of work in developing a demo separate from the production release of a game. If they already planned to do that and it's on their production schedule, GREAT! I could have sworn Dragon Age Origins has a standalone Character Creator for the PC, with mod capability. What it lacked was the ability to save your character, instead just giving you the opportunity to experiment with it a bit and record your numbers on a Word document or such.
    What I'm mostly hoping for is the Mass Effect Face Code system, allowing us to FAR more easily save faces we're really fond of, if they're not going to go the Dragon's Dogma 2 route and just save the characters' faces to be used later (ten character limit).

    I agree with what you said, if they would release CC they would quell some fears the fandom expressed. I personally would love it, but I think there was some post by devs where it was more alluded that CC will be showed but it will not be demo playable...But what I think they could do and it would again cater to public by providing more information about game and have people start planning their Rook's, is release background hisories for Rook. We have factions but do not have any information on race backgrounds, how it ties to factions, surnames etc. For me this is essential information for my Rook. I cannot start planning Rook history and who they are if I do not know how much they are going to be flashed out directly in game (set past events that got them to faction, etc.). I mean I could do it and just come up with whole history only have it retconned on Day 1 once I see what actual backgrounds are available. But again this is something ot all funs do, not everyone is planning ahead, creating the character, but it would be nice :)

    I'd love a character creator. Bioware is making some pretty big claims about their character creator this time around and it'd be nice to see them put their money where their mouth is and actually show us what we can do. Let us make our Rooks and recreate older versions of our Inquisitors. I spend hours in character creators that promise less, so I'd be all for this.
    I don't agree about letting us hear the voice lines for the different Rook voices though...The actors are currently on strike, EA is one of the biggest hold outs on any meaningful agreements and I think it'd be scummy of them. Yes, it's previously recorded dialog for a mostly finished game, but it still feels like it'd be using their work to promote the game while they're on strike and actively not promoting the game as part of the strike.

    I personally don't care for a character demo; and I usually spend actual hours in it. It won't tick off any "want to play dragon age" feelings I have as I won't get to actually play, and I kind of don't see why the push for this 'cause like... I don't know, seems redundant.

    I had sooooo much fun with Dragons Dogma 2's character creator. Lol I hope Bioware does this too! That would be so awesome.

    So good to have height differences in the character creation. One of the few disappointments I have with some of my favorite games is not only not being able to change the height, but also all the npcs are all the same height.

    Luckily Dragon Age The Veilguard is in Frostbite the same engine Dragon Age Inquisition is built on. So why not upgrade the DAI engine and release an engine update giving access to the character creator from The Veilguard probably some hair assets included. That then let veteran players play DAI with their new Inquisitor look and lets you build your new Rook ready for The Veilguard. The patient player community and EA/Bioware both WIN.....

    Unless the CC sucks ass, it’s a win win situation. We can create our Rooks and BioWare generates more hype and traction.

    Hopefully a Demo will come in either August or September. I just want to make sure that Veilguard has all of the customization options that the news updates promised. I bet it will be a bit similar to the character creators in games such as Baldur's Gate 3, Hogwarts Legacy, Fenyx Immortal Rising and Dragon's Dogma 2. I just want to make My Elven Rook look like Denji from Chainsaw Man, My Dwarven Rook look like Sophitia from Soul Calibur, My Human Rook look like Touka from Tokyo Ghoul and My Qunari Rook look like Goliath from Gargoyles.

    The marketing efforts so far have definitely stumbled out of the gate. The key to building real hype is to focus on showcasing more of the actual gameplay. Most players don't read written interviews, so even an hour-long interview with a developer in Game Informer won't make a significant impact. To generate real excitement, it's crucial to start prominently displaying the game itself.

    What I do now, after my second playthrough of Elden Ring, is type in hot character creator into TH-cam, and follow a step by step guide of how they did it haha. Nothing worse than spending all that time in the creator, and then as soon as the game starts, your character looks nothing like what you envisioned. I only recently finished inquisition for the first time, and had to change her face three times via the emporium. Couldn’t do the TH-cam character method this time though due to parts of the character creator being a bit crap (the bit where you have to actually manipulate the angles of the face).

    My problem is not spending too much time in the character creator, it's playing the first two levels/dungeons 10 times, as I try out different characters until I find the right one. No one can save me from myself. I also hated in Inquisition how you couldn't tell that lips would look super glossy and the green eyes were piercing and unnatural until your character got out of prison and into the sunlight.

    I really need that character creator demo the rook in the gameplay trailer looked really good but I am undecided on my rook i need to see what i am working with and the surnames attached to the backgrounds so i can craft their lore. It would be great pr as well i don't think i'm going to get the game on release i'll probably wait to get a better look at it but a demo might get me hyped enough to buy on release

    Would definitely love to have the CC before the game. I will probs spend hours in there so will be good to take my time b4 getting into the game! I reckon my Inqusisitor will take longer than my Rook as ive spent years and many gameplays prefecting her 😂

    Though the early CC from Dragon's Dogma was cool, I don't need it in Veilguard. Creating the character is part of the game, so I'm happy to start day one and take as much time as I need to make my Rook. It would be great marketing though, as you said.

    I would love a demo character creater. I got the DD2 one and then bought the game even though I haven't played Dragon's Dogma before, so I think that would work for DAV too. Also I want to be able to spend as long as I want creating my Rook and my Inquisitor before DAV is released so I can just import them and start playing straight away.

    A free demo is a great way for us to get a feeling for if our device can even run the game 😅
    I'm pretty sure I remember Mark Darrah talking about why many games now don't tend to release demos (compared to the past)... Title is "Demos, Early Access, Betas: Things that are harder"
    The Keep already has DAO's character creator as a stand-alone app, putting DATV's there (along with Steam/etc) would also get new fans to peek into the extensive franchise just by logging in to the Keep.
    It's also a great idea for those of us who can't take leave off work or have classes when the game releases: having the possibility to dedicate even 20 minutes a day early in the character creation would allow us to start playing without worrying too much about "oh Maker I need to silence every spoiler hashtag and mute my mutuals to not get spoiled in the first week" because we're still not past the prologue 😂

    I actually would be okay with the deluxe edition having early access. It's a standard for a lot of games at this point. (And i kind of like being able to get the early access. Although, i would've bought the expensive edition anyways.)

    EA have that big ol' Star Wars game coming out before Veilguard, and I can't imagine they want to go heavy into marketing untill that's been out for a little while. They're not going to want to be competing against their own other big single player game.

  • @liesbethverlaeckt8083

    This is obviously the best solution!
    Aside from all the other great points you've mentioned, it would also be a good way to soothe the worries of those people who still think the game will be bad because of the artstyle in the companion reveal trailer. We already know the style in-game will be different, but there's bound to be people who just stopped caring after that, who have made up their minds that they won't like it.
    So what better way to change their minds than to give them a character creation demo, where they can try stuff out and see for themselved the gorgeous artstyle of the game and the awesome characters they can create? I'm sure that will bring a lot of those negative nancies' back over to the hype side of the fandom!
