Actually an excellent idea Sue, if any of us won't be using our paints for an extended period for any reason, including like when we use to go on holidays. Removing the paint from the caps will help to keep the air out of the bottles which dries out our paints. Manufacturers don't say anything about it because they want to sell more supplies, not have us save ourselves money by doing something so simple but time consuming. So it is a really great video, if everyone thinks about it logically.
I thought this would just be something silly for folks lol. I was cleaning them up and thought hmmm wonder if anyone would comment or watch. :) I actually enjoy cleaning them up and my palettes I always leave a few days to pick the paint off. My husband just laughed at me said Sue I ain't watching this lol.
Hi Sue-this was kinda fun to watch! 😜 Seems like Deco Art is your go to paint! What are your thoughts on Folk Art acrylics? So when you do a big project how do you keep your paints from drying out? Do you have small containers with lids? Have a good day! 🥰
DecoArt is my go to paint because if cost and consistency. I would go to golden or Liquitex or similar if my budget was greater lol. But that would be for plumper dots and greater opacity and vibrancy. I use directly from bottles and just put tiny bits on my palette at a time. I do own a sta-wet palette if I want to keep the paint useable longer but I have so many colors I don’t mix often to have that issue.
I hear you when it comes to cost! Wow! I priced Golden and it is expensive! I’m probably to slow and that is why my paints dry out! 😳😜 Not giving up yet! 🥰
Oh my gosh! Yes! I also lament over the palette leftovers after the paint dries, especially the ones that peel off in a round disc of pretty color. I always think that I can find a creative use for those. I haven't found one yet but I was thinking about maybe a blob painting of sorts gluing them on a canvass. :)
When I was at a meeting at the art guild a few years ago there was a representative from Golden paints demonstrating and she was talking about mixed media and making paint films? Something like that but some folks purposely spill out paint, let it dry and then peel and use the paint in art projects that way. But she didn’t show examples of completed projects I still wonder lol
New subscriber. Love your Dotty makes. These are basically hard bits of plastic, so you could blitz them in a Coffee grinder, & use them as Multicoloured sprinkles, like vermicelli on crafts, you'd need glue though, I'm thinking Earrings. Sorry that was a long first comment. 🤗 Thank you for sharing. Take care & stay safe too. 😷❤🙂🐶
I definitely need to make a concerted effort TO do this. Oye...I have bottles explode out the hole when I open them. I feel like I have to shake them before using but I get that burst. Thanks for posting this...Ill spend some of my zen-dotting time cleaning bottles today :-)
Pauline, try gently tapping the bottom of your bottle on the table after you shake the paint. It usually works, so I don't get the paint "explosion". Such a waste of paint especially now when it's getting harder and harder to find it!
I always shake too mainly because I have so many colors and a lot sit a long time between uses then come out oily. I pull them shake them then let it sit while I get everything ready to start painting.
My habit is just to dot from the cap. I don't like pouring it into a palette and wasting it. Sometimes it gets dried up and gunky so I do have to clean up the cap and swirl a qtip just inside the bottle to get the thick stuff out. Maybe it's the same amount wasted though. 🤷♀️
I have the whole DecoArt Americana line, most of their metallic's and glitter paints, and then various other brands some Golden, Apple Barrel, Artists Loft, Folk Art, Liquitex, couple other brands I'm not thinking of off hand. I store my DecoArt on the wall in nail polish racks. I"ll post a picture on the community page in a minute have to take one. As far as cleaning goes I try to do it every few weeks but this time was almost a month. It just really helps if you get a tight seal on your bottles for them to last longer.
yes if you've had them a while you really need to take the caps off and check for clumps in the bottle. When the paint gets lower it will tend to dry out especially along the sides of the bottle, in the cap and then I usually have some chucks of dried paint in the loose paint as well that need to be picked out. If you don't do this when you go to squeeze some out it will be clogged and if you squeeze to hard you'll have a mess.
There's three things that bothers me about this video your only cleaning the caps. the inside of the bottle could be dried up to. the stub on the cap that allows the cap to close has a hole so paint could get in there to so you should clean that out to.
I did both sides of the inner cap, on another day I take lids completely off and clean in there and take a long skewer and skim the paint for chucks that form as it’s drying out. This video was posted as a joke really as most folks know to clean their bottles.
Yes of course I do.. do that occasionally as well. After time all paints will have some dried out parts especially when the bottle is close to empty. I just take a long skewer and fish those out.
@@ashlanboykin7560 I can not right now as I just cleaned them all last week. Was driving me nuts every time I went to squirt some paint they were clogged. So took the time to fish out all the lumps out of over 300 bottles. Didn’t know that anyone would want to see it sorry. Will film next time I find lumps but will be a while.
I have a whole plateful of little paint boogers. Not sure WHY I feel I need to keep them, but I do. What are we supposed to do with them? There has to be SOMETHING we can use them for, no? 😂😂😂
I realize no need, but believe it or not there are folks out there that like watching this type of content. I myself being one of them its relaxing to me. No worries though this was just a random one time video. :)
Very relaxing to watch lol made me go and look at my paints to see if they needed cleaning up 💜💜💜
I watched it a few times, but I’m kinda strange at times lol. I even watch paint dry 🙄

i love picking off these bits. i find it amazingly relaxing to do and watch :D
Same
I’m here after the farewell video. I wanted to say that, I don’t know sue but I wish her best in heaven.
Thoroughly enjoyed this! I also do this, and I love cleaning out my plastic pallette plates.
Can you do a vid about it
Haha! That could be an all day job for you! I do the same thing with the dried up paint in my paint palettes!

This is so peaceful to watch a bedtime! I like peeling the paint out of the paint trays, too.
Strangely entertaining
I could watch this forever
The fact that it comes off perfectly

Folk art are great too but usually have to fix the consistency. I do have them and apple barrel, some golden etc just not as much as the DecoArt
I hear you when it comes to cost! Wow! I priced Golden and it is expensive! I’m probably to slow and that is why my paints dry out! 😳😜 Not giving up yet! 🥰
I do this all the time, love picking it off, saves time the next time I paint....

Hi there and welcome to my channel! Thanks for commenting I absolutely love your idea. :) Always nice to have nothing go to waste, if you can. :)

This is super satisfying
Lol you got me.....I do and then throw the paint away and I thought you had a trick to reuse the paint.

I'm more than a little OCD and have to clean them as I use them, enjoyed watching you do yours. 😊
that's not OCD, Karen

How often do you do this and how many colors do you have? I would also love to see how you store your paints!

can you open the cap
yes I do, do that occasionally too remove the cap because paint builds up there as well. But this video I didnt.
Here is a tip check inside the Paint to see if there is a thin layer or like a thick layer with tweezers toothpick anything
SOOOOOOAH SATISFIYING
I was taught to Clean as you are doing then turn them upside down to keep them from drying out, too....👍🏻...😻

I do this with glue sticks at school XD just to point out you can tell how much he uses each colour
Can you clean inside the bottles? Get out all the stringy parts in your paint
Yes of course I do.. do that occasionally as well. After time all paints will have some dried out parts especially when the bottle is close to empty. I just take a long skewer and fish those out.

I like how she do that
I do this sometimes
I clean my paints out once every week
I have way to many to clean them once a week I wouldn't be able to do anything else. Just cleaning my decoart paints took me two full days.
