I've agreed with Ray on this oneformy whole life. In fact it's how I was raised also. I've enjoyed teaching assholes how not to behave in public for years and years now! Those consequences are what keep people holding doors open for strangers with their hands full, they prevent people from cutting granny in line at the supermarket or fast food restaurant. That low level yet very real threat of violence is what keeps people behaving around others out in public. It was a much greater risk acting like a prick years well decades ago and as each year passes us by that becomes less and less a risk one takes behaving poorly among others which is sad but it's definitely the case by. Let's all do our parts to keep strangers acting courteously in public among other people!
Two great motivators in life - fear and love. We have barely started to understand the motivation of love, but we haave definitely understood the motivation of fear. Fear of our freedom taken away, our lives, our food, our families, our house. Primitive societies are based on this type of motivation - the fear of punishment as a motivator rather than the love for duty. There is limits to that thinking and way of life. History is full of examples and resulted in many civilisations going extinct. Eventually, running a society on fear as a motivator does lead to tyrants, authoritarians, dictators, and revolutions. For the natural state of humans is fear, and creating a society on top of that will only result triggering the worst sides of humanity....
He’s right, once society focused more on finding reasons and excuses on why people acted the way they did instead of handing out consequences for behavior that was deemed less than socially acceptable you have the world we now live in.
I need to watch this series. In the regular society, people are allowed to break the system if they know how and have the guts to do so. (Especially if they have money).

Couldn't of picked a better actor to play Ray.. his demeanor, that sinister smile, and his calmness is scary, however you warm to him because of his softer side towards his daughter and his vigilante protection. Brilliant actor.
Giving rational, non emotional answers to a person grilling him, about teaching people to be respectful. The “anger management “ dude ends it by insulting him- proving the assassin’s point- being polite and reasonable only gets you so far.
Best series I have ever watched. Even 2 weeks after watching the whole series I still think about it and have a connection to it.
Dude is absolutely right.
No consequences has lead to this BS.
The next time those punks leave you alone, hear me saying " you're bloody welcome."
And then what?😂😂😂
he's so on point with his thinking we need more clarity like that
Ray was close to bashing the therapist then
If we do this.there’ll be no one to heal Ray😊
Yeah I caught that too.
Don't think so. He was irritated and didn't like him. But contrary to popular beliefs I would not say ray is your typical hothead who picks fights with weak opponents. He loves humbling arrogant assholes who think they're warriors tho.
@@MLFv2 He was just done explaining to him what happens in jail when you _disrespect_ others.
The next thing he does is _disrespecting_ Ray by ridiculing what he said, making the others laugh about him.
Not a smart move, if you ask me.
In jail, that guy would get a smack right there.
Would have just proved the therapist right
Oh lawd! Ngl, I just love Ray! He is sooo genuine, and his logic in this case is kinda hard to argue with.
I can't stand therapists like that. Ray is right. Some people only speak one language and if you let them disresect you they'll just keep doing it.
His logic is compelling!
Tell him "you're welcome" 😂
Straight up😂😂
Thank you Ray😊 providing a community service is part B) of personal responsibility

It's absolutely true to many people are totally out of touch with the fact that sometimes you mess with the wrong person and you will get hurt and not just by hurty words there are consequences to actions. 👍🐺🏴🏴

The thing is, he is spot on. Lack of consequences is what lets people think they can do whatever they want. The arrogance of the therapist that lets him think he can speak for all of society might just be something he will feel the consequences of later...
Ray only hurts people if they threaten him or for money.
He NEVER would have hit his girlfriends brother.
But he’s also a killer who will take out his own friends if the money is right (Pres of the biker gang) so despite me agreeing with his sentiments I don’t see the character as a good guy but he mostly has an antihero status.
@samuelwoods164 Agreed. He's a maniac killer... but he's consistent vs lashing out in random rage.
And Ray is correct. If respect alone is not enough, fear needs to be instilled, and that for every action, there's a reaction, be it a good or bad one, pending on the action.
Rays face said it all in the scence after the councilers remark. His face said lucky you're a govt appointed councilor, else I'd be getting up and putting you in coma.
Mr im between is a great show. The actor who plays ray is also the writer. What talents. Sad theres no new seasons but Ray knew how to end a series strong
The worst part is the people like the therapist are the ones running the world telling us ti be kind to EVERYONE when we need more people who actually stand up to a**holes and bullies.
They only say that shit until actually close enough to the violence to disable their objectivity. A TRUE pacifist is more rare than a lot of pacifists want to admit. If that guy had to rely on Ray to prevent him bein graped, he would beg Ray to do violins on his behalf
He didn't tell him to be kind, just not to assault people. There IS a middle ground
@@jonastrach8851Did u watch the show? The bullies initiated the whole thing.
I agree with Ray. Mike Tyson said something similar about how the internet has helped people to forget that being disrespectful can get you punched in the face.
That's probably why prisons are such quiet places of tranquility and peace
Ever been to prison? Or jail?
@@Plebeypleb I was being sarcastic.
Imagine how bad they'd be if there wasn't even a general rule of respect among some cons.
The nature of prison is that it's populated by people that just can't get along, for the most part i think. There's obviously no shortage of people that shouldn't even be there, but mostly it's people that just can't follow the basic guidelines to get along with others. So in a place like that, there really must be consequences.
@@paulverse4587 I'm aware, but my personal experience was as long as everyone respects everyone else, jail can be pretty peaceful. Obviously there are major exceptions to that.

....or was it, really?
Yes, he meant it in jest, but he's also making Ray's point.
He's right, he SHOULD BE thanking him, sincerely.
Because if he said it that way, in jail....
Thanks for explaining we are not capable to figure this out ourselves.

Probably one of the greatest TV series I've seen in a decade.
I grew up in the 60s. Violence, and dealing with violence, was kinda part of growing up. Modern society doesn’t deal with violence, the judiciary doesn’t deal with violence, and violence is escalating in many parts of the world. Some people will never respond to anything except the violent punishment of violence.
"Sometimes all it takes for reasonable people to become monsters is when evil people get away with being evil."
Yeah it's becoming a bigger problem with the newest generation of teenagers, they've grown up becoming complacent with hostility online and bring that attitude to the real world.
Shootings are on the rise directly because of the rampant apathy on-top cowards kowtowing to malice because they fear being singled out.
If anyone argues against this, we'll be certain theyre just S&M enablers.
Violence doesn't solve violence.
@@adrianopandolfo apathy is death
Couldn't agree more!!! He's speaking the truth.
I know this is a show. However, he is 100% right. If you've ever been locked up and you disrespect someone in the least little manner, it can be a deadly consequence depending on the who and what. I did 11 yrs in prison, and I learned so much about myself and those around me.
@@justinbelcher3679 yes, because we'd all like to have prison culture become mainstream. The general concept of respect for the dignity of others is perhaps the only thing prison should export.
With him 100%. Accountability is most important.
I got slippered and caned at school and it probably made me a better person understanding that there are consequences to your actions.
Depends. Were you beaten because of something you did, or because of how the one bearing you felt?

Straight facts, people have forgotten what consequence looks like. Bring Back the Biff.
Being a sarcastic ass in front of a guy who's there cuz he beat up an asshole is not smart.
thought he was gonna get bitc h slapped
The Little Ray gives him when he decides to tell Ray that society should thank him speaks volumes as toward what would happen to this man every ever found him on the street
I've never watched this show, only seen clips, but based on those clips I bet Ray is going to hit that guy later on
If he did I think he’d lose his kid Idt he hits that guy. Guy prob just realizes he’s a worthless pos probs or sum

Gotta respect a man that fights back
This is absolute truth. This is the difference from the 80’s to now.
Over 7000 languages in the world, and this man decided to speak FACTS
Ray is absolutely right, people must learn that there are consequences for they're behavior just like raising children.
When he gets a particular smile on his face you turned on the switch
that's why parents are important so you can learn respect control consequences etc etc
A lot of people don't need force to make them behave respectfully, but some truly only respond to force.
Genuinely the best tv show I’ve watched in a long time
I need to watch this series. In the regular society, people are allowed to break the system if they know how and have the guts to do so. (Especially if they have money).
Scott Ryan is just brilliant as this character, the smallest expressions he makes are extremely true
Thats the exact consequence that the therapist pushed at the end of that convo to test the water
"Social media made y'all way too comfortable with disrespecting people and not getting punched in the face for it." - Mike Tyson

Love the clearly anxious laughter.
It was always funny to me how the therapist just heard about consequences of being an asshole, then proceeds to be an asshole. As if he won't get punched in the face lol. Love this show.
Therapist is the ultimate passive aggressive, especially when one considers his role here😂
Ray flat out tells the therapist that people can die for disrespecting someone and immediately disrespects Ray.
When I finally read Starship Troopers, I came to respect corporal punishment as a deterrent.
Pain is real. Pain is now.
Jail just ruins people's lives.

He's correct. Of there are consequences then there's gonna be way less fighting.
Ray is talking straight facts in this scene
