Thank you, I'm excited to have little seedlings started for my 2024 garden. Didn't know how much they would produce more plants as time goes on. Can't wait to fill in spaces and grow an abundance.
I’ve tried growing them here in South Carolina for 3 times. I grew them from seeds all germinated but none made it. I’m going to try something different. I’m not giving up. I want artichokes in my garden. I agree they’re beautiful plants
Artichokes were a struggle to get started in the South Plains of Texas where I am. Thanks to you Dan I finally have three making it through this winter. One entered it's grand majestic stage last year. Such awesome plants!
I have been cooking artichokes since I was 11 using a pressure cooker. I live up north and never tried these. But I am south now. My favorite veggies and I am starting them today inside. Thanks to your video I feel more confident. I can put them in y greenhouse since I want a lot.' I have been following you for some time now. Thank you. I have my Greenhouse heating up in my 5 gal pot. Thanks
Ty for your help. We're from Otorohanga, NZ, and I was absolutely stoked that my 6 seeds are now 2yrs old....we're making a food forest and now we know how to divide and transplant our artichokes. Late bloomers to the self-sufficiency lifestyle, but glad for videos like this. Cheers
Thanks for the info. I just planted an artichoke in my yard last year from seed. She is growing but I didn't get any artichokes off if it. I'm hoping this year! I love how you propagate and have so many plants! We love artichokes so I would love to have the abundance of them like you have in your garden. Nice job.
Lovely! Can oregano be planted at base of any tree/shrub? Can it be planted in walkway where people sometimes walk on? Thank you for the abundance of inspiration! You are an abundance of ideas! Blessings!
My first-year Green Globe Artichokes I started from seed last Spring are almost all still alive out back. They were planted in full sun here in coastal North Carolina. It was a hot summer last year. This Winter was mild and they are growing quite a bit during the Winter months actually. The hard freezes around 20F would knock them back a little but they perked right back up. I started more from seed a few weeks ago and plan to spread the ones I already have at some point too. I like them! I may start planting them a few feet away from my fruit trees to suppress the grass/create more production. However, the best thing I have found for that so far is.... grass believe it or not. I use my bagger and dump the grass clippings at the base. Afterwards I come back with a rake and spread it thin around the base. When the clippings mold... they kill the grass and mulch/fertilize too at the same time. Grass fed fruit is a good thing and real!
Great tip... just looked at my 1.5 year olds and indeed found they have new ones popping up. Moved one... will move the others I can find as well (I think their 3-4 more). Super tip... Did not think about the chop and drop. At what time would you recommend NOT chopping? I assume no chop ‘n drop when the main center is growing ...
Great video! I live in Southern California, my area has native clay soil. I just bought a cluster of 3 artichoke plant. Can I grow some in a 1/2 wine barrel and in ground? What can I add to my soil for in ground and can I use cactus soil for the wine barrel? Do I need to fertilize? Thank you for any help and info you can provide.
I live in zone 5, Northeast Oregon. Bought 2 seedlings from nursery and planted them. Harvested 2 artichokes yesterday, more to come. Wondering if it will come back next year after a snowy winter or if I should dig them up in the fall and pot them in the house?
I've bought my seeds from Botanical Interest, and they've done very well. Have you ever had an artichoke harvest? We love to eat them, but we haven't had any flowers yet. Happy Growing
I get a lot of ants on my artichoke. What to do about this. Thanks for teaching me about when to harvest & I'm going to add another artichoke plant from my first. I'll also let it flower too. Excellent
I've always had green globe. But last year I got what I believe were red globe. Dang, they have some nasty thorns on them. I need some long cuff gloves like you have
How old does the plant need to be to start producing artichokes? I planted mine from seed a year and a half ago, they were huge and beautiful all summer but no flowers.
I bought one Global artichoke plant a few weeks ago and an insect ate the center of my plant. Maybe I got lucky and have 5 little buds coming at the base of the plant. Do I leave them grow until fall and replant. Zone 7 Texas.
I have had mine in a huge rubber container from the farm feed store that I drilled holes in the bottom. I planted 1 and have dug up the pups and gave away. I didn’t know they had vitamin C or about using the chop and drop method. I was throwing the wilted leaves in yard waste when I cleaned up around the plants. This was a good video that I learned a few things…also going to transplant some around my apple tree.
Also you can start a pup in a 1 or 3 gallon container and transplant when it starts to outgrow the container. I’ve also have used Folgers coffee containers that I put holes in the bottom.
Happy to subscribe to your channel now. I just left a comment on your fig cutting video. Do you have any updates on those that you took in December? Any signs of growth yet?

Grow them in a gallon pot and transplant when a foot tall, works for me.

Wow! Love your garden. It will be my first year try to grow artichoke plants from seeds. I have already started the seeds. Thank you for your video.
Awww, the chickens under the orange tree! So cute!
Greetings from Germany.
Nice video about Artichokes.
They seem to be very robust.
Next year I'm going to plant some of them too.
I am growing artichoke this year. It is my first time. Thanks for making this video

Feed them egg shells
I would love to get seeds or plants. Where did you purchase them please

Thank you for the video, it helped me with my first try with an artichoke plant.
I'm doing artichokes for the first time from seed this year, do you happen to know how well they grow interplanted with sunflower's as partners?

Thanks man. I've got two packs of seeds I want to get going this spring.
How do they do in hyper aridclimate's, that typically have very strong drying winds and single-digit humidity is common?
Dan what’s the difference between a cardoon and a artichoke?

How do you fertilize (npk?) and how often?
Can I grow them in Kentucky zone 7!!! Any advise? I love ❤️ your videos!! Thank you!!!
Is this a good time to start artichoke seeds indoors???. Thanks Dan. Asked you about this last year. God bless you and the wife buddy !!!🤗
Not growing anything around here in zone 3. I've had no luck growing artichokes from seed and right now all I've got growing is ice and snow.
Thank you

2 years
Wow your artichoke plants look beautiful, the leaves look almost silvery! What variety of artichoke are they?
They are the "Globe" variety. Cheers!
Thank you!!!
Do you cut it down in the fall ?
Anyone know if they will grow in North Florida? Thanks.
Gotta go split my plant up!

Do artichokes grow well in giant containers?
Yes...a big pot.
