Green is NEGATIVE and Brown is POSITIVE. It was brought to my attention that while talking in the video about the fuel pump I mention the Brown as negative and green as positive. I mentioned them backwards. My apologies. The tests are correct as my bike is running but I mixed the two positive and negative up while talking.
It turned out to be a relay 🤦🏻♂️ embarrassing lol but thank you for all the insight and knowledge. I have an 06 and was so upset with myself for a while not being able to figure out and you showing us step by step. Thank you 🙏🏼
Hey don’t be embarrassed. Embarrassing would be wondering why it won’t start with no fuel lol. I’m happy you got it sorted out. Enjoy the ride and have fun.
Thanks for taking the time to post this, using your techniques I managed to get a friends salvage bike running. As it turns out the block is cracked but I've also learned a bit on the way
I know this is an old video but thank you for uploading this in such detail. I followed your steps and was able to trouble shoot my fuel pump issue. I also learned a few tricks for the future. Muchos Gracias!
Thanks heaps man! Really appreciate this video, was so lost with my bike then found out it was the tilt sensor. Don't think I would of tested it without watching this 😅
Great video. Thank you for showing how to use the multimeter. For anyone reading, I went through the steps and my fuel pump wire from the bike does spike up for a second or two and then I tried to jump the pump and nothing happened. So does that mean the pump is shot?
Mission7608x2 if you tried to jump the pump and feed it power directly to get it to turn on then yes I would say it’s a very safe bet your pump is cooked BUT double check the connection on the end maybe it could use some TLC first. Just to eliminate a bad connection from a bad wire that you could actually fix
For all of you guys that have changed the fairings. The angle sensor in the front cowling CAN and WILL go on upside down if you are not careful. Happened to me because it was a bit dark, so i missed the arrow and the "up" sign on the sensor. Just a heads up for all the people with a sudden pump not running after cowling change.
the best vid i’ve watched thankyou cbr600rr i have an issues with my fuel pump not priming i’ve watched your vid and followed it through i have power to fuel pump 7-8v and goes to 9.v after a couple of seconds and stays there it does not spike to prime pump any ideas
Hi i have a 2006 f4i 600 I've had it in storage for 5 years it ran when i put it away i put stabilizer in the fuel, so i empty out the fuel used a different battery to start it my lights turn on but i dont hear the pump turn on, it turns over but no start, like i said it ran perfect when i put it away the thing has 5k
Hey what’s up man thanks for the post again definitely helped diagnose but I connected the alligator clips to the wire from the harness and it showed a spike in voltage meaning they work right? Bc i did the same to the cable on the pump and it works too but I connect them together and turn on the bike from the switch and don’t hear it turn on
If you lost the key to you're bike and HISS is stoping you just buy a new ignition and take it apart and replace the old key insert from your old ignition with the new one you bought and put the old ignition with the new key insert back onto the bike and that bypasses the ignition not recognizing the ECU which won't start the EFI
@@TubeSocksMalone I got a 03 CBR 600RR and I had to replace the ignition switch on it because the last key snapped inside and so when I did that the FI error code appeared when I installed the new ignition and kept reading about installing a new ignition people kept running into the problem with the ECU not recognizing the new ignition switch which stop the fuel injection from priming. Not trying to downplay your video at all because it taught me more than what's posted on TH-cam I'm just explaining what I did when I replaced my ignition and had fuel injection problems.
@@TubeSocksMalone I only said HISS because it stops anything electronical from working which might be something as simple as an ignition switch being changed. And im in MN even if I don't have HISS at least I could reach out to a brother that does or help in anyway.👌
Agreed 🤘 you never know who’s watching. They could have a European bike or North American. Fortunately for 2005/2006 we don’t have that problem so long as my ECU gets 12volts it’s all good. No diode in my model to down play the volts from 12 to 9 for the ECU. I have an aftermarket ignition too but I can cut keys at will too.
Hey Mike thanx for the help but I have a question. I have a 2006 CBR1000RR and my 20amp fuse keeps blowing and my fuel pump wont prime. I unhook my bank angle sensor and turn key and push the start button, it turns over, doesnt start and no fuel prime but doesnt blow the fuse. Turn the bike off, plug in the bank angle sensor and turn key again and it blows the fuse. Is it my Bank Angle Sensor???
I have CBR 2003 and i think i have the same problem like you, when i turn my bike using the key pump doesnt prime but the 20 fuse is OK when i turn my Kill switch to ON position it's blowing the fuse, When i plug out bank angle sensor pump still wont prime but when i put kill switch to ON position it's dosent blow the fuse (my pump is working i take it out from the tank and test it) do you found where can be the problem? or maybe somone else know where to look?
Hey TC, sorry to hear you're having the same problem. I just ordered a new Bank Angle Sensor. Will know more when it comes in. Of course I will update here as well. My guess is it has to be the BAS, otherwise why is it blowing the 20amp fuse. You might want to take your pump out and test it, though. I haven't checked my pump yet, but I will do so afterwards if the new BAS doesn't fix it.
@@vxace5285I take out pump and check it's working good, also i bought BAS sensor ( still doesn't work) and i make BAS bypass also again doesn't work and still blowing fuse.
Hey there I’ve watched your videos many many times I had a power spike to the fuel pump, so I changed the pump but I’m still having the same issue did you do a video on the ignition switch?
One question and I may be able to immediately rule it out. What year is your bike? And also what country are you located. The wire harness and ignition are slightly different between North American models and Europeon. Just so I know exactly what bike
MotoBike Mike the bike is a 2003 and I’m from Ontario Canada, I just started exposing the wires the bike will run with no issue if I supply the power and ground to make the pump run, I did just that relay like your video
Hi, I took off the gas tank yesterday. this morning I had a puddle of gas, which was very sketchy. the gas leak came from the hole where the main gas hose is attached too, and also the smaller hose above breather hose.. Do you know, what this entails?
If it gets power for a split second that is when the fuel pump would normally prime so if it isn’t priming but getting power then hook the fuel pump to the battery for a second and see if it works. I mention that in the video 🤘
What is the voltage on the surge to the pump supposed to be? I am getting 24V and then it goes down to 12 but my fuel pump doesn't prime. I just had it replaced with an OEM pump and had the relay changed out. I'm $1100 and 2 months deep into this issue...need help
On the black plug that actually plugs into the fuel pump like shown around the @4:15 mark it should only spike to like 12V for a blitz of a second then go back to zero to prime. It only has a spike of power to prime and going from 24 volts idk how but then down to 12V and staying their isn’t right. Make sure you followed everything step by step or didn’t skip anything assuming it was fine, test everything in the videos as that’s the full procedure in the service manual. If you skip a test you could end up chasing ghosts. And dont jump around testing stuff do everything in the order I showed. If everything checks out and works or shows correct then it’s your ECM. If you’re unsure then that means you missed a step or tested it incorrectly.
If you have this motorcycle and it’s a 2005-2006 CBR600RR model they’re all the exact same. If it’s not the same year chances are it’s just located in a different spot.

Green is negative 👌. I know everything else is right just what I said is backwards because my bike is running now due to the steps I followed 😂. Again my apologies for mixing the two up.
*help needed* I check all of the fuses everything is fine but when I checked the connector from the front of the bike that connects the odometer and tilt sensor main harness as soon as a touched it with the testerI could hear the fuel pump turn on but when I remove the tester the fuel pump and bike cut off please help
ricustyvon I have the nose of my 600RR off so tomorrow I will go take a quick look and see exactly where your at and I’ll try come up with a few ideas/tests you might be able to do to narrow it down or point more in the right direction. Can’t promise anything but I’ll try figure something out for you. Fingers crossed anyway lol.
See if you can open up the switch. It could just have some build up or corrosion around the connections or a broken solder. It could be as simple as just re soldering or taking electrical cleaner to the connections. Try that. Worst case scenario you’ll have to replace the switch but they’re easy to find and worth peanuts
No problem. Yeah Kill switches are a common problem regardless of bike. It gets weathered from always being exposed to stuff like water, humidity etc and takes a toll over time on it. The downside is how important it is that if it doesn’t work right neither does the bike. Simple fix but is a huge pain in the ass when it fails.
If it didn't turn over while directly hooked up to a power source I would put my money on your fuel pump needing to be replaced unless you power source was faulting.
Peyton Gilbert for what? It’s a possibility depending on model year and also North American model or European. 2003/2004 North American 600RR have diodes. 2005/06 North American do not. And Europe has the stupid HISS system which also uses a diode so have to be slightly more specific.
