    Really feels like they're taking the best aspects of Xenoblade 1 (affinity between party members allowing you to customize builds), Xenoblade X (wide-range class selection letting you mix and match a wide variety of stats, arts, and skills), and Xenoblade 2 (intuitive arts layout and auto-attack integration)

      The best thing about X was the amount of customization Augments brought with the slotted gear and skells. 3 doesn't have that nor does it have appendages or even overdrive witht eh complexity overdrive had in X.

      Lol I once had a response to a comment saying ‘everything about Xenoblade 1s combat is bad’ so many people don’t realise how intuitive a lot of XB1s mechanics actually are.

      I'm so glad that monolith soft is coming back strong after Xc2. I know that many people enjoyed the game, but I feel like as they core gameplay, xc2's combat system was very bad and made the game rather unenjoyable. One of my main gripes was being unable to switch characters mid combat and I'm so glad they're changing that.

    Just a reminder, only Healers can revive fallen allies in this game, you are required to have an active Healer on the team as you'll have no way to revive otherwise, so Healers will very much not be useless in this game

    14:55 You can kind of make out Lanz's class hiding behind the class information page so there are more classes, they're just behind the page. I assume Lanz, Sena, Gray, Juniper, and a few others are behind that.

      It covers up three characters per row on that screen so there are at least 23 classes at launch.

    Since we've seen healer classes aren't dedicated healers but general support with both healing and buffs/debuffs they should still be very viable for the buffs/debuffs even if you don't need their healing

    I don't know why, but I absolutely love that each class has individual rankings in attack, defense, healing, and tactics. I find that so delightful. It's a minor presentation change, but I feel like it clarifies how each class is intended to be played in a simple way. One of the biggest problems of Xenoblade 2 (for me) was the lack of guidance and clarity in the menus. Not that the class ranks alone solve that problem, but it indicates that maybe they're going to lay all the information out more clearly this time around.

    Ok but more importantly speedruns will be way more skill expressive, interesting and less stale when resetting over and over with stuff like Ouroboros, quickstepping/dodging and ESPECIALLY BEING ABLE TO SWITCH CHARACTER MID COMBAT. As always the combat is my favourite thing about this series and now it looks like it'll be the best it's ever been.

    wasnt sure how I felt about the entire party being in battle at first (especially with them all shouting voicelines) but being able to switch freely FINALLY should alleviate some of the chaos and bad AI

      @@Gamer-zg2wb it's pretty decent but not quite as good as an actual player. I'm sure everyone has had at least one case where their party members simply won't swap to the blades you want them to use, or when their healer heals too early resulting in their healing art not being ready when you actually need it, or when they use an art for a driver combo just too late resulting in them failing to move it onto the next stage.
      it's not perfect but at least it's predictable if you want the AI to do a specific thing there's generally something you can do to make them do it.
      also Melia's AI in Xenoblade 1 kind of sucked. that's the only one that I'd consider to be truly bad.

      @@Eclipsed_Embers Nah i wouldn't call any of the ai's that decent but its something you have to work with. Swapping in 3 won't matter and the reason i think so is the AI's are always programmed to burn through all their available arts by monolithsoft most of the time and thats why they never heal you when you need it or follow up when they should usually. X ai's were really good though aside from elma not saving TP when you say to build up TP in the tactics menu.

      @@Eclipsed_Embers I mean in my experience the AI is great. If the possibility of a Driver Combo appears, they'll always do it. The only times they don't is when either their Art isn't ready or they can't switch Blades. Same for Blade Combos. If they can't Switch Blades, they won't swap to an element that can end the Combo. The only bad thing is that they sometimes get stuck on one element when you want a different Combo route.

    During the fusion art video clip you can see noah does 2 instances of damage with each fusion art, implying that instead of having the master art's effect be applied to the main art or a combined damage ratio, each of the two arts deal damage sepperately

    14:50 every class is visible on the page, but the popup for the current class is obsuring half of them. You can see Gray, Juniper, and Lanz quite easily, as well as 3 locked characters on the bottom row.

    I find it amusing that it appears that what defines a character's class is their weapon and their jacket. Those are the only aesthetic components of the characters that seem to change.

    15:00 - To provide a correction. Lanz and Sena *are there*. The description of Guardian Commander is *over the Class Display*. You're actually missing a 3-wide 4-tall area for classes.
    You can JUUUUST Barely see Lanz behind the Guardian Commander icon that is semi-transparent behind the word "Guardian".
    It STILL may be Affinity related however (note the locked portrait between two Heroes in the third row).

    For Alexandria's class the japanese version makes it a bit more understandable. There it's said that the more she crits the higher her Attack gets.

    19:27 It looks like you can execute different orders in succession during the same chain attack, the screen shows a log of orders. Maybe in order to get an Ouroboros Order you need to have completed one for each of the pair.
    The completion bonus might apply to the rest of the chain attack. Maybe it gets more and more difficult to fulfill an order (probably by filling up the Tactical Gauge in a limited number of attacks) and that is what stops the chain attacks, up to a maximum of three, since the first order in the chain attack seen earlier drains a third of the chain attack meter.
    The log might also be from previous chain attacks during the same battle and still how you can use an Ouroboros Order.
    I'm also curious to know how the Orders you can choose from are decided, if they are random, it might make Chain Attacks slightly unreliable.

    Swapping chars to have more control over AI stupidity is so nice, glad that Monolith finally added the feature. No more dumb Shulk, Melia, Tora with QT Pie holding the player back
    The class system looks so sick and reminds a bit of FF5. Looking forward to tampering with the classes, especially the gun class. Combine class stuff with fusion arts, Ourobrous forms,etc love the options Monolith gave the player

      No more brain dead never using his healer for staying power or standing in flipping acid until he dies. Also brillant cus to smart AI basically is a built in non adjustable easy mode yet totally brain dead ai just leads to question every loss in the game. With character swapping, our f ups is inarguably our f ups.

      It gave it a feel and DNA of how FF games used to be, where you controlled your whole party. With VIIR, it maintains that, as you are incentivized and encouraged to swap people.
      I loved swapping around, using abilities and building atb and hopping back to Cloud, or Tifa or whatever. It was super fun.
      To each their own, though 🙂

      @@BigCowProductions Classic FF had nothing about swapping in it as you had set classes you chose on the field. They changed up the formula in different games, but you are talking more of a true turn-based system that no longer applies to FF games now nor Xenoblade. I would think the remasters of classic FF made this apparent.

      @@blumiu2426 You missed the point of my statement entirely, either through lack of contextual understanding, or on purpose so you can try and 'ummm, ahkchewuhlee' someone.
      I have played FF since on the SNES, and have played almost every single game. It is painfully obvious you didn't 'switch' in those games. That was the whole point of what I was saying!
      In old FF, Command Based, or Turnbased, you controlled your whole party and were able to change the minutae of battle. That's the hallmark of a Command Based battle system, being able to control your whole party and strategise.
      Dexterity-based action battle systems test your hand-eye coordination and mastery of the combat systems in place, and lend more towards single-character play with AI teammates. Getting that feeling of controlling your whole team is lost on these games.
      This is why VII Remake was so great. It allowed the easy swapping of party members, effortlessly, where it achieved a similar function of controlling your whole team and affecting the battle through the AI not being great, and the ATB bar charging much better when you control it. Also, very easy to hit R1 or L1 to bring up the ability command menu for your team at any time.
      All this, while still having Dexterity-based action combat as well.
      I hope this clears up any confusion.

    One thing that I find super intriguing is that if any character can have any class, then we will 100% avoid the frustration of "I love this character, but they aren't very good so I don't want to play as them" that shows up throughout the rest of the series. Even if a character has a terrible, awful, horrifically bad base class...you can just swap them to a better one. Unless they're a hero, but oh well.

    If you noticed each village has its own flame clock on the right. This could mean that our actions in game could prolong or destroy villages. Maybe helping a certain side when you see them fighting could have a effect on the clocks

    Great video, but you missed a few details that I think you and others may like to know. First, it seems like on the class selection screen, there are Chibi character portraits under the UI element on the right half of the screen. For example, look at how some of the bottom characters have lock icons, then notice that under the UI element on the right half of the screen you can see some of those icons. It's really tough to see, but it's definitely there. You can also make out Chibi portraits for Lanz, Gray (I think), and the archer class. One of the things that further solidifies this is that at the bottom of the screen there is an option to hide the class description that covers the right half of the UI.
    Another element that very few people are talking about is that on the hero selection and class selection screens at the top right there is a sorting feature. On both screens characters are sorted chronologically, does this imply when they may join the party? One last thing, on the class selection screen, you see nopon coins are next to the sorting element at the top right, does this mean the nopon coins can be used to somehow speedup class progression? At the bottom of the screen, you see an option labeled "Use Nopon Coins." Those same coins seem to be used in the cooking feature to supplement ingredients for cooking. It seems like the nopon coins are going to be used to speed up some of the more tedious elements of the game, which makes me wonder how they'll be earned, challenge mode maybe?

      Maybe unique monsters and bosses drop the coins. Just to prevent people from super scaling classes early easily they could have it where it increases the coin requirements either based on the level of the class or the number of times coins were used on it. They could also make the coins not a guaranteed drop in rematch fights of elites dropping it to like 10-15% maybe lower to discourage players from doing that.

    I've took a look on some screenshots of tactics menu we had before, and it does seem that buttons are toggleable. So, if you enabled characters to follow specific tactic, button will be in enabled state, and if not - those will be disabled. In the segment of video, it does seem that AI is free to pick targets at will, and will not wait for fusion arts, but will use any available combo. In old Japanese screenshot, all buttons aside of bottom one were active, meaning, they will use only fusion arts, use any combo, and attack same enemy as leader.

    Also Eunie also uses Duel fans to use burst.
    I was just thinking maybe the mysterious character could be Mikil for 2 reasons the color is a similar color to that blurred character and Eunie using Duel Fans when she uses burst.

    The other classes are under the information panel. ZR is Display Class Info and if it weren't displaying that it would be showing all of the classes. You can see Lanz somewhat clearly to the left of the class title, Gray near the left of the description text, and Juniper to the right of the description text.

    I'm so excited at the idea of making whacky healer builds with cool master arts and fusion arts to bring Uber support to the team. Like you could have your healer doing break topple launch on their own while healing with fusion arts for instance, the possibilities are endless.

    something interesting is, that if you look at master arts from the Classes and Compare it to other Clips, it seems, that the last Master art, at Rank 20 is Always the talent art of that class, so that means, we can also Customize that

    Tbh I’m really looking forward for the class change system. Like I can (and most likely will) Give Lanz guns, cuz the idea of gunslinging Lanz is cool to me. And maybe if class changes work like fire emblem, Lanz base defence might mitigate the underwhelming stat modifiers coming from full metal jaguar, cuz the gunslinger class feels like it will be the coolest looking class, but overall meh and not viable compared to others (since it kinda wants to stick around a lot, but usually you want to take down bosses as quick as possible) so it might fall short. I’ll still give Lanz guns as I imagine full metal jaguar either being a mid game, or side quest unlock.

    The classes thing is the biggest feature to me. I’ve always wanted to change the class of the other characters to something that is the most fun

    Since it's 6 party members, probably monster are gonna hit pretty hard tanks as well, which is why I think healers might be very important!
    It's going to be fun finding it out regardless, I'm so happy to hear all this good stuff confirmed! Can't wait to get my hands on the game!

    You say when talking about the class select screen that it's probably affinity based (and I'm pretty sure it will) because Lanz and Sena's icon aren't on the screen - but their icons are actually on the screen hidden by the menu on the right. You can also see Juniper's and mister edgy dual gun's there.

    Something I wanted to mention regarding character swapping - In the demonstration, I noticed that when the player swapped from Mio to Eunie, Eunie had all her arts + talent art ready, but the arts got reset except for one and the talent gauge was reduced a little. If you go frame by frame, you can see the gauge spin down. I think this means that you will be able to pick one art to be available when swapping in the skill tree (or maybe multiple). But other arts get reset, and you'll need to do a bit of work on the talent gauge. I'm still not certain if AI arts usage matters, or if they're all "available" by default when you switch. Perhaps arts are automatically refreshed but talent gauge isn't since I don't think the AI uses talent arts (could be wrong there, though).

    As for the weapons for Fiona and the nameless. On the screen at 14:30 you can see small icons of their weapons. Fionas looks like a trident a nameless like a double spear.

    I'm glad that the Ouroboros forms don't seem to fall into the same pitfalls that Skells did. Having their own skill trees should help them keep up when we inevitably crank our damage through the roof at endgame. I'm just curious how accessories and gems will apply to them.

      Considering every character essentially has their own Ouroborus form, I assume the accessories of the character in control are what affects the form

    at 14:53 you mention that lanz and sena's classes arent available to noah yet, but if you look behind the UI to the right, youll notice that lanz and sena are located there, along with seemingly juniper, grey, and a bunch more silhouettes with lock symbols on them.

    One of my favorite Blade/Driver combos in 2 was Elma on Nia because I loved the Break/Evasion art. Knowing that I could break without risking interruption from getting broken, toppled, blowdown, etc. was such huge safety net. And now I can put that same art on everyone! This game is gonna be wild, I literally cannot wait.

    Uh to the right of the Guardian Commander Class on the Class Selection menu I noticed that it's a class with a character I don't think we've been shown yet, looks like a healer with some kind of pole weapon. And they are actually showing us the Character's Faction along with the Weapon Sprite(I just love the attention to detail)

    14:50 if you turn up the brightness all the way there are other classes behind the menu with all the stats and stuff on it, so it looks like every party member can use any class as long as you have the hero unlocked

And whats up with these ouroboros arts?? Topple all? Pierce/launch combo? I wonder if we can fuse their arts. Right now a month feels like forever...

    I've been a bit bummed that the Heroes themselves don't look to be playable, but then again taking their classes and weapons is the next best thing, I suppose. Stoked to see the rest of the classes and heroes in the full game.

    I couldn't help but notice that while you and Luxin mention being concerned about Keves art recharge, you neglect to mention the fact that stutter-stepping is gone, and there's no indication that art recharge pouch items are returning. Based on this, I think both nations' arts recharge will be more balanced than it seems. One of the Sena clips shows no stutter-stepping, and the rate of recharge seemed to be a little slower than I'm accustomed to. Plus, we need to keep in mind that Keves arts currently on cooldown continue to recharge while arts are being used, where as Agnus arts just stop in their tracks until you begin auto-attacking again.
    I don't mean to imply you're bashing Xenoblade 1 or anything like that, I just think you're both overlooking the lack of stutter-stepping and sufficient pouch items. I honestly believe both types of arts will be about even (minus Mio's class), and I'm eager to see how this all plays out.

      I agree with this point, but I hate that I do. I don't see it as "Cooldown arts will still be viable" but more along the lines of "Charge arts have been made slower to bring them in line with cooldown arts". It makes the game more balanced, which is pretty good, but it makes charge arts less fun and tactical to use, which is super bad.

      @@masterplusmargarita I don't think there was any thinking involved with 2 auto attack cancel and art spam. This solution probably won't be great either given how much more important moving around is seeming so Agnus classes might be worse than Keves because of the hard nerfs with the removal of pouch items and auto attack canceling.

      I personally feel that 1 has the strongest auto-attacks in the series and that art rotation is significantly stronger in 1 and X (overdrive) when compared to 2 and Torna (although I’m more experienced with the combat in the former games). Auto-attacks feel 5-10 times faster in 1 than every other game in the series thanks to double attack, haste, and certain auras (and could be used while moving). Combined with high critical rates meant that the party gauge would max out in seconds, providing near constant access to chain attacks where art cooldown is a non-factor (multi-hit arts were also very useful for this). Even ignoring that, it meant that arts weren’t your sole source of damage and so arts could be used more sparingly if you so desired.
      Then there’s art rotation. Although X bypassed cooldowns with overdrive, even XC1 rarely had moments where I’d be forced to wait an extended period of time for an art to recharge. Arts recharging passively rather than from auto-attacks meant that it was possible to time arts such that you could cycle between them. Sure, you couldn’t spam an art over and over (usually), but you didn’t have to because you had immediate access to all of your arts rather than a portion of them. All the games have very abusable methods to circumvent longer downtimes, but only XC1’s combat doesn’t depend on them.

    The only issue i've seen with party member swapping is it only gives you the option to swap to adjacent members in the party list. It also seems, due to the pair merging into the robot forms, the list order cannot be changed. So it seems like if you want to go from Eunie to Sena (to / from any party members 3 positions apart in the list), it's gonna be ZL, R, ZL, R, ZL, R (or Ls) which may be too slow to take advantage of driver combos

    I’ve been watching previous gameplays clips and looking back in the direct and I’ve noticed and Keves can only break topple and daze while Agnus is only able to launch and smash. So despite both sides having different cooldowns Keves classes and Agnus classes must be used both in combat in order to access the combo.

    14:59 - I only just realized that the UI box displaying info about the classes is slightly opaque, and it’s hiding Sena and Lanz’ icons, but that also means there’s another 7 different classes that aren’t shown due to obstruction!

    I think pacing of tutorial will be very important given the complexity of the battle system. For many of us here with experience with previous xc games, it will be easier, however it might not be so for someone totally new to the series (and for some reason started with xc3 1st). We have to remember that a big part of the gripe against xc2 for people who didnt like the game was the complexity of the battle system and lack of early and comprehensive tutorial to guide them. I really want the series to become a mainline rpg series on par with the likes of persona in popularity and im hoping that the game will guide players properly and timely this time on the battle system. I actually felt sad with xc2 how some of my friends gave up on the game because they feel lost with the battle system knowing that they are missing out on a great game with a great story. Hoping for the best for my favorite switch rpg series.
