Try just starting a page or post and typing /image on its own line.

The [+] image icon does not appear when editing my Word Press files. Typing in /image did not make it appear. This rendered useless, the basic steps described. A Gallery file was set-up for images, but I haven't found a way to xfer any of those images to another Word Press file. I'm certain that I'm missing a step, but your "tutorial" didn't help me to find it.
