For difficult threading I'm using the three-step cutters - those with one, two and no ring (endcutter) on the shaft.

cool!!! thanks only thingleft to do is hand scrape it to perfection! ya custom made bxa holders youll find how handy they are to hold work pieces as well as tools. trust me its a big time saver sometimes bxa on the mill???

That looks like a CMT chip, which I believe is supposed to have a 5 degree negative rake angle so there should have been a 5 degree offset when milling the shelf.

Looks like you're using some carbon steel taps, I've been screwed so many times with bad quality taps, that now I'll try to use only HSS high quality taps, believe me you'll be glad you paid the difference... ;)
When using this tool it's like inside boring, and, the insert can even be set up to a few thousand above center, but definitely not below center line...
Your tool seems to work just right... ;)

+pierre beaudry These small taps I have are from a very cheap set sold at harbor freight, and the small one do break at the worst times...thanks

    Bonjour,

    Turned out very nice!
Do you remember what's the clearance between the carbide cutting edges and the tool edges, after you took the diameter down?
Have you tried faster/slower RPMs on steel?

with the rounded tips of the insert youre using youre not getting a sharp enough inside corner

Hello Brian, Would it be a more secure arrangement to mill a flat on the dovetail cutter and run it in an end mill holder rather than a collet? Also it looks as if the insert is not at all proud of the bottom horizontal face of the holder? Is that just camera distortion or is it designed that way? Is the cutting tip angled down like a fly cutter? Great video. Always like seeing what similar machines will do. Thanks. Doug

Agreed. I am surprised it cut at all if there's no relief on the bottom.

Time to invest in a new drill chuck. It's running out at least .020

I thought that tiny tap was gonna break, the harbor freight tap woulda broke off after about 3 threads in steel...I only use those in aluminum...and even thats iffy :) Nice job

+Randy Richard Well I followed your design and I was quite surprised at how well it works, now to make some BXA size tool holders with it.
