"Split your spleen" sounds like a painful alternative to "break a leg" before a performance. It's all about creativity and humor in those pre-show rituals!
I love the idea of a light fixture small enough or a face elastic enough that the fixture actually bounces off said face Edit: this is the most likes I've gotten I think, especially in such a short amount of time
Something doesn't have to be elastic to bounce, in fact a steel ball is more bouncy than a rubber one due to less energy being lost to elastic deformation. Please don't call me a nerd. I'm tired of it.
HOLD A MOMENT!!! DID THEY MAKE A PHANTOM OF THE OPERA REFERENCE?! Light falling...disfigured face....never look the same....lands on the first row of people. 😂Its the chandelier scene.
FUN FACT: The "leg" in "break a leg" is refuring to the part of the stage that the acts use to exit and enter the stage. The saying means to do so well that there are so many encores that the leg of the stage breaks.
Hi actor of 5 years here, I thought is was because of the ghosts(Thespis) that like to do the opposite of what you say so saying break a leg is wishing no harm to befall you.
"Breaking a leg" means crossing from offstage to onstage, crossing the leg curtains. A variety cast would wish to each other "break a leg" meaning "I hope you get picked to go on stage and get paid tonight".
@@marcintarnawski980"Break your neck and legs" (Hals- und Beinbruch) in German, which is likely an appropriation from / pun on the Yiddish phrase "hatsloche un broche" ("success and blessing").
Fun fact: the curtains of a stage are called legs. So break a leg means they hope you make it on stage. Or in an audition context; they hope you get in the cast
Fun fact: Break a leg is not actually wishing someone bad luck. On stage there were these long curtains that reached from the ceiling to the floor at either side of the stage. This pair of curtains were called the legs. Break a leg used to mean "I hope you have a performance so great and flashy that you break part of the stage"
The term “break a leg” is actually good luck before an event During public events like opera or orchestra, the audience would be so happy and pleased with the performance they’d lift and slam their chairs back down, occasionally breaking one of the legs of the chair
I once read a book where everyone thought it bad luck to say good luck, so every time the enslaved children would go raid a deadly sky castle, they would say to one another, "Die bravely."
As a theater nerd I've learned that there are two types of people when it comes to this. Those who will get very descriptive and those who wish terrible health disorders on you.
The “break a leg” phrase originally came from the idea that the person who said that wished you would “end up in a cast” in a tv show, movie, plays dance, etc., cast.
That one guy who takes everything too literally:

"Break a leg" is good luck before an audition. Because when you break your leg, you get put in a cast
Yep
Soo... Break an arm would be plausible too?
@@DarkestSoldier🤣😭😂 possibly
Is that where it comes from?
Not really the origin of the term. This joke came later.

Yep.
“Break a leg big guy” really got me
Said this once to a guy and he literally went and accidentally broke his leg on stage. Shit was wild.
Ouch
I have also watched someone fall off the stage and break a leg during performance 😬
And then everyone clapped…
That is extremely unlucky
Good luck.
if u watched all his clip i d say yes, yes he in fact DID hold back
I could do better

Don't believe that's correct
Hi actor of 5 years here, I thought is was because of the ghosts(Thespis) that like to do the opposite of what you say so saying break a leg is wishing no harm to befall you.
In german we just say breqk your neck and leg, so i don't think that is all too accurate. Or we just ignored the proper meaning if it.
